Yesterday two healthy 4 month old pups were euthanized so Athena’s age doesn’t mean she will make it out. She needs a rescue or foster to save her life!

Athena is only five months old and she’s adorably cute. Because she’s so young we just hung out in her kennel. I put a bandanna on her and she sat still on her bed for about five minutes while I took photos at different angles. This is basically unheard of for a puppy to sit still that long. She’s super friendly and gentle. I picked her up with no problem. She’s a great little girl.

Morty is the perfect lab! He’s a great medium size, excellent temperament and super cute. He did great on his temp test. This boy came into the shelter pretty skinny and he’s treat motivated. I don’t think he knows any tricks but I bet it wouldn’t be hard to teach him.

2/8 Very tensed, head low, cowering out of kennel she slowly poked her head out of the kennel, walked on a loose leash to new kennel

2/7 Dog is at the back of the kennel, tensed body, whale eyes, slowly walks out with a crouched body, slowly followed me into a new kennel

2/11 dog was a move adopt and when i leashed him in the run he walked semi tight and in the kennel he didnt want to go in i had to lift his bottom to place him in the kennel.

Ariel is a good mom just trying to protect her babies. Who could blame her? I would do the same thing to protect these two little babies if I were her. I opened the kennel and offered some treats to her. She didn’t come forward, but she also didn’t make any growling sound. She tucked her babies beneath her. The puppies are absolutely adorable little fluff nuggets. They are still nursing.

📝 𝗩𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀:
Thor is the happiest meatball I have ever met!! The best way to describe him is a 64lb bull in a china shop, but I kind of loved the chaos. It makes me sad that foster to adopter returned him after only 2 weeks but honestly I am not surprised. He is not a dog for everyone but would be the perfect pup for the right person. He pulls on leash, he wants to be a teeny lap dog and will jump all over you trying to get comfy on your lap, he playfully nibbled on my hand and he's chatty. But I kind of loved it. It's hard to describe him as anything other than pure joy. He could easily make you laugh every day with his wild antics and adorable grin. And I kinda love it. He is so unapologetically Thor as he sploots his legs out when he lays down and throws his paws up as he danced around on 2 legs. And you guessed it... I kind of love it 😂

📝 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀:
2/12 - As I was approaching the kennel, Thor was laying on his kuranda bed. As I open the kennel door he walk up to me and I place the leash on him. Started to walk outside and he was pulling forward on the leash, tossed treats to redirect on a loose
leash but he was not interested in the treats. But in the kennel I have notice he's been quiet but will keep monitoring.

2/13 - dog greeted me with waging tail wiggly body and vocalizing as i was going to leash him up he began to bump into my leg where he tried to get out once i had him leashed on he began to walk on tight leash pulling foward and not intrested in treats but once in the run and unleashed him dog took off running to the back. In the afternoon dog while i was picking up enrichment was hyper energic and as i tried to get out he kept getting in the way and being vocal and letting his body drop as i give him scratches but when i stop he continues to be vocal and lean on my leg pushing himself off the sides of the kennel.

Ace has been extended several times and today is his LAST day. He needs a HERO today!

Ace is such a gentle boy that we had to put the teddy bear bandana on him. It’s perfectly fitting. He’s 7 years old and looks to be a healthy weight. He was so quiet and gentle when I met him at the kennel door. He leashed up easy and we walked by the kennels no problem. Out in the runs he crawled his front paws gently onto my lap and took treats and gave kisses. He met Dalila through the fence and they did great! He’s such a sweet boy!

📝 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀:
Approaching kennel, dog was in the front with a relaxed body and neutral face. I opned the door and easily leashed him.
He walked with a relaxed body and neutral face. was moved over in the morning and became vocal and was forward barking towards other dogs i passed by his kennel.

When I approached his kennel, Ace was standing by the kennel door with a soft face. I leashed him and he walked on a
semi-loose leash to and from the outside runs with a loose body. He took treats gently from my hand. Calm and quiet in his
kennel throughout the day.

📝 𝗩𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀:
Who else loves the timid girls? Chica looks like such a tiny girl because she tries to take up as little space as possible. She is gentle and adorable and scared to death of all the noise at the shelter. Sadly, this has landed her on the euthanasia list.

She was laying in the back of her kennel on her bed when I came up to the door. After some baby talk, she came up to greet me. In the kennel, she was kissing my hand (watch video). She obviously likes people, but she’s unsure with all noise. I scooped her up and we went to the Photoroom where she gently posed for me. Outside, I set her down and she walked well on the leash and went potty. When it was time to come back in, she froze at the door. It’s just so loud in there. I know this girl is GREAT and she would do so well OUT of the shelter (read her staff notes - she’s just scared of all the noise). I’m just worried because she’s a black dog and she’s heartworm positive. This girl needs to make it out!

📝 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀:
Dog was tense, walked out the kennel slowly. Would stop in the hall and start to shake. Ears perked and looking around. I
used the red board to get her moving. She moved and was still looking around.

When I approached her kennel, Chica was laying down in her Kuranda bed. I opened the kennel door and she lowered her
head. I walked in and leashed her and she didn't follow me out of the kennel. I carried her to the chicken coop. While in the
run, she did a big shake and relaxed her tail. When I retrieved her, she approached the gate with a wiggly body. I leashed
her and she walked with a wiggly body to the doors leading back into South. When I opened the doors, she pancaked and
I had to carry her back to her kennel.
Chica was hesitant to leash or leave her kennel, froze, tense body, tail between legs. She needed to be carried to a run.

She avoided being leashed from the run and walked back to her kennel still tense and low posture. Placed on adopt eval,
added cover, will monitor.

This senior girl is incredibly sweet so Strawberry is a fitting name. 8 years old and this girl finds herself picked up as a stray and now on the euthanasia list. She’s so gentle and friendly that I don’t think she was a stray long. Whenever I sit she comes to give kisses. But she’s got a lot stacked against her. She’s a black, older, HW+ girl with arthritis and hip dysplasia. She’s so sweet and her notes are all good. I hope this isn’t the end of the road. She’s such a good girl!

Will treat with 100mg Carprofen SID x 10 day

2/3 - Removed blanket from kennel door and practiced walking dogs past puppies' kennel while tossing treats to back of kennel. Both puppies turned and ate treats readily, and anticipated treats when passing by with dogs standing on their hind legs looking up at my hand holding treats, ignoring even dogs that went up to sniff their bellies
2/1 - These puppies can get very vocal when other dogs pass by their kennel. The visual barrier has helped but they can still be heard sometimes.

Xenos is currently my fave dog at BARC, and I’m so sad she’s finally on the list. She’s been a good girl, and is only in danger due to length of stay. She’s been there for 3 weeks now. I met her when she first got to the shelter, and have visited her every time since. She’s sooooo cute, definitely a mal mix, just fun sized at 43lbs. She’s so sweet and submissive, walks well on leash, and has done great meeting other dogs. She’s always so quiet and calm in the kennel, so I think she’s a unicorn for her breed, and not your typical high energy mal. She does the “submissive leg lift” (if you know you know) and gives low tail wags in the kennel. She gives the most gentle kisses, and I could’ve sat in the kennel rubbing her belly all day. She has a great temperament, I love her so much, and NEED her to make it out. Someone please offer to foster her through HW treatment, so she can be saved!

📝 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀:

When I approached her kennel, Xenos was sitting by the kennel door with furrowed brows. When I opened the kennel door, she lowered her head and avoided eye contact. I leashed her and she walked outside on a loose leash with a high wagging tail. While in the outside run, an ACT observed Xenos biting and pulling at the gate. She walked back inside on a loose leash with a relaxed body. She was calm and quiet in her kennel throughout the day.

Bella is a chill senior citizen who kept a clean kennel and was dog friendly on her temp test. She let me dress her up for Valentine’s Day pics and even kept the headband on the entire time I had her in the runs! She was happy to just be out and get some pets. She didn’t show interest in my treats or toys but I bet shes the perfect couch potato! She is such a great lady, appears potty trained, since she waited til she was outside to do her business, she is dog and people friendly, walks well on the leash, and heartworm negative! I hope bella gets to spend her final days in a home with a loving family, comfy bed and full belly. 💜

💜 𝗩𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀: I have no idea what it is about Bowie but I just love him. He has a gentle sweetness about him and I have no idea how anyone could’ve surrendered him as a euthanasia request. When I was at BARC last week and passed his sad, blue eyed, tear stained face curled up on his cot I made a mental note to meet him and I’m so glad I did. He acts older than 5 and is so obedient and calm. He knows how to sit and swishes his tail on the ground when he does so. He did really well on THREE different temp tests, and even when Brutus, an intact male, started to hump him, he didn’t freak. I sat on the bench while I waited for another volunteer to bring out a second dog, and he just reached out and put his paw on my thigh 😭 He has a URI brewing and did some intense reverse sneezing, but only when we would walk. Back in his kennel he felt fine. I’m so glad I got to take off his nasty studded collar and replace it with a teddy bear bandana. It fits him so much better.

📝 𝗩𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀:
The shelter notes for Winder make me LOL. Of course he is jumping around and barking he is an aussie mix puppy that is locked up most of the day. He is a high energy boi. I just happened to grab him because he seemed friendly for a temp test a few weeks back. He was microchipped so he was waiting to see if his family would come and get him. Clearly they didn't which is their loss because Winder is such a friendly puppy. He did great in his temp test with another pup and just wanted to play. I wish I would have gotten more picture of him but I didn't realize his name was changed from Paco to Winder so when I looked for him I thought his family came for him. Anyway he is great and dang cute and he just has to make it out.

📝 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀:
When I approached the kennel, he was standing with his front paws on the door and he had a loose wiggly body with a relaxed open mouth. I leashed him and he jumped up and few times with a wiggly body, but I easily redirected him with treats. When another person walked up, he greeted them with a wiggly body and they pet him. He was calm and quiet in his kennel when he came back inside.

01/30/25 Standing on hind legs with front paws on kennel, fast wagging tail, open mouth and tappy hind paws ("dancing"). Easily redirected with treats tossed behind him on bed and once he turned to eat them then I opened kennel and leashed. Walked with tappy toes, wiggly body out to runs. Once back in his kennel got him back down on all fours when passing by by tossing treats down for him approaching kennel dog is jumping up while high pitch barking. I offer treats and while he is distracted i leash him. Walked on a loose leash keeping nose to the ground, followed treats to run. when taking off leash dog did become a bit mouthy but was able to redirect.
02/06/25 Standing up on hind legs with front paws on kennel door when walking by with other dogs, but easily redirected with treats. Walked with tight leash outside; was the first to be walked today. Once everyone else had been walked took Winder out again and he walked out with tight leash, and once I came back for him he was standing on hind legs with front paws on gate, whining, panting. Walked with semi-loose leash back inside and into kennel. continuously jumped against the kennel door and barking. He walks on a tight leash and shows no interest in treats Dog was in the kennel panting and when i tried to leash dog was moving too much to let me leash him and when i did while walking dog kept pulling and kept reaching the leash and my hand to nib on as i threw treats dog ate it as walking biut then continue to jump on me.
