We had one escapee running around underneath the brooder and furniture. It’ll get hungry and come out crying sooner or later. Either that or catch it after dark.

Who has birds from me over the last few years? It's always nice to see what I didn't keep, be it they left as a hatching egg, a chick or growout. They're not always a ten but you're damn sure we always seem to let the gems slip away.

I've been setting all my Buff & Partridge then feeding everything out of the 3 BBS pens to chicks but I'm wall to wall chicks well over what I'll need for the season.
Help me help you by you helping me stop hatching.
Frigid temps do effect viability, mainly my splashmans pen where they always lay in the drafty corner.

This going back to work for the season seriously cuts into my ability to collect eggs before they freeze. Worse yet freeze, crack & create egg eaters. I could have gone another month before getting called back.

Brooder cleaning day is always traumatic. They act like the arm that reaches in with food & water everyday is coming to throw them in a chicken pot pie. All 3 brooders smell better with fresh pine bedding than wasted food and chicken p**p.

A few days ago I had a Blue hen doing a lot of squeaky coughing with croopy sounds so I took her inside the house, treated her and have been spoiling her. She hasnt coughed since shortly after she came inside. My guess is she had some crumble go down the wrong way irritating her airway for a couple hours because shes been quiet as a church mouse & happy as can be in her crate getting fresh water with Vet RX in it & scrambled eggs daily. The egg song a bit loud in the house so tomorrow she goes back outside.

The winter vacation is over. Got called back to work for the season to run off road haul truck. 26 years mining starting my 27th. Too young to retire too old & fat to start over when we're mined out this summer.
