Meyer’s Petting Zoo brings smiles to faces of young and old alike

Boyd and Lenore Meyer, along with their son Brady, own and operate Meyer’s Petting Zoo. The Meyers keep the animals at their farm place northwest of Holstein. Some of the animals they raise include llamas, mini-donkeys, billy goats, ponies, sheep, pigs, chickens, a duck, and an emu.

So, do all these animals go along when the petting zoo hits the road?

“We take farm animals,” said Lenore, “like the mini-donkeys, a variety of goats, sheep, a baby calf, and ponies sometimes.”

The Meyers travel all over Iowa and Nebraska, as well as into South Dakota and Minnesota. They take the petting zoo to a radius of about 200 miles from home.

At the Holstein Farmers’ Market on Sept. 12, there will be a supper with a free will donation with all the proceeds going to the Ronald McDonald House (Upper Midwest). Jeff and Brenda Cronin (grandparents of baby Dottie) along with family and friends will be putting this on.
