Important Pet Safety Info!!!
Please share with friends, family and neighbors! 🐾🧨
Please, please, please keep your pets indoors during the firework shows and AFTER!!! Random fireworks and gunshots can sometimes be heard throughout the night and are responsible for hundreds of pets going missing each year in Houston.
Most pets are terrified of the noise and will do anything to get away from the loud, scary sounds. Anything!!! Dogs are known to break through and jump fences, bolt through doors cracked open, etc...
More dogs go missing on the 4th of July and NYE than any other days during the year.
It's extremely important that your pets are wearing collars with ID tags and if they are chipped, make sure you have taken the time to register the microchip with your current address and phone number. Many people get their animals chipped and forget to register them afterwards. Don't assume your vet, breeder or shelter has done this for you! Chips can migrate and are sadly not always detected, so pets must wear identification!
NYE is NOT the night to remove your pet's collar!!!
If you see a dog on the loose, please don't assume it's going to just find its way home...dogs are known to run for miles and miles on nights like this and sheer adrenaline can send street savvy dogs running for their lives and straight into traffic.
Never allow your pet to go near fireworks and yes, this includes sparklers.
Also:
Please remember to put ID tags on your pets’ collars with your address and cell phone #. A home number doesn’t help if you aren’t home! Home # can be listed as back-up.
Don’t forget to periodically check the tags to see if your contact info has rubbed off, it happens! I’ve found several dogs with tags that are completely rubbed off. Sometimes I can only see the dog’s name.
Microchipping is equally important but please don’t rely on just microchips! Many people don’t know or won’t bother to scan for a chip, which means you may never see your pet again!
Don’t forget to register the microchip afterwards! The chip company needs to know your name, address and several phone numbers in case someone finds your pet.
This is especially important over the holidays, since so many of you will be leaving town and relying on pet sitters and boarding facilities. Or taking your pets with you to places they are unfamiliar with. Losing a pet while on vacation would be a nightmare. Accidents happen and you need to be prepared.
