Izzys story is not what you have seen in some “feel good” type articles. She was a Dog suffering from the worst of people that crossed a 4 lane highway to beg for food. The people of her community asked for her and when the aco showed up the police had released her back to the brutal owner she had that was starving her. Izzy was used as a breeding dog at best, at worst her pictures tell the story. After days of trying and a force from the community to find this baby... aco was able to secure her along with 4 puppies. A starving mom. She was transported to safety, or so she thought. She was then placed in a kennel with 4 starving babies. While 12 other dogs Howled. Izzy was starving
A week after she and her babies arrived the smallest puppy that was colder than the others went missing. Volunteers at the shelter offered heating pads and sanctuary for all of them.
Izzy was examined and the small country vet determined she ate her puppy. She was taken back to her kennel and her remaining puppies were taken from their mama.
Izzy searched for them constantly she dug at the concrete, and chewed at the walls until her already existing wounds were worsened. All the while she was on hold for some reason(supposedly a nonexistent court case). Then a rescue came and took her babies. Izzy was not so lucky.
She loved the volunteers that came for her, they doted on her, cared for her and showed her love for likely the first time in her life. Izzy had every reason to not be the sweet, loving, affectionate girl she was then and still is today.
While Izzy’s puppies were becoming adoptable and taken to local events by the rescue who saved them, Izzy was struggling desperately in distress. Her truest advocate and friend, a dedicated volunteer at the shelter shared her story and sent out a plea 🆘 for a rescue to please get her out of the shelter and into a foster home to decompress and be cared for since she was not adoptable due to the “hold”. I reached out to the volunteer after seeing her post and recognizing sweet Izzy’s face weeks before. It was a frustrating, and relentless process to find her placement. We were not able to coordinate a rescue with foster still, even when one finally tagged her, a communication breakdown between the shelter and rescue it just never seemed to work. Finally I found a couple who had commented back on her original post when found in Dec at that General Dollar Store and saw them repeatedly inquiring about her status on following posts. They adopted Izzy directly from the shelter (?magic hold lifted, as her audience grew?) with the most genuine, and loving intentions by the adopters.
Izzy needs a new home asap! She cannot live with a cat(s). She really seems to enjoy canine companionship, however the dynamic of the pack in the home is not compatible to what Izzy needs. She has endured way too much already and needs help to build confidence and teach her boundaries alongside of dogs that are able to give her the space to do so. Izzy will thrive with consistent structure, routine and boundaries in place either as the only dog or with a low key (ideally) male. She is not a dog aggressive dog, but she is defensive, and that is how she has survived so far. She has had a lot of traumatic experiences and needs a confident handler to guide her through yet another transition. She is a total Velcro, affectionate and lap loving dog. In her current home their has been traumatic incidents between Izzy and the other dogs yet by the next day she cuddles up with one of them on her Dads lap. She just needs someone to give her a chance to ease into things, and give her the support needed to gain confidence. ‼️PLEASE 🙏🏻 HELP US, HELP HER she will not survive in a shelter again‼️ Candie Whitus
