Guys, we are temporarily out of cat shelters at this time. We are hoping to get more coolers in soon. If you have any leads on where we can get coolers NO SMALLER THAN 18” x 15” x 18”, please let us know?

It’s getting cold and thanks to our volunteers Janie and David, we now have more outside cat shelters! They are free (a small donation is encouraged to cover materials) and are outside our front door in the vestibule. I will be putting a few out at a time to ensure they are equally distributed to those who need them. We will continue to make them as long as we can find appropriate coolers.

Thank you everyone who took advantage of our Winter closing sale. To clarify your questions, we are ONLY closing for a couple of months. We are in a slightly remote location and don’t have much business during the winter, most of our thrift store volunteers live “off the beaten path” and I don’t want to risk any of them fighting the elements. Have I mentioned we are unpaid volunteers? We will STILL have our pet food distributions the 3rd Sunday of every month from 10-12. Everyone enjoy the Holidays and stay safe.

Today was our last pet food distribution of 2023. We had tables of free, collars, leashes, dog/cat toys, harnesses and more. Santa and Mrs. Clause came by to bring some Christmas Spirit to our pantry members and volunteers. Afterwards we had our Volunteer Christmas party. Thank you everyone for supporting our pantry and special thanks to our volunteers who work so hard.

Tomorrow is our pet food distribution. If you need pet food or spay/neuter services, you MUST provide a photo ID, proof of low income (in paper form), Social Security, Disability, SNAP, Unemployment, proof of residency (etc.). If your pets are already spay/neutered, please bring a copy of your vet records. Thank you, Cub Scout Pack 416, Imperial, MO for doing such an amazing job making 11 outside cat shelters for our pantry. We were completely out and appreciate your hard work. I got a chance to give these fine young men a tour of our facility and explain what we do for our community. You guys just saved several outside cats from the Winter elements. BRAVO!!

What an amazing and emotional day! Friend/volunteer Janie and I delivered pet food and all the donations for our *Elder Orphans* fundraiser. We can’t thank everyone one enough for your monetary and gift card donations. You brought back faith in humanity and gave joy, plus a sense of relief to these wonderful, deserving people. Each recipient received a $400 check, $100 cash, $85 Walmart cards, $40 QT cards, $15 McDonalds, $15 Schnucks (for 2) and $20 Dollar General (for 2). That’s $2,690 worth of LOVE! We took pictures but covered the faces. THANK YOU ALL!!

This year our pantry has decided to adopt 4 “Elder Orphans” as opposed to families. We chose these 4 individuals because we know most are disconnected from their families and will be spending the Holidays alone. All are disabled, all care for multiple animals, all live meager lives and some are facing foreclosure. Every one of them are kind and extremely grateful for anything they receive. We need your help to make this happen. This is NOT for the pantry; this is for THEM. They spend everything on their pets and nothing on themselves. We would like to collect gift cards from various places and present them before Christmas. Since they all reside in rural areas, we will be collecting gift cards for/to: MC/Visa, Gas Cards (especially Phillips, QT, Shell, BP) Dollar General, Walmart, Dollar Tree, Aldi, Schnucks, (etc.). We want them to be able to purchase, gas, groceries or any supplies they might need without the stress. You can drop off or mail the cards to JCPFP 4150 Old State Rd M, House Springs, MO 63051. Our thrift store will be closed December 24th, 2023, through March 7th, 2024. Our pet food distributions will STILL be the 3rd Sunday of every month from 10-12 (December 17th, January 21st, February 18th, March 17th, etc.). Phone calls, emails and private messages will be answered when available. We’ve had a busy year and need some time to relax, after all we are volunteers.

13 years ago, I started this pantry with the intention to keep companion animals with their owners (keeping them from being rehomed or relinquished to a shelter). Several years later we saw the need to help feral cat caretakers. We have rules and guidelines. If you sign up for our program, you CANNOT acquire any more animals (feral cats are an exception, but you must work with getting the cats in your colony fixed). We understand people die or go into nursing homes and we will work with you on that scenario. Actively acquiring a free/cheap puppy/kitten and expecting us to provide free food, spay and neuter is NOT acceptable, that’s on you. Also, if you come in during thrift store hours telling us you are out of pet food, then turn around and spend $30 to $60 on yourself, you are just trying to work the system and have no business being a pet owner!! Rant over.

We are thrilled to have Mrs. Patterson’s students from Seckman High School back at our pantry to volunteer! These young men and women are so enthusiastic and help us out a lot. Today they went through donations from our friends at Petco - Arnold 1624 and Pet Supplies Plus - Concord, MO. This is a daunting task separating dog/cat toys, treats, canned and packaged food while checking expiration dates. Welcome back, kiddos!!
