On Tuesday, we took PawPaw to get neutered. But unfortunately, he was battling many health issues with severe gum disease being one of them. As a feral cat with his quality of life questionable, we had to let him go 😭

UPDATE 10/31 5:00pm. We named her Leia. She had her vet visit and exam today. She is severely underweight at 3lbs!!! She has dental issues and a mass inside her mouth. Our vet said she has not seen so many fleas and flea dirt on a cat so we're going to try to give her a bath and get some of that off of her. We need to help her gain some weight before we can do anything medically. We're going to give it our best to help her heal. Stay tuned for updates and we hope it's good news going forward. We do have a rescue offer from out of state and will keep them posted on Leia's progress.

We just found this girl in the neighborhood. She is safe and indoors and eating well right now with us. But we need help! We need a rescue who can take her on through adoption or transport out of Houston. If you're with a rescue and able to help please connect with us via email [email protected] or send a dm. On National Feral Cat Day yesterday, we were out doing what's in the best interest of feral and community cats in our neighborhood. Four kiddos and one distinguished gentleman are getting vaccinated and fixed today 😻

A big haul today! We sent 8 kiddos for surgery, some were hard to photograph 😞 But the important thing is that they will spayed/neutered and vaccinated.

Our friends at El Gato Coffeehouse Cat Cafe took on Onyx when we worked on the large cat colony with 130+ cats last year. She had medical issues, but they did everything to make her life comfortable. With medical care, a steady source of food (at least she was not battling raccoons to eat) and a comfy place to sleep at night, she had the best last year of her life. Run free sweet girl! You were so loved Onyx! 💔🌈

Over the past year we have taken on several cats that are higher risk based on the conditions that they were living in, such as large, over-populated colonies, and in areas where people are abandoning their pets. This is the case with Onyx. Onyx was rescued by Fur A Pawsitive Future from the same large colony that we took in several cats from in October 2023.
We had to tell Onyx goodbye yesterday. This sassy 11 year old girl was our office cat and often referred to as the boss. She refused to play nice with the other cats and also wasn't very nice to our guests, which is why we kept her behind the scenes in our office.
We loved her dearly and grew more and more fond of her as she became more loving with our El Gato team. Shortly after intaking her she was diagnosed with pancreatitis and then with a chronic kidney infection in her one working kidney. Our team dedicated much love to her supportive care, which included almost daily administration of subcutaneous fluids. Our vet was amazed by how well our team was able to give her a good quality of life despite all her illnesses and had prepared us months ago that our time with Onyx would be coming to an end. Luckily knowing this and understanding that we were hospice fostering her helped us make the decision to let her go.
We have been experiencing a spread of upper respiratory infections as of late and her symptoms quickly developed into pneumonia. As is the case with most infections, the most susceptible cats are the young, the old, and cats with weakened immune systems. Her weakened system was not prepared to continue. While we had to let Onyx go, we currently have a few other cats with critical health needs that still have the potential of living long, happy lives. Two different colonies, two Mama's have had their last litter each and getting fixed today. We have one litter secured (post to follow) working on the other one. No mamas left behind!
