At the All Pet Center Animal Hospital & Emergency Clinic, we understand that veterinary care can be expensive or out-of-reach for many people. With that being said, we are excited to announce our partnership with the myBalto Foundation! Our partnership has allowed our hospital to have our very own "Angel Fund" to provide veterinary care to individuals that could not afford care under conventional means. In the following months, we will be creating many exciting fundraising agendas to allow for us to support this cause and serve our community to the highest extent we can.

For more information on the myBalto Foundation or to make a donation, scan the QR code listed in the image or visit our donation site at the domain listed below.

HYPERTHYROIDISM
Hyperthyroidism is an endocrine disease that affects middle-aged and older cats. It is most commonly caused by benign growths on the thyroid gland that increase its size and function, leading to an increase in the concentration of thyroid gland hormones.

Signs of hyperthyroidism in cats include:

Excessive amounts of energy
Increased appetite
Weight loss
Restlessness
A veterinarian will order lab tests to diagnose hyperthyroidism. The right treatment can reduce functioning thyroid hormone levels and help cats live a healthy, normal life.
If you suspect your cat has any of these symptoms do not hesitate to call the All Pet Center at (501)-625-3418!

Generally, a cat weighing 20% more than their ideal weight is considered obese. Feline obesity shortens a cat’s lifespan and makes them more susceptible to diseases and health conditions including:

Diabetes
Joint problems
Cancer
Heart disease

If you are concerned that your cat may be obese, contact All Pet Center at (501)-625-3418! Dr. Bob will determine an ideal weight goal based on your cat’s overall health and recommend a new diet plan to help them shed some pounds.

FELINE LEUKEMIA VIRUS (FELV)

FeLV is a cancer-causing retrovirus that is spread through cats’ saliva, blood, f***s or urine. Alley Cat Allies reports that most cats get FeLV from their infected mothers at birth or through contact with other cats, such as through mutual grooming. FeLV can weaken the immune system and cause severe anemia, making the cat vulnerable to other diseases.

Symptoms on FeLV include:

Seizures or neurological disorders
Various eye conditions
Persistent diarrhea
Persistent fever
Skin, urinary or respiratory infections
Weight loss
Loss of appetite
FeLV can cause leukemia, lymphoma and infertility. Although there is no cure for FeLV, cats can live long healthy lives with the proper treatment.

FELINE IMMUNODEFICIENCY VIRUS (FIV)

As the name indicates, FIV is a disease that compromises a cat’s immune system, leaving them vulnerable to additional infections or illnesses. Since FIV is most commonly passed from cat to cat through bite wounds, outdoor male cats who get into fights are most likely to develop the virus.

FIV is diagnosed through bloodwork. There’s no cure for FIV, but infected cats can live normal lives if the condition is managed properly. FIV often goes undetected and affected cats may not experience symptoms until years after infection. Symptoms may progress as the cat ages and can include:

Gingivitis
Loss of appetite
Poor coat condition
Fever
Chronic or recurring infections

What Is a Urinary Tract Blockage in Cats?
The medical term for urinary tract blockage is urethral obstruction, since the urethra is the portion of the urinary tract where the blockage has occurred. You may also hear it referred to as a “blocked cat.” Regardless of the term used, a urinary tract blockage means your pet can’t empty their bladder.

In a normal cat anatomy, urine is produced in the two kidneys and travels down their respective tubes (ureters) to the bladder. When a pet is ready to urinate, the urine travels from the bladder down a single tube (urethra), through the p***s in males and v***a in females, to the outside. Urinary blockage occurs most commonly in male cats because the male urethra is skinnier than the female one and more prone to blockage.

This blockage can result in life-threatening consequences such as dangerous electrolyte abnormalities, which can affect the heart and cause kidney failure and bladder rupture

If you notice your cat straining to urinate call the All Pet Center immediately at (501)-625-3418!

In honor of Pet Dental Health Month we would like to advised you that here at the All Pet Center we are offering 5% off if you bring in one pet and 10% if your bring more than one!

Did you know here at the All Pet Center when we do dentals we don't put any dogs or cats under anesthesia? As a safety precaution especially for older pets. Dentals are done with pets lightly sedated, so they aren't uncomfortable in any way.
Dental disease, especially when it's severe, can be quite painful for dogs and cats. Keeping your pets teeth and gums healthy will help prevent oral pain. Also preventing possible further damage such as organ damage. Bacteria in the plaque can enter the bloodstream and spread to the heart, kidneys and liver.
Routine dentals also help your pets with bad breath. Call us at 501-625-3418 and we can get you scheduled!
