This allows our committee to review your application, and if approved, we will contact you to schedule an appointment to visit all of our adoptable cats and dogs. You can call your town office to find out which shelter your town contracts with. Currently, our shelter services the following towns: Amity, Dyer Brook, Glenwood, Hammond, Haynesville, Hersey, Houlton, Linneus, Littleton, Macwahoc, Monticello, Moro, New Limerick, Orient, Patten, Reed Plt, and Weston.

📢 How to encourage an outdoor cat to use a shelter...

In most cases, cats will figure out how to use shelters on their own. Here are a few things you can do to attract them if it doesn't seem like your cats are using the shelter:

▪️ Be patient. Some cats need a lot of time to get comfortable with a new shelter.
▪️ Loosely fill the shelter ½ to ¾ full of straw, NOT HAY. Replace the straw every year.
▪️ Remove any door flaps on the shelter. While doorway flaps help keep cold air out and warm air in, they should not be added until after your cats are used to going in and out of the shelter.
▪️ Do not place food in or near the shelter. Cats instinctively avoid sleeping near food as it attracts other cats and wildlife (predators).
▪️ Location is important. Place the shelter where your cats are already hanging out. More feral/less social cats typically want to shelter farther away from humans. The more secluded the shelter, the more likely cats are to use it.
▪️ Place the shelter near natural cover, as opposed to out in the open where your cats may not feel safe. Cats prefer to move along walls, hedges, or other natural barriers and boundaries. Place the shelter under or up against a building, fence, tree, porch, bush, or some type of overhang.
▪️ Place the shelter with the entrance facing away from the wind, rain, and snow.
▪️ Make sure the shelter is on a flat surface. A wobbly shelter could discourage cats from entering.
▪️ It’s possible that your cats have another shelter where they feel safe. They may already have a shed, crawlspace, or some other shelter they prefer.
▪️ When all else fails, try a new location, but only after giving your cats plenty of time to explore and get used to the current location.

Re*****on has been missing from Partridge Lane by Rt 1 in Weston since yesterday. She is a 2.5 year old 60 lb red Labradoodle - microchipped and wearing an orange harness and last seen dragging her leash. Re*****on is a friendly girl - but we ask if you spot her DO NOT CHASE HER!

Here are pictures of two of the three feral/community cats we were able to trap with help of their caretakers.
They are vaccinated, altered, ear tipped, and one even had a loose tooth removed and a cleaning to ensure good health going forward. We love our traveling vets to ensure every life deserves the best care possible ♥️♥️

Some kennels may have two per kennel, but please know this is only a portion of the animals in our care. This kitty is so flea infested that the poor thing couldn’t stop scratching and biting it self. We gave it a cap star with in minutes flea started falling of and dying. Please flea treat your animals it’s so important for many reasons.

Adorable Kitten Playing! This sweet kitten and her mom tested positive for FIV, but that doesn’t stop them from being full of love and playfulness. Both deserve a loving family that understands FIV is not a death sentence. With proper care, they can live long, healthy lives. We’re seeking a family willing to adopt both mom and her beautiful baby.
