Our power is still out, but we are working hard to make sure that as soon as it’s back, we are able to keep getting pets ready to return home to their families. Please reach out if you have any questions about your pet - we are also being delayed with clinic returns as many of them have been closed due to lack of power or phones. We are ready to get these sweet babies home! 💕

Did you know that we offer humane euthanasia services as well? As the only veterinarian-owned cremation company in our area, we have compassionate care by our certified hospice veterinarian available at our Comfort Room in Honea Path (by appointment only). The comfort room is a peaceful setting, similar to a living room, without the traditional smells and sounds of a veterinary clinic. Running water, dog or cat specific pheromones, and comfortable couches, rugs, and beds offer a calm setting for a gentle goodbye. This option allows for complete care, from euthanasia to cremation, under the dedicated hands of one single team 💕🫶

We have had several families mention to us that they had never felt comfortable having a pet cremated, when flame cremation was their only option. We absolutely feel the same way ourselves, which is why we are so glad we were able to make aquamation, as a GENTLE and greener cremation option, available to pets of the upstate!

Please remember our pet loss grief peer support meeting for tomorrow, August 27th, is cancelled. The good news is that our September meeting is on track, and we are able to keep them open to all and complimentary at this time!!! 🚨

A wonderful memorial for such a well loved beautiful girl.

Jada was the best baby girl in the whole wide world.
She loved going somewhere in the car,
Playing with her squeaky pigs,
Snuggling on the couch and on the beds,
Barking at anyone how came close to her mom,
Finding her bones,
Going for walks,
Exploring with her mom on snow days,
Eating treats, her mom’s food, and puppy cup ice cream,
But most of all she loved her mom and being by her side.

Jada, though it may be lots of times when it's dark before we meet again, I know you’ll be waiting for me.

We have loved offering families the opportunity to share a personalized tribute for their pets for years with our Faithful Hearts. FRIDAY FEATURE: Introducing more about how our aquamation aftercare services work!

Step 6: Packaging
The final step in a pet's aftercare journey with us is lovingly preparing them for their return home to their family (or for their trip to their final resting spot in a pine forest, for those being communally cremated). As with all of the other steps, in this phase we gently handle each pet as we would want our own to be cared for. The metal tags created for pets being individually cremated, which accompanied them throughout their journey with us, are included in their urn with them, offering additional reassurance that your pet has returned home to you.

While at this time, pets we cremate communally are spread in a private family property, in the future we hope to be able to purchase land to turn into a site for spreading communal remains so that families have a place to visit their loved ones. We are picturing a natural pathway through woods with benches and easily accessible for all!

FRIDAY FEATURE: Introducing more about how our aftercare services work!

Steps 4 & 5: Drying & Processing
After their aquamation cycle is completed, pets' remains are gently transferred to their assigned drying bin and placed in our drying cabinet. For those pets being returned to their families, their metal tag is placed in their bin with them. Each pet is also tracked via their bin colors, our location charting, and in our software system, including any accompanying notes such as saving surgical hardware for pets that have had orthopedic surgery (if family has opted to receive these items back with their pet). The drying phase typically takes 2 days, but can take up to 3 days for some pets.

After drying, pets’ remains are processed using specialized equipment. This step transforms remains into the "ash" material, the same as what is received via flame cremation, but more of your pet is able to be returned (or moved to their final resting space) due to the gentleness of aquamation.

FRIDAY FEATURE: Introducing more about how our aquamation aftercare services work! **Please note there is some technical detail in this post that some may prefer to skip**

Step 3: Aquamation
Our team works incredibly hard to get all pets' aquamation cycles started quickly, both to get family members returned home as soon as possible and to minimize preservation needed. This allows us NOT to use freezing as a method of preservation, something we absolutely would prefer for our own pets as well.

Aquamation is a cremation process (the chemical reaction is alkaline hydrolysis) that uses warm water, gentle flow, and alkaline mineral salts (KOH and NaOH) to break down organic material, similar to the natural breakdown process that happens over months to years in the soil (without the introduction of harmful chemicals from euthanasia medications into the environment). This aquamation process happens over a time period of about 20-24 hours. To highlight the GENTLER energy used in aquamation vs flame cremation, with flame cremation cycles are typically 45 minutes - 2 hours, with temperatures reaching 1400-1800 F.

During their cycle, each pet being individually returned to their family is placed into their own chamber in the machine, with their custom metal tag. The chambers are designed to allow water flow but no mixing of remains. Paper charts and computer software are also used for tracking at this step. For those pets being privately cremated, an entire daily cycle is completed with them alone in the machine.

FRIDAY FEATURE: Introducing more about how our aftercare services work 💦

Step 2: The Laser
Each day, we offer highly individualized care to a very limited number of pets, received directly by either our veterinary team (Blake & Alissa) or by Ben, our aftercare manager. After any paw prints and/or other memorial items are carefully created, for those pets going home to their families we use our laser to create a custom metal name tag. This tag stays with your pet through every step and is returned to you with them at the end of their journey with us, ensuring peace of mind 💕 In addition to metal tags, we use paper charts, computer software, and color coding to ensure every pet is tracked diligently throughout their time with us.

We also use our laser to create our custom photo urns, nameplates, and wood etching offerings 🐾
