The YHS family headed up to Gibson Prairie for a wonderful cool and crisp overnight. Two long rides, silent nights and a little horse camp maintenance. The camp trough was gross! C and S scrubbed and dumped, repeat until it ran clear and modified it so hopefully it will stay cleaner for the long run. There are still a few trees down on the Thoroughbred trail (with small.cut around we cleared) but we were able to cut thru the biggest issue.to make it easier for some great fall riding. Only saw one yellow jacket nest near camp (we sprayed it)- none on the trails. Happy trails!

Lucky. In so many ways. Oregon and our Gorge are currently on fire. This wildfire season is off to an extreme start. Luckily the winds have been in our favor and the firefighters working overtime are fighting the good fight. Enjoying the blue sky while we can...as we know too well, it can change fast...

While we love the ability to ride trails right from YHS, it is wonderful to have Mt Hood and Mt Adams close by to explore as well. Lupine and Columbine are blooming, fresh mountain air and miles to explore.

Re-cap of our last couple days on the backs of Icelandic horse. Glacial rivers, soft fields and a black sand beach. We lucked out with sun most day and no rain. Windy at times but hey- we are from The Gorge! Now for the important question- Where should the YHS community got next year for a horse-travel trip?! My ideas- working cattle ranch, pack trip into the wilderness somewhere or Argentina! What do you think?!

Don't worry, we are doing just fine over here in Iceland! The traditional way to ride longer distances here in Iceland is to ride a horse for a couple hours at a quick pace while your extra horses follow along behind. We each get to ride 2 or 3 horses a day and enjoy the free herd riding with us in the impressive valleys and crossing glacial rivers. See our Story for some videos!

A pretty special post- day 1 of 5 on Icelandic horses in Iceland. Five of the YHS family jumped on an airplane for a huge adventure. Day one was three hours of tölting thru expansive glacial valleys in some strong winds. Obviously it didn't stop the fun. Stay tuned for more updates and check out our story for an action video of some tölting!

Finally a moment to recap the amazing weekend with . The sessions with Meika were so helpful- clear and concise instruction with insight into your horse's brain, habits and body. Goals set, pearls of wisdom learned. But the best thing was the feeling- supportive, caring and kind as we all navigated different obstacles and challenges with our horses. Endless smiles and laughs. So many thanks to Meika for joining us, for and for spearheading the weekend. Can't wait for Meika to join us again! (Photos- and )

So excited that Mother Nature is playing nice next weekend for our first clinic of 2024! There are a couple last minute spots open if you would like to join us!

We have been keeping an eye on the weather forecast for the Meika Decher's Clinic next weekend at York Hill Stables. Suffice to say, it is not like this past weekend. We are happy to add, don't forget sunscreen and make sure you are hydrated. 🌞🌞!
If you are interested in watching and want to know the ride times - PM and I will send them.

It's a wet weekend here in the PNW. We are a split team this weekend with some of us supporting our Mt Hood Pony Club Team at Dressage Rally . Back on the hill our staff is battling wet, cold and muddy conditions that have created chilly conditions for our horses. Digging out blankets, drying horses off to make sure they are warm. Spring isn't always tulips and daffodils!

It's a love-hate relationship with our covered arena....it is so lovely to have a 4 season space to ride but it is an older arena that didn't get the maintenance it needed throughout the years- it can be dusty, it is uneven, and the footing doesn't have the structure and fluff we want anymore. SO WE ARE FIXING IT! Currently we are leveling the subfloor ( aka hours upon hours sitting in the excavator) and later this week or early next week we will be putting in 6 bales of Eclipse footing down to drastically improve the quality. We are so excited!!
