We work very hard helping them become adoptable and finding their furever home. We teach them to walk on a leash and other basic commands. We ascertain they are healthy and they have all vet work done prior to adoption. The Heart of Jackson Humane Society, Inc., is a society of volunteers who are seeking the best possible placement of stray and unwanted companion animals in Jackson County, Kansas.

Although we have been in continuous operation since 1975 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, we did not have a physical shelter until May, 2005.

We'll have printouts of the recipe 📃 available. Treat your furbaby to some love this Valentine's Day! Pupcakes 🧁🐾 will be available for pickup at the Shelter from 4-5:30 on 💘 Valentine's Day! We are also doing Hearts for Hounds again. Help us cover the shelter walls with 💕 love! Each heart ❤️ costs $5 💵 and are available at the Shelter! This is Billy aka Bentley (while at the shelter) in his new home. His mom, Meredith, sent us this update today and says " He is really smart and has learned a 🐾🐕lot in two weeks. He knows how to use the doggy door, can sit, and shake. I love him so much!" We love getting updates! Happy Valentine's Day to Billy and his new family! He is a little sweetheart.😍😍🥰🥰

Murphey was anxious to meet his new family, Brenda and Andy who were coming all the way from Louisburg, Ks. His patience paid off when Brenda gave him long massages and in return, he rewarded her with lots of puppy kisses! And the magic happened. He was hers and she was his! The big surprise for Murphey is that when he gets to his new home he will have his own cat named Blue ! Blue has been missing her dogs whose age and illnesses took them away and Murphey has been missing his 7 cat friends! And we think more magic is about to happen! Thanks to all who joined us for Bingo! We had fun and will be planning another one soon enough! 😁 We're taking Pupcake 🧁 pre-orders til Monday the 10th! Nikki Dinay made some to show at Bingo tonight! They are adorable and are edible for us too (all but the topper, which is a dog treat 🐶)! We'll include the recipe with them, and can't wait to see some pics of furbabies enjoying them! Special thanks to Carla Baum, she has purchased Pupcakes for all of our Shelter furbabies! This is just a fraction of the many supplies gathered this holiday season by the shoppers and staff of Tractor Supply. What fun it was for dogs and shelter staff to see all the wonderful and very much appreciated gifts. The dogs are smiling because of you!

Shaq wants to say good morning and happy Wednesday. Shaq has been at the shelter over 4 months with little to no interest. He is shy with new people. He is now in a foster home working on meeting new people and building his trust. He is doing very well with all the dogs large and small and loves his foster mom and dad. He loves taking walks and riding in the car. He has done great on house-training too. He is still shy meeting new people but slowly gaining trust. He would really love a family of his own with another dog to play with. If you are interested in Shaq please contact the shelter and ask to speak with the foster mom to set up a meet and greet.

Reo is a handsome lab mix. He had a good time today playing with the ball in the yard. Come out and meet him.

Miles is Daisy's brother. He is a very smart boy who needs an owner that knows how to train a smart pup! He likes having something in his mouth and enjoyed the game of "find it" with the treats.

Daisy also loves to play fetch outside and find it in the pool!

Having a little fetch session in the office with Daisy. She did very well! She is a sweet girl that needs a home with a family who will give her lots of love and attention and keep her in a secure enclosure.
