Let's talk about Cicadas 🪳 The most common question we are asked in Vet Med during Cicada season is, "Can my pets eat them?" In short, yes, dogs and cats can eat cicadas. But, in small quantities. Cicadas are not poisonous, don't bite, sting, or carry diseases and they are not toxic to pets. However, their hard exoskeletons can cause gastrointestinal upset and irritation or obstruction if consumed in large amounts, or pose a choking hazard. They are harmless to you, your home, your crops, and your pets although they can damage some trees and bushes. They feed on fluids from tree roots. They will naturally aerate your lawn and add nutrients to the soil as they decompose 🌿 They should be gone in a few weeks, so just make sure your furry friends don't eat too many of them at a time 🐶🐱

Fun Animal Fact:

Did you know a cat has the power to heal themselves by purring. A domestic cat’s purr has a frequency of between 25 and 150 Hertz. This happens to be the frequency at which muscles and bones best grow and repair themselves.

Huh, Maybe that's why it's so relaxing to us when a 's on us.

Fun Animal Fact:

Did you know when in the dark, dogs use their whiskers to pick up subtle changes in the air currents. This gives them a better understanding of the environment and helps them “see” better in the dark.

***ATTENTION***

As of today, adult canine adoption fees will be $115, puppy adoption fees will be $110, feline adoption fees will be $75, reclaim fees will be $20/day for every day the animal is here (weekends and holidays included), and microchips at adoption events will be $15. All of these prices include taxes. We will still not be making any money off of the animals. However, we will be losing a little less money per animal, allowing us to continue helping the animals as they come in. All puppies and kittens at 2 pounds or 8 weeks old will now stay for spay or neuter. We will be looking for trusted fosters for these babies until they can get in for their appointments so that they do not have to just sit here at the shelter. Home checks will be a requirement. We reserve the right to refuse any adoption or foster home. As always thank you for your understanding.
