Did you know that your pet's bad breath might be more than just an unpleasant smell? It could indicate that they have periodontal disease! If left untreated, can progress to periodontal disease in the following stages:

Stage 1 — Gingivitis is the first stage of periodontal disease. The bacteria cause gum inflammation but do not damage the supporting tooth structures.

Stage 2 — The bacteria invade under the gum line, damaging the tissue that supports the teeth. Periodontal disease is characterized as stage two when less than 25% of the supporting structures are affected.

Stage 3 — Periodontal disease is characterized as stage three when 25% to 50% of the supporting structures are damaged.

Stage 4 — Periodontal disease is characterized as stage four when greater than 50% of the supporting structures are affected. Typically, stage four teeth aren’t salvageable and must be extracted.

Whatever holiday tradition you celebrate, be sure your decorations are pet safe.
🎄Christmas Trees: Tinsel can cause choking or intestinal issues. Secure your tree from disaster by climbing kitties.
🕯️ Candles: Keep lit candles out of reach to prevent them from being knocked over or catching tails on fire 😱
🌿 Toxic Plants: Mistletoe, holly, poinsettias, and certain lilies can make pets sick. Keep them out of your pet’s reach!
🌎 Snow Globes: These often contain toxic antifreeze. Keep them away from curious pets and clean up any breakages immediately.
⚡ Cords: Cover exposed wires or block access to prevent chewing hazards.

Thanksgiving is almost here—a time for gathering, gratitude, and indulging in all the rich, delicious food we’ve been dreaming about all year! But amidst the holiday cheer, don’t forget about our four-legged family members. Pets are naturally curious (and sneaky!), and the abundance of food and festive chaos can make it easier for them to grab a bite they shouldn’t.

Many Thanksgiving staples, like turkey bones, chocolate desserts, onions, garlic, and even too much rich gravy, can be harmful to pets. And while kids or well-meaning relatives might think they're spoiling your fur baby with treats, those scraps could lead to an upset stomach—or worse. Feeding your pet high-fat table scraps can put your pet at risk for pancreatitis. Pancreatitis is an extremely painful condition that can lead to vomiting, diarrhea, decreased appetite and energy, and even a prolonged and expensive holiday stay in the ER.

To keep everyone safe and happy:

Set up a pet-safe snack bowl with vet-approved treats. Raw veggies like carrots or broccoli, cooked unseasoned and skinless white meat turkey, or plain unseasoned pumpkin are all safe.
Make sure plates and leftovers are out of reach.
Gently remind guests not to share their food.
Thanksgiving is all about sharing love, not tummy troubles—so let’s keep the feast fun for every member of the family, furry ones included!

If your cat suddenly seems to change his mind about the petting, and appears tense, with his ears back and pupils dilated, it’s best to stop and let him be. If you ignore the signals, he may feel trapped, and his only way out may be to defend himself. Remember that cats are individuals with their own preferences and moods.

Watch for his body language and signals, and respect his boundaries. It’s better to end the petting session earlier than risk hurting your cat or straining your relationship.
