Clover’s babies will be ready to go to their forever homes in approximately 2 weeks!
These mamas will all be looking for their forever homes after their babies are born and weaned!
Someone is a very naughty girl 😂
Bun bun is off to Rabbit Angels Rabbit Rescue, but not before destroying my favorite foldable playpen. Such is life with rabbits!
You have seen this sweet mama a few times now and I wanted to officially introduce her!
This is Clover 🍀
On August 14th, I sorted through numerous totes and bins of over 100 piggies brought in by animal control. I came across a very weak, very tiny litter of newborns, one baby limp on his side. They were in with VERY pregnant mamas who couldn’t possibly be their moms, as they were expecting babies of their own any day.
I needed to find a mom for these little ones FAST.
I placed the 5 tiny babies in a basket and moved them from enclosure to enclosure, hoping a mama would step up to claim them. Finally, Clover hopped into the basket with them, licked them clean and started nursing them. If she wasn’t their mama before, she was now.
I put them all in their own enclosure together and she had babies up and popcorning within an hour. She’s done an incredible job and I’m eternally grateful for her service. I couldn’t have done it without you, my sweet lucky four leaf Clover 🌟
You have helped us raise $7,225 so far for these precious angels and I cannot thank you enough. You made this possible. You have taken over 100 guinea pigs from free roaming a filthy, putrid trailer, without food or water, amongst cats, dogs, rabbits and more, fighting for their lives, trying to deliver babies and keep them alive, forced to stay constantly pregnant and starving, and brought them to a safe haven where they can sleep soundly, fill their tummies with all the goodies they want, and are loved beyond measure. ♥️
I hope you all feel amazing about yourselves today because you should! You are making the world such a brighter place 🌟
Luisa and Isabela live with Mirabel and are both on pregnancy watch!
Unfortunately all of the females had been exposed to males until they came to us on August 15th, so we will recheck ultrasound at a later date.
We are still working on names for every girl at the rescue right now, but this is Rainbow 🌈💜
Mirabel is from our recent animal hoarding intake and she is expecting 2 HUGE baby beans any day!
Mirabel lives with her two “sisters” Isabela and Luisa, who are both on pregnancy watch.
Cupcake is going in for surgery this Thursday! We have 3 days to raise $700 for her. Anything helps!
UPDATE: Cupcake has ovarian cysts and a uterine tumor, in addition to arthritis, urine scald on her tummy and stage 1 pododermatitis. She is starting daily pain meds and will be going in for a life saving spay as soon as possible.

Got this cutie pie to the vet this morning before our massive intake tomorrow and now taking myself to the human doctor because I cannot deal 😵💫
Would you believe I accidentally told my husband I’m making a vet appointment for myself today? 😂
Please send well wishes for Miss Cupcake! I’ll let you know what we find out ♥️
So far, we have had 31 of the 67 intakes from Animal Control seen by our vet. We have spent over $1,800 since Wednesday for vet visits and supplies. We will spend another $462 at the vet tomorrow and another $600-$700 the next day.
As I watch our account dwindle and prepare for 200+ new babies to be born in the next 10 weeks, I can’t help but fear this could be the end of The Cozy Cavy.
I hate that someone else’s pure negligence has caused me to feel this way, but it’s hard to remain optimistic during a time like this.
If you can spare even a dollar, I promise we will put it to good use. This rescue has been a dream come true for me and I’m not ready to say goodbye to it, but these last 5 days have been so extremely difficult.
I am so sorry to have to do this but we will not be scheduling any boarding reservations for the rest of the year due to the large intake from Animal Control last week. We are expecting up to 45 litters of babies in the next 10 weeks and will need to utilize every bit of space we can. Thank you so much for understanding!
My husband, daughter and I were at the rescue early Saturday morning, unboxing donations, organizing and cleaning, still needing breakfast, and we opened this snack box. I asked my husband right away if it was from Nikki Moody, and he said yup! Nikki and Tim, this is just so incredibly thoughtful, to not only help the piggies but help us, too. We all took a snack break and have the box in the rescue for all our volunteers to enjoy. I cannot thank you enough for thinking of us ♥️
We have a visitor this week! Sweet baby was dumped outside and will be staying with us until she can go to Rabbit Angels Rabbit Rescue 🩵
Special thank you to Brenda Sayles who came out in the rain and did all of the work trapping and catching this quick little one while I stood idly by watching in awe and amazement pretending to be helpful 😂
Me: I don’t need another guinea pig!
Also me:
All of these babies are vet-checked and looking for their forever homes!
Dennis… ohh, Dennis…
This little man brutally attacked and injured his potential cage mate within 20 seconds of their introduction so he will be coming back to us, as well. We recommend housing this boy alone for another 8 months or so until he is fully matured into adulthood and passed the hormone rises and falls of piggy puberty. He may just be a piggy who needs his own space, but that will be up to his adopters.
Dennis The Menace, it is.
Unfortunately Hotchner will be heading back to the rescue. His senior cage mate sadly passed away and he’s very lonely. This shy boy depended greatly on his cage mate for confidence and his owners do not want to get another piggy at this time. We will be getting him checked out by our vet and hopefully sending him to a new home with a sweet brother for him to follow around soon ♥️
Our friends at Bairds Nest Exotic & Farm Sanctuary have their hands FULL with very pregnant mamas trying to nurse newborns who aren’t even theirs. This intake was such a mess, genders mixed together, no way to know whose babies are whose, everyone is pregnant, it’s awful. Please follow their page and send them supplies if you’re able to - shipping address 3804 E Bay City Forestville rd Minden city mi 48456
They are in need of hay and baby guinea pig pellets!
UPDATE: Our vet is an absolute rockstar and was able to work her magic to get these little loves all checked out for $300, so we have met our fundraising goal for this group! Everyone looked good, no major issues to treat at this time, and they will be posted for adoption soon ☺️
————————————————————————
5 baby boys and 9 baby girls are at the vet today! The total for all exams today will be $924 - anything you can donate helps tremendously! There are still 50+ piggies needing check-ups.
**Regarding Fosters**
At this time, we are looking for foster homes local to the greater Lansing area of Michigan.
Foster homes are responsible for giving their piggies a temporary, safe and lovinghome and taking them to vet appointments in Holt, Michigan. Reliable transportation and willingness to follow our care instructions for our piggies is a MUST!
After all piggies are vet-checked, we may be open to additional foster homes without the “local” requirement. I will keep you all updated on this!
Right now, we are just taking it one day at a time on the road to getting everyone happy, healthy and adopted. 🙂
We are BIG fans of the tropical fiddlesticks hideout 😄 Going to have to get some more tomorrow!
Unfortunately almost every baby girl we took in today has a round, hard abdomen. We have 50-60 babies expecting babies of their own. Animal Control’s final count was 158 guinea pigs, and there will be well over 300 once everyone delivers over the next 10 weeks. These poor babies have been through so much but it all turns around now. I’m with them for the long haul ♥️
Twenty sweet, pregnant piggies are settling into their cozy, loving foster homes tonight 💕
24 beat up, neglected boys headed to The Pipsqueakery for some MUCH needed TLC ♥️
Now that everyone is settled I’m just observing and separating the problem children. We have a mama with her newborn babies in one of our regular Midwest cages, five (approximately) 2 week old males who I have gone ahead and separated into their own penthouse, and the rest are baby girls and very pregnant mamas.
Everyone is doing very well! Eating, drinking, popcorning and snoozing! Thank you so much for everyone who made this possible, including our fosters, volunteers, transporters, donors, animal control, Bairds Nest Exotic & Farm Sanctuary and The Pipsqueakery ♥️
For your viewing pleasure ♥️
I wanted to let you all know that I am alive and we are handling this pretty beautifully thanks to our amazing village ♥️
Photo backstory: I started calling this sweet mama Clover! We had a litter of newborns, one baby limp on its side, and no way of knowing who or where mama was. I put the babies in a little basket and moved them from cage to cage until one of the girls started nursing and caring for them. Clover was the one to take on the job. They are now in their own enclosure and babies are popcorning around and gaining weight. She is our lucky Clover 🍀
It was a ton of work but I think we are actually going to pull this off! Actually, I don’t think. I know, because that’s what we do ☺️
More than 100 guinea pigs will be arriving tomorrow morning at The Cozy Cavy!
🚨EMERGENCY INTAKE UPDATE ‼️
I spoke with Animal Control and several babies have been born since we talked Sunday, making the total count 136 guinea pigs so far. They are sending 30 males to a local pet store they work with, and bringing the remaining 106 to me tomorrow morning. We will be sending 20 males to The Pipsqueakery thanks to our amazing transport volunteer, leaving us with 86 mamas and babies.
Getting all of these piggies vet checked will cost us around $5,676. I truly hate begging you all for money, but I’m going to have to do exactly that. PLEASE for the love of all that is holy or whatever you believe in, send funds. We need massive amounts of bedding, hay, and pellets in addition to the cost of vet visits.
This is going to be crazy 🆘
If you can foster, please let me know!
Fosters must live within one hour of Holt, Michigan, have reliable transportation and be able to provide cages, bedding, and supplies.

This was definitely me last night. 24 hours later, I am feeling much calmer, more prepared and looking forward to meeting the newcomers ♥️ Cannot thank The Pipsqueakery enough for their generous offer to help!
This little sweetheart went to her forever home today!
I noticed a change in Pumpkin’s behavior this week. She’s walking lower to the ground and not wanting to take her medicine, which she usually loves. I got her out to weigh her and she was down 11 grams, nothing drastic. I decided to keep a close eye on her. Today, there are small blood spots on her liner. I wanted to make sure they were indeed from her, and not from her cage mate Bugsy, so I got them both out on a white potty pad to confirm. In the hour they were out, Bugsy peed three times, big clear spots, and Pumpkin peed 0 times. She’s intentionally not peeing. She’s in pain. I am taking her to the vet in a few minutes and I’m not sure what to expect. Her weight is down another 30 grams today and she’s clearly uncomfortable and struggling. Pumpkin came to us August 2023 with no hair and full of cancer. We did a total hysterectomy and she grew all of her hair back, gained a ton of weight and has been living her best life since then with all of the treats and snuggles she could ever want. Her prognosis after surgery was 6-8 months and it’s been almost 12. I’m very worried this could be the end for her. I don’t want it to be, but quality of life is extremely important to me. She’s now 6 years old and been fighting the odds stacked against her for a long time. I fear she is done fighting, but that’s not my decision to make - it’s hers. I will only do what’s best for our sweetest girl. I’ll update you all after her appointment at 3:30pm
This is Kona and he needs help emptying his boar pocket everyday! As male guinea pigs age, they can lose elasticity of their Perineal Sac, causing it to fill up with poops and create impaction. The frequency of necessary boar cleanings always depends on the individual piggy! Have you checked your boars pocket lately?
I finally discovered a way to tell Pickles and Chubbs apart today and I am so excited! I have been able to tell who is who only when I move them to a carrier everyday during cage cleaning. Pickles is like trying to pick up a wild, terrified guinea pig and Chubbs is like trying to pick up a wild bull. As you can see, Pickles is more content and curious in this video than his stiff, statue brother. Today, though, I found a way to tell them apart physically! Chubbs actually has a few black whiskers and Pickles are all white! I’m having so much fun going back through my photos and being able to see who is who 😆 It’s pretty much all Pickles
On today’s episode of If It Ain’t One Thing, It’s Another… Papaya is making some deep, hooty/congested-sounding noises when she tries to vocalize today. Straight back to the vet I go! Please send our sweet princess some good thoughts ♥️ If you can send some funds our way to help with her vet visit, that would be awesome too!
Tim Tims is so excited to go to his forever home tonight! 😆
Early this morning, Rose and Daisy delivered their babies. Rose had 3 happy, healthy little nuggets - 2 boys and 1 girl. Daisy delivered 5 beautiful stillborn babies… 💔 Unfortunately, this can happen with inbred piggies, especially with Daisy’s very young age and such a large litter. My heart is broken, but there is always a silver lining. That silver lining is, we still have our mamas, 3 precious little rainbow beans and mamas will never have to do this again . 🌈 Both mamas have been nursing and caring for these three. So far everyone is doing well ♥️
My car is still out of commission so I took my husband’s truck to the rescue bright and early this morning. I thought he would enjoy a day off but NOPE! Here comes Mr. Cozy Cavy himself for his shift 😂
Just wanted to make a quick video about how to pet your guinea pig in a way that makes it a positive experience for them ☺️
Ruby had 3 big, chonky, healthy babies this evening! It appears she is doing her part to combat the over population crisis and reabsorbed two of the fetuses, referring back to her original ultrasound in April. She and Opal are caring for everyone together and doing extremely well 🩷
