We’re excited to announce that our clinic is switching to a new online pharmacy: Vetcove!

It’s the same place Dr. Pelton orders all of our medications and supplies for the clinic, now available for you -- with great prices, fast shipping, and guaranteed products. I have been waiting for this type of integration for a long time and I think they did a really fantastic job.

You can still use Vetsource for a little while, but we’ll be moving fully to Vetcove soon.

If you have any autoships set up in Vetsource you should be getting email(s) instructions with how to transition over easily.

This is Shadow… and this is the $4,000 bone that almost killed her 😳🐾

Shadow is a sweet 1 year and 7 month old pup who came in Thursday after her owners noticed she was just a little off. By Friday morning, she had whined a bit and vomited once but was otherwise acting fine.

When I examined her, everything seemed normal. No fever, no pain, tail wagging, bright and alert. But since she’s young and had vomited, I suggested we take X-rays just to be safe, especially since her owners weren’t completely sure she hadn’t gotten into something.

And wow… it’s a good thing we did.

Her X-rays showed a large solid object completely stuck in her lower esophagus. It didn’t move at all, even after a few hours. After consulting with the radiologist, we referred her to Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) for an endoscopy so they could see what it was and hopefully remove it.

Sure enough, they found the culprit — a big piece of pork bone she must’ve grabbed from the trash. It was wedged tightly and had already started irritating the lining of her esophagus. If they had waited even a few more days, it could have been fatal as it began to eat through the esophagus and leak into the chest.

Thankfully, VEG was able to scope it out safely and Shadow went home the same day. She’s doing great and feeling so much better.

This is a perfect example of why we sometimes recommend doing diagnostics like X-rays. It’s not because we’re trying to “run up a bill” like you sometimes see people saying online. It’s because you just never know when your pet might be that one in a hundred with something serious going on that doesn’t look obvious on the surface.

Yes, in the end it turned out to be a $4,000 bone, but it also turned out to be a life-saving decision.

We’re so happy for Shadow and her family — and thankful for a happy ending.
