Farmers Markets! Tips, tricks, and Clips!
There’s still good money in the markets, even more so when things start to cool down. Upcoming fall season will be peak seasons for most markets. Kids will be back in normal routines, and their parents will be looking forward to getting out and about. Here’s some of the things to focus in on while at markets if you’re new!
1- Try to harvest live. Live harvest do tremendously better in terms of engagement and interest from customers. If you can not harvest live, try to bring a couple of live trays for showing purpose. (Some markets don’t allow live harvest)
2- Have signage! Posters that answer common questions in an informative way are huge tools to lean on when you stand gets crowded. Make sure they can be seen from multiple angles, if you need more than one don’t hesitate to put them up. Have a good quality banner, you can get these printed from Office Depot. We all subconsciously judge on first impressions, make it count.
3- Subscribers. Encourage folks to use the clip board you have and sign up for weekly subscriptions. Keep a mental tally of who your selling too, (age group, men/women %, possible special diet trends, etc.) Use this data to narrow down running ads. For instance, at the market our main base consisted of 90% women, 25-50, and at the time Keto was huge. Our first ad heard towards these specifics grossed us 12 new sub off a $20 or $40 dollar ad. It’s been a really long time, don’t bash me for not remembering.
Bonus - this should be a common sense thing, but until you get in that groove you may not realize. Over and over and over, you’ll pitch to all types of people at the market. Get EXTREMELY confident in yourself. Know your product fluently. You’ll learn to read body language, in real time as it happens and you’ll adjust your pitch, adapt accordingly! These skills that you develop here at the market will and can propel you into much larger clients. I promise you, all of us with businesses went through the same thing, or extremely similar circumstances. Pressure creates diamonds. Let’s grow 🌱
