🌞 Hot Weather = Heatstroke Risk for Pets! 🐾
As temperatures rise, so does the risk of heatstroke in our furry friends. Heatstroke (hyperthermia) can occur when a dog's body temperature climbs above 104°F (40°C) and they can no longer cool themselves effectively. This is a life-threatening emergency that can cause organ failure or death if not treated promptly.
🚨 Watch for these warning signs:
-Excessive panting or drooling
-Bright red gums
-Rapid heart rate
-Lethargy, weakness, or collapse
-Vomiting or diarrhea (possibly with blood)
-Confusion or unsteadiness
-Seizures
🐶 If you suspect heatstroke:
Move your pet to a cool area immediately (shade or A/C).
Apply cool (not cold) water to the neck, belly, groin and paw pads.
Offer small sips of cool water – don’t force it.
Use a fan to aid cooling.
Call us or head to the nearest veterinary clinic ASAP.
💡 Prevention Tips:
✔️ Always provide shade and fresh water.
✔️ Avoid walks and play during peak heat.
✔️ NEVER leave pets in parked cars – even for “just a minute”!
✔️ Know your pet’s risk – flat-faced breeds and long-haired animals are especially vulnerable.
