🎃Halloween Safety Tips from Lake Road Animal Hospital🎃
Halloween can be a fun time for both humans and pets, but it's important to remember that some treats can be dangerous for our furry friends. Chocolate, in particular, contains theobromine, which is toxic to pets.
To keep your pet safe this Halloween:
Store all candy and treats out of reach. Pets are naturally curious and may be tempted to try a sugary snack.
Be mindful of decorations. Avoid using decorations that contain small, choking hazards or toxic materials (especially for those curious kitties.)
Keep your pet indoors on Halloween night. The noise and excitement of Halloween can be stressful for some pets, and it's best to keep them inside in a safe and quiet environment.
Provide pet-safe alternatives

***"When giving your pet treats, be mindful of their diet. If they’re on a special diet, make sure the treats are appropriate. If you’re not sure, ask your vet."***
Our veterinarians and staff are here to help you ensure your pet's safety and well-being throughout the Halloween season.
⚠️If you suspect your pet has eaten chocolate or any other harmful substance, please contact a veterinary office immediately.⚠️

*National I.D your pet day*
🎆~July 4th is only a couple of days away~🎆
We cannot stress enough the importance of having proper identification for your furry friends. It can be a lifesaver in case they ever get lost or accidentally wander away from home. 🏠
🔑 ID tags and microchips are two vital forms of identification that every dog should have. Here's why:
1️⃣ ID Tags: These are physical tags that you can attach to your dog's collar. They typically include the pet's name, your contact information (phone number/address), and sometimes even medical information. In case your dog/ cat gets lost, someone who finds them can easily contact you and help reunite you with your pet.
There are multiple pet stores that allow you to buy them and engrave them right after purchase or you can get some for as low as $3 online. Amazon has a nice variety
2️⃣ Microchips: A microchip is a tiny electronic device, about the size of a grain of rice, that is implanted under your dog or cat's skin. It contains a unique identification number that can be scanned by a veterinarian or animal shelter. The microchip is linked to a database that has your contact information, making it easier to locate you if your pet is found. Microchips provide a permanent form of identification and can greatly increase the chances of being reunited with your pet. Here we use the "Home Again" microchips but many shelters will do them as well. If you are unsure if your pet has a chip you can stop in and we can scan your pet !
⭐⭐Remember, accidents happen, and even the most well-behaved pets can sometimes wander off or get lost. By ensuring your dog or cat has proper identification, you're taking a proactive step to keep them safe and increase the likelihood of a happy reunion if they ever go missing.⭐⭐
It is better to take precautions today than to suffer what

Valentine's Day is a time to celebrate love and affection, but it can also bring potential dangers for our furry friends. Here are some things to keep in mind to keep your pets safe.
SWEETS! Although delicious for humans, one of the biggest dangers of Valentine's Day for pets is the abundance of sweet treats and goodies. Chocolate🍫, especially dark chocolate, can be toxic to dogs and cats. Other candies and desserts may contain xylitol, an artificial sweetener that is extremely harmful to pets.
Flowers: Many flowers, such as lilies, tulips, and daisies, are toxic to pets if ingested. Keep bouquets out of reach
While it may be tempting to share your dinner with your pet, certain foods can be toxic to them. Stick to their regular diet and avoid sharing table scraps to help keep your pets bellies happy.

⭐The median return to owner rates for the shelters were 2.4 times higher for dogs with a microchip than all stray dogs (52.2% vs. 21.9%) and 21.4 times higher for cats with a microchip than all stray cats 38.5% vs. 1.8%.⭐

September is National pet insurance month! It's the perfect time for pet owners to consider getting coverage that can assist them in keeping four-legged family members safe and healthy. Pet insurance provides important protection against expensive medical bills if your pet becomes sick or injured.
Pet insurance plans typically cover a variety of treatments and procedures, including emergency and critical care, surgeries, cancer treatments, and even alternative therapies like acupuncture. you can get reimbursed for large, unexpected medical costs. Emergency vet visits and surgeries can add up quickly, and the nature of these visits means it's difficult to budget for them. Generally a $10,000 vet bill is a huge expense for many. The cost of pet insurance varies, depending on the coverage you choose. When your pet is still a puppy or a kitten, you can lock in lower rated for life. Before making a purchase, it is important to read the fine print and understand exactly what is covered. Many pet owners find it helpful to compare plans from multiple companies to find the plan that best meets their needs and budget.
Here is a link to compare plans from more than 20 providers, read reviews from other pet parents and get instant quotes.

🥰Today is National Dog Day🥰
August 26th, a day dedicated to celebrating man's best friend. Dogs are loyal and loving companions, and the unconditional love we share with our pups is beyond compare. Dogs provide us with companionship, love, and security. They show us how to live in the moment, and enjoy the little things in life. Dogs have an uncanny ability to sense our emotions and offer us comfort when we’re feeling down. Dogs are incredibly intelligent and intuitive animals. Many dog owners are able to communicate with their pups in ways that go far beyond barking, growling, and tail wagging. We owe the success of our relationship with our canine friends to the incredible devotion and loyalty they show us. Dogs are quick to forgive our mistakes, and they offer us unconditional love no matter what. On this National Dog Day, let’s take a moment to appreciate the incredible bond we share with our four-legged friends. Yes its national dog day, but dont want to leave out our cat family ! Cats provide just as much loyalty love and companionship. We would love to see some of your best dog friends if you want to post your pictures in the comments 🙂

It’s sweet corn season !!
Corn cobs are extremely dangerous to dogs as they are indigestible and more often than not cause an obstruction that requires surgery to save their life
