A Day of Ups and Downs at the Shelter

Today was a whirlwind of emotions at the shelter, with a constant flow of animals and a full house! We welcomed ONE stray dog, SIX surrendered dogs, ONE stray cat, ONE agency assist rabbit and ONE agency assist dog. With every kennel already full, we faced some tough decisions. Fortunately, the dogs we had to make decisions about were not adoptable. It's all still heartbreaking

Despite the challenges, there were some bright spots! We had one reclaim, and several rescue partners stepped up: Best Friends Animal Society pulled four dogs, Tri State Bassett Rescue pulled two dogs, and Cuddle Babies pulled one dog. We also celebrated two cat adoptions and five dog adoptions!

A Plea to Pet Owners❤️‍🔥

Our day was also filled with calls about various animals, including horses, chickens, and, alarmingly, dogs in hot cars. Please, never leave your pet in your vehicle, even if the windows are cracked or rolled down. If it's 99 degrees Fahrenheit outside, the temperature inside your car can quickly reach 115 degrees Fahrenheit or higher. If you need to go into a store or run errands, please leave your pet at home where they'll be safe.

How You Can Help

🫶We are currently in need of a few essential items:
* Chicken/all flock feed (for chickens, geese, guineas who are on court hold)
* Oscillating fans (for the dogs in the back kennels)
* Leashes
* Medium collars
* Turf to finish the play yard (Do you work at a school and they have left-over turf from the football/baseball/softball field whether it be in pieces or multi colors? We will gladly take it!!!?

We were also able to help six families today through our community pantry.

Tia

This scared, dainty little lady was abandoned off of Whittington Avenue over a week ago.

She's scared because: she's deaf and she only has vision in one eye. Can you imagine? She is very loving once she realizes you are there to be her friend. Tia weighs in at 27 pounds and is around 7-8 years old.

Do you have a nice, calm place for this little lady? Please come save her now if you do. She will need time to decompress and realize she is SAFE.

We are located at 319 Davidson Drive and are open 10 AM until 5 PM. She is in kennel 37 waiting on someone to save her from the silence, to save her from the pain of being abandoned.

One of our absolute FAVORITES!

This here is Jett. He will have to be adopted through one of our 501c3 partners. He is special to us because he is just a big, happy lover boy.

He is 3-4 years old very smart and full of wiggles and slobbery kisses.

We are located at 319 Davidson Drive and are open 10 AM until 5 PM.
