2024 was a slow year for adoptions even though we have numerous wonderful older cats. We are encouraging our clients and our clients' friends and family to consider adding a new member to their family during this festive time.

Adopting an older cat not only provides a loving home for an animal in need, but also brings immeasurable joy and companionship to families and individuals. Together, we can make a difference in the lives these kitties and ensuring that every kitty has the chance to experience the warmth and love of a home this year.

As 2024 came to close and 2025 starts to purr away, I want to wish you and your family and friends a prosperous, happy, safe and fulfilled 2025 and thank you for your continued support!

Please join us today, Tuesday, December 3rd, in this global day of giving, generosity, community, and hope.

The world will come together for this global day of giving. Giving Tuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Over the past twelve years, this idea has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.

While it may seem like everything has slowed down this year, the critical work to save the kitties at the Almost Home Cat Haven has not (and cannot) stop. This is a challenging time, financially and emotionally, for everyone; but every single donation continues our mission to find furrever homes.

Your support throughout the holiday season and into the new year ensures that we will be able to continue to provide the proper care for our kitties, no matter what lies ahead.

Please join us today Tuesday, December 3rd in this global day of giving, generosity, community, and hope by:

Levi wasn't acting like himself, so we took him to the vet right away. The vet said he has FIP. The good news is that there have been some amazing advances in treating FIP in the last few years. With the right treatment, cats can now survive this once deadly disease. We are able to get approval for half the meds Levi needs, but the total cost is $555.50. Would you please consider donating to help us buy his meds? I would be so grateful. You can donate through PayPal at this link: https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/almosthomecathaven or through Zelle at (713) 775-8553. You can also mail a check payable to Almost Home Cat Haven, Inc. at 5050 FM 1960 West, Suite 103, Houston, TX 77069. Thanks a bunch, Deena

One our longtime Volunteers still does not have power and is trying to see if anyone has a battery operated fan she might borrow. It is almost 90 degrees in her house and she is worried about her cats. Please call me at 713-775-8553 if you have one to loan. Thank you....Deena

UPDATE: We were very fortunate to have several fans loaned to us and a Commercial fan purchased for the rescue. We had several other items offered and while coordinating getting them here we received a wonderful blessing of our power being restored. We were able to get the A/C running and cooling off the rescue which allowed the kitties to start cooling off. Today it is a cool 80 degrees here at the rescue and the kitties are running around playing. We have our wonderful A/C company - McGarrett AC & Heating coming shortly to check our freon level to allow the unit to cool us down to our normal. The new Trane Coil will be here in the next 6 weeks to alleviate the need to keep having to add more freon. It is another Blessed day at the rescue. Words don't seem enough to say THANK YOU to everyone who was able to help us through this very trying time even though they were dealing with their own issues. Please know we don't take everyone's kindness/love for the kitties for granted. Thank you again.....Deena

The rescue has been without power since 8:45 AM Monday. We have devised a grate in our front to allow air in and no kitties out. Krazy Seafood owner Cruz has been so kind to run power cords from the street signs and loan us a Commercial Fan, but has clients coming in now and needed his fan back. We have 3 small fans, if anyone has a large fan we can use would be so appreciated by the kitties. I can be reached at 713-775-8553. Thank you...Deena

Our air conditioner has a leak in the coil which is substantial enough it is going to require a new coil. However, once we order the new coil it will take 6 weeks for Trane to build it. The new coil with Installation and tax will be $3,734.63. In these hot temperatures, we have to add freon every month. The temperature today in the rescue is 87 degrees. Our A/C Company will be out shortly to add the necessary freon. Unfortunately, air conditioner repairs are astronomical with inflation at our throats and this repair is totally out of our budget as we focus on the health of our cats.

But we have no choice and must get our air conditioner repaired immediately before this heat causes serious health problems at the rescue. That's why I ask you and cat lovers like you to make an emergency air conditioner repair donation to keep all the cats at Almost Home Cat Haven safe.

Could you immediately pitch-in $20, $40, $50, or $100 or more to make this possible? Please feel free to stop by the rescue or if not possible

It is heart-wrenching to witness a puppy desperately chasing a car after being abandoned in the parking lot of the old 99 Cent store and Papa John's Pizza on FM 1960 and Wunderlich. The individuals who left her drove up to Papa John's Pizza, and as the puppy ran up to the car, they drove away, leaving her behind. The manager of the store provided her with food and water. Despite this trauma, the puppy is in good condition and has a positive attitude. She is now in need of a temporary foster home until Abandoned Animal Rescue has an available space, or better yet, a forever home. She is young and incredibly friendly. Please consider giving her the opportunity to have a good life. It is important to always remember that animals have emotions too.

UPDATE!!!!!!!
I just drove back from Randalls, I was there this morning at 6:00 AM when they opened. Angela the Customer Service Manager was working hard to help me get what I needed to file with Western Union and Lynette the Store Manager was getting my info to review the cameras. Lynette went to the back room and someone had apparently found my Money Order and just laid on a counter in the back room. Angela got the phone call from Lynette and suddenly went running to the back room. She came running back with my Money Order in hand. I thanked everyone over and over. I was just able to pay my bill. We are blessed.....Deena

RESCUE IS HARD....
You work to make every donated cent count. Then you make a mistake and you feel like you have let everyone down. We finally finished the major portion of the cleaning today, so I rushed out the door at 5:00 PM to go run my numerous errands in the short amount of time I had before I needed to start my next project. I finally got to my last stop after numerous errands, being interrupted over and over by phone calls trying to drop off more cats. I went to Randalls to get a Money Order for $354.75 to pay a bill. I stood in line patiently, requested my money order, and received it, and then remembered I needed to get some special canned food for one of our special needs kitties. I put my Money Order in with my phone and went to get what I needed. I then decided to grab a few items I needed for myself. I had a weird feeling when there was this gentleman who was on several isles that I was on but brushed it off and went on about my business. I had my list of needed items on my phone so I grabbed it out and started down another aisle to retrieve my needed item. Several isles later I suddenly realized that my Money Order was missing. I lost my mind...I turned and ran back to where I had come from with no luck finding my Money Order. I went immediately to Customer Service and begged for help, the possibility of voiding the Money Order, or making an announcement to see if someone had found it, and giving me a phone number for Western Union only to receive minimal help from the Manager on Duty. The kind Customer Service Employee went above and beyond to try to help me, but her hands were tied. The Manager on Duty came back up and advised her that she needed to get her job done (Customer Service had closed). I called Western Union Money Order Customer Service to find that they are closed until 7:00 AM today. I will be doing everything possible to get a refund of the Money Order. I will be back at Randalls at 6:00 AM when they open to attempt to get the information needed to be provided to Western Union from the Customer Service Manager and to request that they check their security cameras.
The worst part is that the money was needed to support the care of the kitties. I wish that whoever found my money order had a conscience and returned the money order to the Customer Service at Randalls.

If you can spare anything to help fix my mistake, I would be so grateful. Please feel free to stop by the rescue or if not possible

"Prayers for Hardy"

Update:
I'm sorry to inform you about the update that I received from our vet. They successfully repaired the hernia, but unfortunately, his little heart stopped working right after the repair. Despite their best efforts, they couldn't resuscitate him. Upon conducting a post-mortem, they discovered that his right lung was severely damaged and could not inflate at all, whereas his left lung was only able to inflate up to 50%. It is with deep sorrow that I share this news with you, but I want you to know that with your help we did everything we could to give him a fighting chance at life. We appreciate all the prayers and support that you offered during this difficult time.

Last week during the freeze, Hardy went looking for warmth and food. A friend of the rescue noticed that he was having difficulty breathing and asked if he could be examined. During the examination, it was discovered that he needed to see a vet. The vet found that he had poor breath sounds and needed X-rays. The X-rays showed that he was suffering from a diaphragmatic hernia, which was most likely caused by trauma. Life-saving surgery is required to repair the hernia, but unfortunately, he is not the ideal candidate for the surgery due to his malnourished condition. Without the surgery, Hardy would not survive. His surgery is scheduled to begin at noon today. We kindly ask for your prayers for his survival.

Thank you very much in advance!

Deena

Our Mission

We will make a positive change in the lives of the abandoned and homeless cats and kittens in our community, through education about proper nutrition, neuter/spay, declawing and caring for seniors in lieu of abandoning them in kill shelters.
