Born Free Pet Shelter provides a critical service to dogs and their owners in Southwest Miami-Dade County since 1981. Born Free a No Kill shelter is serving the Redland and Southwest Miami-Dade County community by rescuing dogs from that community. The 5 acre property size allows for the care of animals in a humane, open environment where animals can exercise. We have volunteers who help with our

fundraisers, adoption process and care of shelter pets. We are currently running a High School Student volunteer program the students earn community service hours for their efforts. Our volunteers include students from the University of Miami, Eagle Scout candidates as well as caring adults from the community. Outreach efforts include Petfinder and Adopt-a-Pet our partner websites for support with adoptions. Our affiliations include New Pet Alerts, Found Animals Foundation, the Shelter Pets Project and All Paws. We use classified newspaper ads, social media and have had TV news coverage to try to help with the adoption process. We have a monthly newsletter going out to supporters. Born Free Shelter has a spaying/neutering and microchip program for our dogs. Pet Project for Pets supports us with food donations. Presently we are caring for 135 animals, some of which have special needs; epileptic, blind, deaf, paraplegic, as well as many seniors. Challenges are the increasing number of pets that are abandoned and the prevention of more pets from being abandoned. Our fundraisers, an annual benefit and donations are our only sources of income. We would greatly appreciate your consideration for financial support maintaining the shelter and its’ mission to find permanent homes.

Please help by sharing! Penny is in need of a foster or foster-to-adopt home. You may remember Penny from her days at Born Free Pet Shelter. Penny has been in foster care with Circle Of Love Florida Animal Rescue, but her foster mom is moving and isn’t able to bring Penny with her. She is currently in boarding with Penny is around 10-11 years old, house trained, fully up to date on shots, and spayed. She is very friendly with people and good with kids. Penny has been friends with large older male dogs and has lived with a large older female dog in foster care also. She is dog-selective however, and shouldn’t live with cats. Penny is great in the car and also a great swimmer. For more information please contact Cristiana with at (786) 314-0039
