Luna is a 12-13 year old spayed female American Bulldog who lost everything when her previous owner became too ill to care for her and she was surrendered to an outdoor shelter. She has now been in foster care for several months, waiting for her own place to call home for the rest of her golden years. If you cannot adopt, Luna is also available for forever foster/ fospice in a home where she can get more attention from her person or people. Luna would be best as the only dog in the home. She is very quiet and easy going at home, all she craves is love and a comfy bed. Luna is very sweet and gentle, and loves being petted, cuddled, and belly rubbed. She occasionally gets playful with her toys, but is starting to slow down with age. Luna would be ideal for someone who is retired and needs companionship. Bonita had a break from the shelter and volunteers took her to the beach. We discovered that Bonita loves the beach and loves to swim! She quickly figured out how swim with the help of a life vest and kept playing with the waves and going in for swim. Bonita is 5 years old and weighs 50 pounds. PENNY IS READY FOR HER FOREVER HOME! 🐾❤️ #repost @henleysgarden — Look into Penny’s soulful eyes and see your new best friend 😍. Penny is a loving and loyal boxer mix looking for her forever home. Like so many abandoned pets in Miami-Dade County, Penny’s story is a sad one. Her owner left her at a grooming/boarding place and never came back for her. She was abandoned there. No one knows why or how someone could do such a thing. Penny is such a sweet and gentle soul, she didn’t deserve this and was probably so loyal to her previous owner. Luckily, the owner of the grooming/boarding place brought her home but couldn’t keep her, so she surrendered Penny to a no-kill shelter. That shelter closed and Penny was moved to another crowded shelter in another city. There, she was allowed to have contact with other dogs and she lashed out at another dog. She was about to be euthanized because of this. Penny was failed by humans once again 😢. Luckily, @circle_of_love_florida stepped in before it was too late and Penny is now living in foster care with me for the past couple months. She seems to be okay with other calm dogs, but we are taking it very slow because Penny most likely was never around other dogs until being left at the grooming/boarding place and living in the shelter. We would love to see Penny go to a forever home where she would be the only fur baby. Penny weighs about 65 lbs and has a lot of love to give 💞. She is affectionate and loves physical contact. She would do well in a home with children and she can also live in an apartment. Penny travels very well in the car and she’s an amazing swimmer! Luna was a loving and loyal companion to an older gentleman until he became very ill and could no longer care for her so she was surrendered to a no-kill shelter. Luna was well cared for and loved all her life, and it shows. She looks phenomenal for her age! At around 12-13 years old, she is still going strong. It seems that she knows in her heart that the next best chapter of her life is yet to come, and that is what keeps her going. Luna is easy to love; she has quite a charming and endearing personality and she will make you laugh as she runs around with her toys and tosses them in the air. When she’s not putting on a show, she is very chill and quiet, until you tell her to “speak”. Yes, Luna understands basic commands and even knows how to speak on command. Best of all, Luna is super cuddly and is the softest, squishiest, most huggable living teddy bear around. She is gentle, playful, and affectionate with all people and has been around younger children also. She can live in a house or apartment, but preferably one without stairs as her hips are becoming arthritic with age. We would love nothing more than to see Luna in a loving and comfortable home for the remainder of her golden years. Stevie lived at Born Free Shelter for six months until volunteer Cristiana took him in as a foster. Stevie has now been in foster care with Cristiana for one and a half years and Cristiana has started her own animal rescue, @circle_of_love_florida when Born Free closed. REPOST @henleysgarden “Penny is one of the dogs originally from Born Free Pet Shelter, a no-kill shelter I volunteered at for the past year. She was one of the dogs that was transferred to another no-kill shelter when Born Free Pet Shelter closed. I was checking up on all of the dogs at other shelters when I noticed Penny was no longer listed as available for adoption. I called, hoping to hear that she got adopted. Instead, I was told that she went after another dog at an adoption event and she was scheduled for euthanasia that very day. I was shocked. I asked them to wait and give me a day to get up there and pick her up. Any of the volunteers who have spent time with Penny at Born Free Shelter would be appalled to know that she was going to be put down. We knew that she did not like other dogs. She tolerates calm, submissive dogs. But she can be downright mean to others. We were always very careful at Born Free not to let any of the dogs have contact with each other unless they were known to be dog-friendly, and Penny never had any incidents there. Somehow, she was able to have contact twice with another dog that she was not okay with at this other shelter. I don’t know the details of the incidents, but the truth is that all shelters are full or over-full at this time, and dogs like Penny do not last long. Even though she is as calm and gentle as can be with humans, and she is neutral with calm, submissive dogs. Penny was amazing for the 5 hour car ride home. Most of the time she just laid down and slept or rested, occasionally sitting up to quietly and calmly gaze out the window. The whole time, I’m thinking about what a great companion she would be for someone who likes to take road-trips and beach trips with their dog (someone like ME, a year ago when I only had 1 dog!). Penny loves to swim and is an excellent swimmer (a volunteer at Born Free took her on a field trip to a dog friendly beach). Penny must have been used to traveling in the car and swimmi
