Hello Sea Dog family-
We want to share some information with you regarding a respiratory illness that is present in the greater Houston area. Atypical Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease Complex has been seen in several states over the past several months, and we have been made aware that there has been an uptick in cases in Houston. While we have not received culture results back, we have noticed symptoms in line with this illness in some of the pets in our facility. As a result, we have entered a quarantine. The health of the animals in our care remains our top priority, and we are taking steps to both proactively protect and respond to symptoms. If you have an animal in our care, you will have received several emails regarding quarantine communication.
We also feel like this information is beneficial for those of you who do not currently have pets in our care! This respiratory illness is different from kennel cough, and has a variety of symptoms that range from mild to aggressive.
The LSU School of Veterinary Medicine wants to keep pet owners informed about Atypical Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease Complex (aCIRDC), which has been seen in 14 states but has yet to reach Louisiana. With a focus on prevalence, clinical signs, pathogenesis, screening, treatment, and preventi...

Here’s your permission to cheat on that diet.

This is the first time I’ve looked at a ballpit and not heard my mother’s voice warning me that there might be needles and f***s in it like the ball pit myths of the 90s. And even if there was…I’d run the risk for that puppy 😍

Cod short skins- it’s what’s for dinner!
What is a cod short skin, you may ask. I’m glad you did. Scientifically, it’s the best treat for the most loved pets!
Additionally, they are single ingredient (er, cod skin) and therefor great for dogs with certain protein sensitivities. As an added bonus, they can help clean teeth and reduce tartar build up. And the BEST part is we have them in stock. Come pick some up while they last!

Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas! May you bring the same enthusiasm to tomorrow that Queen does.
DIY Christmas dog toy!
Here's a fun and easy DIY scavenger toy for your dog, cat, or bird, made from leftover wrapping paper!
And to address the elephant in the room...yes, there is a very cute bird in this video.
Scent enrichment
We love adding scent elements to enrichment! Tins (like the one tucked between pumpkins) can hold cotton balls with essential oils on them to add complexity and interest to activities. Charlie seems to be a big fan of the sweet corn scent, which is on brand since he is both sweet and corny.
Home made puzzle feeder
Enrichment for your pet doesnt have to break the bank! This homemade puzzle feeder is made out of PVC pipe.
Camel training
Jack Pine stars in the upcoming Dreamworks picture, How to Train Your Camel.

When we say we train exotics too, we mean the whole spectrum. Lions and Tigers and Camels, oh my.
www.seadoganimaltraining.com
Disclaimer: we don’t actually train lions. Or tigers. Or any other animal that is irresponsible for pet ownership. We DO train camels. And snakes, birds, pigs, hedgehogs, rabbits, chickens, and other various and sundry exotics that are legal and responsible ;) Stay safe out there and don’t try to be Mike Tyson from The Hangover.

Leash locking 101
Have you ever heard of a leash lock? It's a part of defensive leash handling that really boosts the amount of control you have over the leash, while allowing you to engage more of your muscles.

Sea Dog is now offering monthly bathing memberships!!
It's one thing to pay somebody to train your dog, but we also want to equip you as the owner with the tools to not only make the most of that training, but continue it! The goal is a partnership between trainer, owner, and pet.
Here, Hipp demonstrates some of the skills he's been working on at home. 💙
Sea Dog Animal Training was born from the ideas and training theories of voluntary participation, as applied to marine mammals. Heather's positive reinforcement training experience is heavily rooted in working with California sea lions, which are often called "Sea Dogs."
Is your pet rambunctious? Does your pet seem to have "selective hearing"? Is your pet already pretty awesome and you want to provide advanced training as a way to enrich your pet's life? I can help!
In a study conducted by the National Council on Pet Population Study and Policy (NCPPSP), researchers found that 96% of dogs surrendered to shelters had not received any obedience training. It is my personal mission to help reduce the number of pets that are relinquished to shelters through positive reinforcement training services offered by Sea Dog Animal Training.
Whether you have a dog, a cat, a bearded dragon, a mini pig, or a parrot, my experience and training services will help transform your pet into a well mannered member of the family.
I am a dedicated animal care professional, looking to help you and your pet have the most fulfilling relationship through positive reinforcement training. I have been in the Animal Care field for 17 years and have cared for and trained a variety of animals from household pets, to horses and cattle and a mini pig, to exotic animals in a zoo setting including primates, parrots, seals, and sea lions. For the past nine years, I have worked with California sea lions (Sometimes called Sea Dogs). The same positive reinforcement training techniques used to train marine mammals will be used to help you and your pet to be successful together so you will both have an enriched life!
