DJay is about 3 years and 2 months old and LOVES to play! This boy has been waiting for a home of his own for years!

He is a cuddle bug and loves to be on a lap. He is obsessed with toys and loves playing with his friend Layla (who is also looking for a home). He does best with pups more his size but also wouldn’t mind being the only one getting all of the attention. 😊 DJay loves kids, but needs supervision as he gets excited and may jump. He’s an outdoor fanatic so a yard would be nice to run and play! He doesn’t like cats🐈‍⬛. So needs a home with no cats.

We never know the full story of a dog before we take them in, we are often given snippets of info. DJay had broken his front leg prior to being rescued that healed improperly. Vets determined it was best to leave it since it doesn’t bother him. Based on his cropped ears, we have some guesses but that past is now behind him and he would love to find his forever home 🏡

DJAy is currently in boarding in TX. No life for a pup. It will be an adjustment to learn the house rules but he wants to please. DJay is looking for either a foster in TX or a forever home in CT, ME, NH, VT, NY, NJ, or TX.

For anyone who has been following SOT for awhile, you may remember us posting about this sweet mama. She’s been with the rescue since our early years. She is really hoping to have a forever home of her own.

Andrea, is a 5 year old German Shepherd mix who had a rough start prior to being rescued by SOT. Andrea had been hit by a car and was found on the side of the road with her litter of puppies (Who became the 90210 litter-Brenda, Kelly, Donna, Dylan, & David). All were adopted in February 2021.

Andrea has had double FHO surgery and was evaluated at Texas A&M to see if any additional surgery was needed. Due to having the double FHO surgery they felt that no other surgery would be beneficial.

Andrea loves her leash lead walks and playtime involving a ball. She loves fetch! Because of her surgeries she needs activities to keep her hind muscles toned. Jogging, swimming, playtime, would all be wonderful for her!! She is an alpha for sure and would do best in a home with no kitty’s and either as an only dog or with a dog that is not an alpha. She’s a queen bee, and she knows it. She is very affectionate, and very kid friendly ❤️ Andrea is also house trained.

Andrea is currently being fostered in TX. Do to not wanting to make her hips ache by being crated during transport north, we would love for her to have a TX adoption. Of course, if Andrea is the perfect fit for your family, SOT would certainly consider alternative options for her transfer out of state.

We need an adopter for Chantilly (Tilly) in ME, NH, VT, CT or NY! She is a 10 month old lab mix, fully vaccinated and spayed! She is currently fostered in VT.

Both Chantilly and her sister, Lace, were rescued by an amazing veterinarian in Houston, TX. Lace has been adopted by an amazing family but poor Tilly is still looking. Tilly really wants to be in her forever home before the holidays.

Foster’s notes:
Tilly is a sweet girl. She seems to enjoy her crate, often going in on her own. Tilly has been very playful with dogs and good with the cats in her foster homes. She's been doing better with becoming housebroken. She has learned “sit” and “down” and is very good with corrections. She is learning not to be mouthy when petted and is doing well around the cats and livestock. She loves to be petted and to play fetch. Tilly likes to hoard all the toys and bones in her crate but she shows no resource guarding when you unload her stash! 😂

Coach Beard is still hoping to “kick” back with his new family this summer. ⚽️

“Coachie (Coach Beard) is such a sweet pup! He can be a little shy/timid in new situations but is a sucker for a little sweet talk. Whether its new people or new places, he’ll take his lead from you. He is the absolute best snuggler. Loves nothing more then curling up next to you. He goes crazy for a nice stuffie that squeaks. He’s not a big fan of playing ball but will chase a toy when thrown. Coachie is such a mellow pup. Plays well with both my two large dogs. He has been with us for over a week and has yet to have an accident inside the house. He does amazing in his crate and goes in easily. He is sleeping through the night in his crate. He was in his first foster home for 5 weeks. While he was there he was starting to show a little too much interest in their cat and needed to be removed. Do to this he would be better in a home without a cat. You can’t ask for a better pup.”

Coach Beard was part of our Ted Lasso Litter. 17 week old, shepherd mixes. Both him and his sister, Rebecca Whelton, were part of a litter of 11 pups that were brought to a vaccination clinic in Cleveland, TX. Owner had an unwanted litter and was looking for assistance with getting the puppies secured with rescue and getting mom spayed. Both Straight Outta Texas and another rescue stepped up to secure these pups. Mom has gotten spayed.

Coach Beard is currently being fostered in New England and is looking for his forever home in CT, ME, NH, & VT.

Rebecca Whelton is a true “keeper”. ⚽️

“Roo (Rebecca) is such a sweetie! She has the cutest face and the most adorable ears!! Prettiest reddish color coat which is getting softer as she gets older. Her cute little nub tail is so adorable and just adds to her personality She gets along well with my 2 bigger dogs and can play hard when they all get running around. She loves to play ball! She is great at getting the ball when you throw it but instead of bringing it back she likes to run around with it in her mouth. She likes to take her toys into her crate but will share a toy with my dogs. She’s great with the crate! (That should be a bumper sticker!) she will go in when you say ‘crate’ or ‘bed’. I do give her a treat for going in. She sleeps all night but is an early riser along with my dogs. She does like to snuggle at night when it’s time to settle down. Everyone we meet comments on her personality and how well tempered she is. She does do the occasional bark at a new dog but once she is introduced she’s ‘all play’. We are working on walking on leash and she’s coming along well. She is Potty trained but remember she is still a puppy so still needs to go out often. I love this girl and if I didn’t already have 2 dogs I’d adopt her. Oh as to cats? She’s afraid of mine and mine is 16 lol”

Chantilly is a 7 month old, lab/shepherd mix. She is fully vetted, microchipped and spayed. Both her and her sister, Lace, were rescued by an amazing veterinarian in Houston, TX. She reached out to SOT to get them placed with amazing families. Both Chantilly & Lace are very dog friendly and extremely people friendly. Both have been in foster homes with cats and are curious but aren’t mean.

🆘We are in DIRE need of fosters in CT & VT in New England, as well as in the Houston, TX area. ‼️

As a small rescue, we have no physical facility and rely on fosters to provide a loving home. Without fosters we cannot continue to rescue dogs. ‼️

❓You ask what is involved in becoming a foster???? LOVE, patience and a warm place for the pup(s) to temporarily call home. The rescue pays for all vetting, food, etc while in foster care.

❓How long is the foster commitment??? Typically 4 weeks for puppies and sometimes longer for the adults. Unfortunately, there is no exact science. It all depends on how quickly pups get adopted. It is also great to have temp fosters that can cover in cases of emergency or vacations for our current fosters.

❓Isn’t it hard to give them up???? Sometimes it is hard because they settle into your life and your heart but it makes it worth it to know that you helped to save that dog's life. Rescues cannot save dogs' lives without fosters!

🐕Dogs that are left in kill shelters due to lack of fosters are euthanized.

🐾For those dog lovers out there who are feeling the economic hardship of the current economy, this is a way of having a temporary playmate for your pup. For those without a pup currently, this gives you a chance to have the companionship of having a temporary pup with no out-of-pocket expenses. For those that have children that are "so bored" over the summer or you want to show them the responsibility of what taking care of a pup entails, THIS IS THE PERFECT SCENARIO!!

"Saving one dog will not change the world, but surely for that one dog, the world will change forever." - Karen Davison

Here is what some of our fosters had to say about why they choose to foster:

“At that time we weren’t ready to add another pup to our family as we just adopted a rescue puppy. It’s a short term commitment, anywhere from an overnight to a few weeks (sometimes longer depending on circumstances). AND I was able to choose the kind of pup that would best fit with my current dog and family dynamics! Win Win! I also have to say it’s a great experience for my dog as well. She learned how to ’share’ and she showed the foster pups (most of which came from very sad conditions) how to ‘dog'. ”- Val

“I can't adopt all the dogs so I foster to help them find their home. ♥” Terri

“To save even one life is an enormous sense of gratification. In the similar words of Tia Maria Torres, I foster now in hopes that someday I won’t have to!” Denise

“I foster because I like helping anyone that’s in need whether it’s an animal or a person. You’re doing a good thing for an animal that needs it. It’s a great feeling to give them the best life you can until they’re ready to go to their forever home. I hope one day to be able to adopt, but for now, fostering is just as rewarding.” Taylor

“I foster to help unite a dog that needs a chance at life with a family that will create lifelong memories. A lot of people comment that they couldn’t foster and wouldn’t be able to give them up. For every dog I foster, a spot is opened in a shelter and a dog can be taken off the streets or out of a bad situation. Seeing the smiles of a family hugging their new four legged friend and the tail wags on the puppy make it all worthwhile. You change not only the dog's life but the family who now gets unconditional love from their newest family member.” Shannon

"I foster because I like to help the dogs transition from unstable and scary lives to being loved and cherished!" Clara

Chantilly & Lace are 6 month old, lab/shepherd mixes. Both are fully vetted, microchipped and spayed. They were rescued by an amazing veterinarian in Houston, TX. She reached out to SOT to get them placed with amazing families. Both Chantilly & Lace are very dog friendly and extremely people friendly. Both have been in foster homes with cats and are curious but aren’t mean.

Chantilly or Tilly’s foster had this to say about her: “she has lots of puppy energy and loves to run outdoor with my other foster. Tilly would definitely benefit from having another pup in the home.”

Lace’s foster had this to say: “Lace is a high energy, very affectionate pup. She loves to run and play with her foster siblings, but will also lay on the couch chewing her bone for long periods of time. She would do very well with another dog to play with, or somebody who can get her out for exercise. Lace does have some anxiety about being in her crate, she prefers to be cuddled up with her humans or foster siblings. She is really a very sweet pup, well -behaved pup.”

They are currently being fostered in New England and are looking for her forever home in CT, ME, NH, or VT.

💔Another returnee, Rosie, is hoping that she’ll be back in a family home soon.

Rosie was adopted out in July of 2020 from Straight Outta Texas. She’s been in a home with a family with other dogs and small children. Due to their living situation changing, her family was no longer able to have a dog.

What was Rosie to do???? Well Straight Outta Texas stepped up to place Rosie into an amazing foster home until a new adopter can be found.

Rosie is a 3.5 year old, spayed female, red pittie mix. She is potty trained and very well crate trained. She currently sleeps in a crate in her foster home but likely would be thrilled to snuggle up with her family at night. She knows commands like sit, down, come, heel, and off.

Rosie is currently a little over weight and needs to loose a few pounds. She would do well in a home where she will give her daily exercise. She’s overall a pretty mellow dog that enjoys lounging and napping. She will get up and follow her humans but is easily redirected. In her current foster home she displays no signs of toy or food aggression. She is learning to walk on leash without pulling.

Rosie is currently being fostered in New England and is looking for her forever home in CT, ME, NH, or VT.
