Busy last 24+ hours. Started by running up to Brier Hill Cottage to pick up some juveniles after work to tag along with ours headed to Heavenly Hydrangea Silkies in Massachusetts. From there back to Albany for a family thing for a couple hours. Before leaving the area we swung by Ledgerock Farm for a visit to see how things are progressing. 4 hours back home & my recliner is calling my name.

Everyone going to Massachusetts has been picked up, put to bed with food & water, fresh hatches out of the incubator & in the brooder. Just need to capture one's from us going in the morning & head out.

Everyone's always hot nuts wanting Silkie chicks until they find out they're not Tractor Supply priced Silkie chicks.

After being asked multiple times a week & at least once daily if I had any available chicks.....
I now have a handful of chicks with another set currently in lockdown.
I will be headed out to western Massachusetts early Saturday morning & The Albany area afterwards for the afternoon for any early birds looking to meet along my travels for chicks or a free cockerel. Otherwise I will be home Sunday for anyone wanting to stop by.
Leaving roughly 6am arriving in Massachusetts around noonish & Troy,NY for a 2PM family thing.

One cockerel down 40 more to go I suspect.

55 Juveniles out in the growout shed & I see alot of peckers in that crowd. If you’re looking for a free boy I have Black, Blue, Buff & Partridge. As soon as I get a Thursday off they’ll all go to the livestock auction.
By they I obviously mean the cockerels. I know I better clarify that before I get inundated with request for free or auction price pullets.

Scoring the conditioning cages on Marketplace today. 1 double decker & 2 triple deckers. Pennies on the dollar. So much easier cleaning than the ones with the clasp where only 1 door opens.

Everyones getting their pens cleaned, ivermectin & a Brazilian.

Will have some extra Silkie chicks in hatches April 3rd (apx 1+ dozen), 7th (apx 1/2 doz) & 11th (over 2 dozen) in these varieties. The first hatches are the last BBS from our breeding as we sold them off to make room for other varieties we work with with limited infrastructure to house groups separately.
Black
Blue
Splash (if any)
Partridge (select)

I do not ship chicks.
Pick up locally in Hornell,NY

All the brooders with tops, available breeders & both John Deere mowers are all sold. Only chicks once they hatch & alot of cockerels sprinkled with a pullet here and there from here on. It was a long expensive winter on unemployment.

Buff explained in 12 seconds
The Blondes of the Silkie varieties, prove me wrong.

Miserable weather. Looks like a couple days of lounging around catching up on naps. Next weekend doesn't look to promising either.

Were gunna get this fertility on the money one way or the other. Brazilians & Manscaping for everyone.

After starting to go through my growouts last night while banding I came to the realization to keep future chicks off the top of the damn feeder. It destroyed their crests with most having flat tops that could also be bonnet crest from running it back n forth on the chicken wire top of the brooder.

I know….I thought you shut the incubators down. With some selective hatching for friends/ family & the constant messages for chicks it has begun 🐣🐣🐣🐣🐣
It never gets old, only the constant cleaning & chicken dust.
