German Shepherd abandoned by owner - dog is located outside of unit no food or, water/dog seems to very weak and has diarrhea.

📝 𝗩𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀:

Poor Cali ☹️ she’s just a big pup, and has already been failed terribly once in her life, so I’m really hoping a rescue can scoop her up and place her in the best home this time. She was friendly and quiet in the kennel, and showed me she knows “sit”. She’s in the sick ward and wasn’t feeling the best on intake it sounds like, but she’s had meds and a few days of regular meals, and was in good spirits Monday! I was surprised at how chill she is, especially given her age. Hopefuly if she makes it out, she feels better soon, and more of her personality will show. She leashed up easy and greeted dogs down the ward with curious sniffs and tail wags. She was treat motivated, but was most focused on getting human affection. It’s so sad to see how deprived she is of love. She just melted into Amber for snuggles. I pray someone helps her!

Lobo was surrendered as a euth request at only 3 years old. He’s sooooo skinny. I wish I knew more about his background and what he’s endured to this point. Regardless, he’s super friendly. This boy has some notes about being vocal when in the kennel but when I came up to the door he was quiet (see video). This boy did great walking by the kennels and was very easy to walk on the leash. Outside in the kennel he was interested in the treats and showed me his good boy sit. Honestly I think this smart boy is just very bored in his kennel. He is really eager to please and would be easy to train. He sits so still for photos. Super great boy!

📝 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀:
12/16 - Approaching kennel, Lobo has relaxed body language standing near kennel door. I opened the kennel leashing him and
he walked out the kennel. He walked loosely as I took him outside and placed him in a run.

12/19 - Lobo was very vocal throughout the day; when passing his kennel with or without a dog, when in a run while I was getting other dogs. He walked with a loose leash, ears back, circling around me and tail swaying. Knows sit.

📝 𝗩𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀:
Randy Orton is such a chill boy. He’s so easy to walk on the leash because he stays right next to my side. Today we came to pass out Christmas gifts to the shelter dogs and this boy loved his new stuffed cow. He showed it off with so much pride (see video). Outside we met another dog and Randy did great. We sat in the grass and he let me give him pets. This boy had some goopy eyes but he didn’t seem to be bothered. He just wanted some love and attention. I love these chill, even tempered boys. He really just needs a couch to relax on and a yard to call him own.

📝 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀:
12/21 - Randy was standing relax in the kennel when I approached, he walked on a semi-loose leash, easy to handle on his way
out to the run, but he was really vocal in run, he looked more excited ob his way back to adoption jumping on my body several times, treats could make him acted a bit better.

12/22 - Randy lie down on the bed when I approach, easy to leash, walked next to me with a loose leash, on his way back he walked with a semi-loose leash, he is a bit vocal in the run but good in the kennel.

💜 𝗩𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀: I truthfully don’t know that I’ve ever seen anything cuter than this fat, rolly polly puppy cuddling with her mom. Puppies and mom are GORGINAAAAA, they all have her eyes! Mom was very relaxed, taking treats from my hand, and her puppies were the tiniest bit timid but knew how cute they were. They do have sarcops but weren’t itchy.

📝 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀: We have a mom dog that came in with three puppies that skin scraped positive for sarcops. Mom’s skin scrape had no sufficient findings, but she does have irritated skin all over. All are available now. If you can help them, they must be tagged by 1pm 12-26-2024. They will be on the euth list for Thursday 12-26-2024.

💜 𝗩𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀: Sweet and quiet mom is doing a good job with her chonkers! She was laying down nursing when I approached and I begged her not to get up but she did anyway for some treats and tail wags. Very easy girl with some impressive ears. She has one pup with some derm on his head but otherwise they’re happy and healthy and walking around like little newborn giraffes. She had no issues with me loving on them.

📝 𝗩𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀:
Mami is the only dog I specifically came to see today and get more photos and videos. I’ve seen her at the shelter for a week now and she’s the absolute friendliest girl and best mom. She’s 100% tail wags and kisses all the time. We’ve done a few temp tests on other dogs and I wouldn’t typically use a nursing mom but she’s just so friendly that I know she’ll be fine with the other dogs. Mami gets up from her puppies to greet everyone at the kennel door. She has no issues with me touching her babies (who are also super friendly and wagging constantly). Walking outside several staff members and volunteers commented how much they love her. This girl is super skinny. Her notes say that she was found chained up. This poor mom has young puppies and she wasn’t even able to move around to find food. She’s barely producing milk because she’s so underweight. Fortunately, her babies are healthy. This mama is eager to do tricks and get treats. I worry that she’ll get left behind and her puppies adopted out because she’s HW+. No mama left behind!

📝 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀:
12/15: at back of kennel when I approached when I showed her leash she approached quickly, leashed easily. Walked on a loose leash. Highly treat motivated.

aren't sure if she is producing as to how thin she is. Puppies are BAR and around 3 weeks. They do have teeth and can be supplemented with canned puppy food if needed. On tech eval to make sure she is feeding her puppies and getting extra kibble. Unsure if lactating as she was really worked up in back intake.

12/14: Mom dog was sitting down still while her puppies moved in towards her and began to nurse. She had an empty food bin, so I added another scoop of food. She walked towards it and started eating.

Previous note about derm and no tx needed. Has several raw spots on her chest with scabbing so placing vet eval to re-evaluate just in case.

Okay who wants 82lbs of mush in their life?! I love Puzzle, in case you can’t tell by the million pics 😭 If you follow the dogs I post closely, you know I mostly meet females - no particular reason, they just draw me in more at BARC. So when I occasionally say I love a boy, I LOVE them okay. He was hanging out 2 other dogs at Melrose Park - not sure if they were dumped or not, but they were fixed, HW-, well fed, and seemed owned. Unfortunately one was hit by a car and his friend (Carly) was on the list earlier this month, and was lucky enough to make it out with a rescue. This big boy is only on the list for length of stay - he’s been a perfect quiet gentlemen and has great staff notes. Staff adores him. He’s always lounging in his kennel, just looking around with his cute worried eyebrows. We temp tested him even though we had seen content of him with other dogs, and he did great. Super polite guy, even with a very forward playful momma. He was shaking his head quite a bit, so he might need checked out for a possible ear infection. Other than that, he’s ready to go! I’m praying someone steps up for him.

I LOVE Azalea. My current fave dog at BARC 🥲 When I walked past her, she starting wagging her tail in between her legs. I leashed her up and that’s when I realized how adorable her body is, she’s kinda short - the cutest mini shep I’ve ever seen! She saw another dog and immediately started wiggling her whole butt and playbowing. Please watch the videos, because words can’t explain how cute she was on her temp tests. She’s definitely going to need some dog friends to romp around with! She went potty outside, walked well on leash, and is noted to be quiet and calm in her kennel. She’s sweet & affectionate, and did the funniest one eared head tilt when I babytalked her. She was so well behaved for her age. She came in chipped, already spayed, and is HW-, so she was definitely owned, and is likely used to being in a home. She’s only on the list for length of stay. This girl is amazing!! Sweet senior Patches is a chill girl that does a very relaxed tail wag. She’s super friendly and easy to walk on the leash. Kalisee was put in boarding by an independent street feeder. The boarding facility shut down and the dogs were surrendered to BARC. This poor girl lost 23lbs while in their care, and had a uti. 😭 She has been failed and deserves to be truly rescued. She has rescue interest, but needs a foster. Please message us if you can help!

This girl was my favorite today! She’s sweet and spunky! This girl has definitely seen some neglect. She’s skinny, with overgrown nails. And yet, she’s an absolute love bug. At the kennel door she was all tail wags. We headed to the big grassy kennel and this girl was so happy to have some room to romp! She knows “sit” and “paw” and gets little zoomies when she gets praise. So cute! She gives the sweetest kisses. Kalisee has medical notes for a chronic UTI. See below.

Scanned several times with different scanners all over dog's body. Unable to locate microchip . Dog has urine and f***l scalding on paws. Dog also has green line tattoo.

Little Lilo! She’s soooo tiny! She’s been at BARC for almost a month and is only on the list for length of stay ☹️ It sounds like she’s definitely came out of her shell since intake, and now she’s over the shelter life - can’t blame her. She’s not timid anymore, she greeted me with tail wags and kisses! She gets super excited and jumps for attention, but I think that’s just the lack of stimuli she’s getting here. Another volunteer met her a while back and she was a lot more calm and snuggly then. Luckily she’s small and redirects with treats. She knows “sit” and has done great meeting two other dogs - today she just wanted to play play play! She’s so cute, I really hope she makes it out!

📝 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀:

11/29 Dog was standing at the front of kennel, had a neutral face and tense body. I easily leashed her and she immediately walked out with tense body and tucked tail. She walked loosely outside, while outside i was able to pet her but she displayed a more timid body language. She kept sniffing my hands and slowly kept backing away from me. She walked loosely back inside and went straight into her kennel.

12/15 Lilo walks well on a loose leash with a relax body and wagging tail. I walk Lilo to the dog run, removed the leash and she started walking around sniffing. I went to get another dog to walk out to the dog run and notice Lilo was whinning and biting at the fence.

Bacon is a hoot! She kinda looks like a dog named Domino I met a while back that I thought no one would want, and now he’s living his best life. Manifesting that for her too. 🥹 She has the cutest spots and teef. She also has derm, callouses, and her white fur is tainted like she’s been on the street for a while. I’m shocked shes HW-, but she was definitely owned. She knows sit & paw, and LOVES people. She sticks her arms straight out, sooooo excited to be getting attention, it cracked us up. She’s a kissy girl with a good amount of energy - after 3 weeks of BARC, she’s definitely over the shelter life and becoming vocal. I can just see her being the biggest cuddle bug once she’s settled down and in a calmer environment. She’s met a few dogs and done well, lots of tail wags and playful behavior. I really hope she gets her miracle!

Andre may be the chillest dog I have ever met and in case you are wondering I am a fan of chill dogs. He was curled up in a tiny 72lb ball on his bed snoozing away when I walked up. He leashed up easily and slowly moseyed outside with me. No leash pulling for this gentle giant. He didn't give me a ton of personality at first but the more I hung out with him he more I realized he did give me personality. Andre's personality. He would be the kind of pup who would sit around a bonfire with you hoping for of a couple head pats but not needing them because you hanging out near him is more than enough for him. As I ran around the runs acting a fool grabbing toys trying to make him do something cute he just trotted around after me slowly cracking a smile. Probably thinking to himself "ok lady take a page out of my book and chill" He met a high energy dog no issues and the Barc cat that scared the p**s out of him. I'm bummed he is HW+ because he would be so dang easy to find a plan for otherwise. I really really hope someone falls inlove with this guy like I did and busts him out tomorrow. I promise he will give you many more years of rad companionship.
