What an incredibly successful party! Our dear friends @workinghandsbeer absolutely rocked Haunt the Heights this year! The dog costume contest had so many contestants, there were hotdogs, space dogs, two octopi, Gumby & Pokey, a family of Totoros, a lobster, some pizza, lions, bats, Uncle Sam, Chewbaca, a couple of dragons, fairies, and the winner of the grand prize was an amazing dog / owner combo of S'mores and a campfire! 🔥
Good dog job everyone, it was an absolutely gorgeous day for a street party and the whole community really showed their support. We love our Heights Neighborhood and our rad 12th and 13th street small businesses owners.

We have these rad new @sodapupdogtoys enrichment feeders in the shop, and I've been having so much fun "designing" my girl's mid-day snacks! They absolutely engage and exhaust her, and today, after she was finished, she literally took the empty feeder into her crate and fell asleep. 😂
These feeders work so well for feeding regular meals, calming anxious pups, sneaking in supplements, occupying an hour or so of time (if you freeze it) boosting hydration and just generally giving a pleasurable, positive food experience!

We got a phone call a few weeks ago from our @polkadog rep and what he said, blew our minds! 🤯
Apparently we sell more Polkadog products than ANY STORE IN THE COUNTRY!!! Can you believe it?!? Tiny little Dog River, in tiny little Hood River, in tiny little Oregon. 😍
Here's the deal though: Polkadog is an amazing company! All of their treats are handmade in Boston at the Boston Fish Pier, the company is dedicated to sustainable fishing practices and clean sourcing for all of their meaty ingredients. They've even come out with a new treat (coming soon) that uses a green crab species that is over abundant in New England waters. Harvesting this crab helps restore biodiversity in coastal ecosystems, and creates new economic opportunities for local fishers. I mean, that's SO COOL! 🦀
As well as all this, they sponsor shelter dogs around the country, cover their adoption fees and set them up with food and supplies (and lots of treats!) so they can thrive in their new home.

This is a BIG DEAL in the world of independent pet retailers, as Pets Plus Magazine is the leading publication of all things indie and all things pet. Not to mention that it's a national contest and here we are, in little Hood River, Oregon, playing with the big kids all over the country. ♥️
It was a rigorous entry process, we had professional photographer @krishnamuirhead shoot the whole store, we had our website polished and dialed by @neongrounds and I wrote and rewrote many essays before submitting the whole package for review last spring.
It is an honor and a pleasure to win this contest, because you know we're cool, and we know we're cool, but now the whole country knows we're cool!!!
