Greetings from the soggy bottom boys! Opening day of DMI is on for next Sunday Match 17 but, due to farm conditions, we will hold on Tom Sawyer Day and picnic until the grounds are drier. Pardon our winter dust as you return for lessons next Sunday. Our smiles will greet you all even if our boots may be muddy!

The countdown to the New Year is on and we'd love for you to celebrate with a tax deductible gift to Driving Magic. All gifts received by midnight December 31 will be tax deductible for the 2018 tax year. Your donation can be made on the Driving Magic website drivingmagic.org/donate.

This year, Driving Magic student and volunteer, Claire Tracey, would like to share her story:

It’s hard to put into words how Driving Magic has impacted my life. I joined Driving Magic as a student in 2004. We had just moved here from a small town in Mississippi. Having cerebral palsy my parents wanted to strengthen my right hand and my confidence because I was struggling with culture shock moving from a small town in Mississippi to Roswell. When I first started lessons with Mr. Matt I was shy and lacked self assurance. Having my lessons every Sunday was something I looked forward to every week. Over the years I was able to build up the strength in my right hand and really come out of my shell. I have not only made life long friendships that I will value forever but I was able to have confidence in myself again. Seeing how I was able to build my confidence up made me want to become a volunteer and help others feel the same way I did. Seeing the smile on each student's face at the end of their lessons is priceless. I now try and come out and volunteer whenever I can. I would like to think Mr. Matt and Mrs. Jennifer and all the other volunteers for not giving up on me in 2004 and believing in me.

Sincerely,
Claire Tracey

Many thanks to Claire and her family for believing in and supporting our mission since 2004!

In 2018, Driving Magic continued our mission of providing therapeutic recreation to people with special needs through individual carriage driving lessons and Magic Workshops at 680-acre host farm, Steadfast Farms. We welcomed many new students and celebrated with students who have attended the program for up to 14 years! We were also blessed with students like Claire, Tori and Charlie who now regularly volunteer, using skills they have learned over the years.

This , please consider donating on our website http://www.drivingmagic.org/how-you-can-help/donate/ or starting a fundraiser on your Facebook account with Driving Magic Inc as the beneficiary. Your contribution will directly support horse, instructional and volunteer expenses required to create magic moments for our students. A gift in any amount will help us advance and continue our programs. For example, $10 can purchase one tube of dewormer (we use 5 tubes every other month), $40 purchases one riding helmet, $54 pays for one Albuterol rescue inhaler, $105 pays for one month rent for an accessible restroom, $150 pays for one farrier visit for all DMI horses, $350 pays for blanketing one horse for the entire winter season.

Thank you in advance for contributing to Driving Magic this holiday season!

Many have been asking about Monkey, who has had some health issues since late last summer. After a bad bout of pneumonia and breathing not improving, it was time to go to college. On Friday, Monkey took a trip to UGA — all pneumonia gone, but discovery of equine asthma. He will have intensive treatment for 4-5 weeks then the prognosis is that he will be able to return to his students with a prescribed regimen of meds. The vet’s report was much longer and specific. Many thanks to Dr Scott and Dr Hart for their expertise and for helping defray some of the costs. Huge appreciation for Kathy Johnson for taking him to UGA and staying by his side, and to all of his Steadfast angels who care for him. One of the best parts...Monkey’s report stated “lovely boy” — very proud mommy for that report card!
