Me and my longest held fish and plant confidant had a great time at the Northeast Plant Show at the OnCenter in Syracuse! There is something really great about getting out there for these events and meeting other enthusiasts, so we will definitely be attending more in the future. Stay tuned and I will be announcing some future swaps/expos and previewing some of the plants and critters coming with me :)

Surprise babies! When they are fish, one of my favorite things. When they are mammals, not so much.

Let's talk a moment about parrots, feather. This is a plant I just started offering and there are some really interestin things about it, but also some quirks and drawbacks.
For one it is uniquely beautiful in texture, make little puffy cottonball like flowers when thriving and will ravenously absorb excess nutrients from the water, giving you a massive boost in water quality. This makes it ideal for unfiliterrd set ups.
It likes to grow out of the top of a tank. For some people that's going to be a major disadvantage, but for other people it will be just the thing. It's what you call an emergent, so it's base must be rooted under water, but the tops must be out of water.
While sime emergents can survive with peroids of being fully submerged and fully dry, this one cannot. It can survive fully submerged for VERY brief peroids while it breeches the surface, but too long and it will drown. In otherwords, this plant may not make it if you plant it in deep water where it is more than an inch or two from the surface initially.
It needs higher light than some plants, but can otherwise adapt to a wide variety of conditions. While it will not likely do well in gravel or sand, mine pictured here is growing in basalt substrate, so you can grow this without soil as long as your substrate is very porous.
This is an excellent choice for mini ponds like I have here, outdoor ponds, or tanks with high quality lighting above or near a window with space for it to pop out of the back, or in paladariums to beautiful effect.
It can be yours for $7 per three stems. Happy growing :)

just showing off my rainbow shiners. They are a neat little fish, that probably should be more popular than they are, and they are quickly becoming one of my favorites.

A friend of mine invited me to her new office to help her aqua escape a tiny tank that she inherited. This is a 5 get more tank and it's going to house. Either shrimp or a Nano species that will be comfortable in this environment or some mix of. I'm sharing this because, with a couple species of tolerant plants a little bit of glue and some hard materials, even a tiny office tank can be a really pretty sight with a bit of simple scaping.

The plants featured are crypt. wendtii, narrow leaf java fern, a bucephelandra sp., sagittaria subulatta, salvinia minima (water spangles), and amazon frogbit.

This is just a little information about recovery tanks and how to treat a fish that isn't deathly ill, but is not doing well. I hope some of you find this helpful.

Hello, fish friends. Today I just wanted to show you something nice you can do with several varieties of moss.
All you need to do is find yourself a nice piece of aquarium safe wood with lots of spindly little branches. You can often find pieces like that at aquarium stores marketed as "aquarium bonsais".
Once you have the wood and the moss, rip the moss into little managable bits and use crazy glue to wedge it into the elbows of the twigs and other surfaces, and then simply wait for it to grow! Some people also tie itndown with fishing line, but in either case it will anchor itself once it starts to grow into the wood.
In Im my experience, the most important thing to make this work well is just keeping the "tree" in a place with very little water movement. The moss species shown here is Christmas moss,. A small starter bunch is all you need, and I sell them for $4. You can also attach it to just about any other rough surface, or even plastic mesh to make your own mossy creations.
