Heartworms 101

It takes a perfect scenario for your pet to get heartworms.
Cats even less so as larvae can not thrive in their bodies to make it to a stage where it would cause disease.

Heartworms can only be transmitted through female mosquitos at a perfect time, with a sequence of perfect events and can not be transmited from one pet to another.

A pet’s healthy immune system will recognize heartworm larvae as foreign invaders. They would mount an attack that can defeat the invasion and heartworms would never be an issue.

Unfortunately, very few pets have a healthy immune system due to over-vaccination, use of medications, high toxic load, and poor quality nutrition found in kibble diets. The good news is you can change your pet’s immunity with a diet change.

Heartworm prevention can be aquired via the same flea and tick sprays that repell mosquitoes, testing every 3 to 4 months, feeding a nutrient dense diet that promotes immunity (not kibble), supplementing with garlic to deter mosquitoes from landing on your pet and many other options on post.

This is always mind-boggling to me. When I get asked if raw feeding is safe, or that only certain proteins can be raw fed. There is so much misinformation on the “harms” of raw feeding marketed by the big corporations that own our pet food, marketing, studies, and vet schools. When I first found raw feeding almost 5 years ago, it changed my pet’s life, It was at that time “a risk worth taking” we saw it as an opportunity to heal our dog rather than have him be on meds his whole life. We went all in a 24-hour fast and straight into 100% raw feeding, it was a learning curve but I wouldn’t have it any other way. 1 week it took to get Ziggy off his bleeding paws, and bright red underbelly with some patches of hair loss from itching so much. No Vet can give you that kind of change with any medicine.

DIET, what goes into your pets body is the most important part of the root cause of your pets symptoms. Although genes, breed and what your pets momma had play some role they are not the BIG players. Most diseases that your pets get are reversaible, diabetes is reversible, obesity, allergies, GI issues all fixable and the start is the change to REAL food.

Changing your pet's kibble for raw food is hard. It's also more expensive but having a sick pet is HARDER and more expensive in the long run. Choose your hard.

Mainly Change is hard because it’s just new and unfamiliar but once you start it it will progressively get easier and known.

Don’t let your pet stay the same and progressively worse over time, raw feeding can be a pain at first but the rewards of a healthy pet are priceless.

What is going on in your pet's mouth is connected to what's going on in the body. Mouth microbiome and gut microbiome are intertwined, connected and are not separate issues. Tooth breaking, teeth not coming in, dental decay, plaque build up are all connected to what nutrients are coming into your pet's body and the state of your pet's mitochondria. The mouth is systemically connected to your pet's lungs, heart, bones, gut, organs, and more!

Feeding a species-appropriate diet, supported with raw meaty bones, or whole prey to gnaw and chew. Providing the right nutrients is the first line of defense to a healthy mouth microbiome and healthy teeth as well as gut health.

Chronic Inflammation can’t be healed with inflammatory foods aka kibble, prescription diets, or cooked foods with rice. It can’t be healed with treats filled with preservatives, creams, or drugs (apoquel) that help the symptoms but fail to do anything for the root cause.

The issue with chronic inflammation is that it creates havoc in the body, your pet's body creates inflammation to fight the issue of things entering the bloodstream that shouldn’t be there. Malabsorption of nutrition, inflammation in other parts, low stomach acid, backup of other detox pathways etc, and the list goes on…the longer it takes for someone to start feeding raw an anti-inflammatory food the longer it will take to heal. Your pet’s body will also need more help than just raw food as, they might suffer from acid reflux, or digestion issues if that’s a case raw feeding is not enough alone.

Don’t wait till it's too late to start incorporating raw food into your pet’s body. Kibble is never the answer it is the problem. Kibble is filled with pesticides, glyphosate, and too many cheap carbs like rice, and is the main cause of tooth decay, failing organs, gut issues, and allergies to name a few.
Glyphosate found in kibble affects 65% of your pet’s microbiome and overall health.

A simple sign of health and vitality in pets is their coat and skin. A pet with dull , flaky skin is a sign of deteriorating health. The body will use its resources last on a shiny coat, but if your pets nutrients are consistently there , the resources will be there for a full soft and shinny coat.

The skin is also an organ, if the liver and detox pathways are backed up your pet will detox through skin hence allergies, rashes and intolerences that show up on the skin.

Mainstream pet food manufacturers sell us on the idea that kibble is the only thing that our pets can eat and that raw food is poisonous. Nothing can be further from backwards.
