Meet Flauta, a tall, handsome young cat with a playful spirit—his favorite toys are string and feather ones! He adores lounging on his tall cat tree, gazing out the window. Flauta is incredibly affectionate and sweet, though he had a tough start dealing with stress from other cats in his previous home, which led to a UTI. Now he’s on a special urinary diet and doing great.

Because of his early experiences, Flauta is most comfortable as the only pet in the household. He did get along with the dog in his previous home, suggesting he could warm up to a cat-friendly canine friend with gradual introductions. The adoption process includes a trial period, allowing Flauta to settle into your home before finalizing the adoption.

Flauta may need some time to adjust and build trust in his new environment, so patience and a gentle approach are important. Contact one of our team members for more information.

Meet Rubi and Bili, two inseparable 10-month-old companions who were rescued outside an apartment complex. Both are spayed and neutered, and they are now seeking a loving foster home with the potential to become their forever family.

Hello there! I’m Mel, an 8-year-old neutered male. I’m FIV/FELV negative and love serenading you with my meows. Charismatic and charming, I enjoy lap time on my terms and may turn into a drool faucet when you pet me. While I’m still playful, I’m approaching my senior years. I get along with other cats and tolerate dogs. All sorts of toys catch my interest when the mood strikes. Originally a feral cat, I’m now seeking a loving forever home to call my own. Interested? Please chat with a staff member for more information!

My name is Freon 🐱 My journey began with hardship, living on the streets until a compassionate soul rescued me. I bore wounds on my neck and body, needing extensive care. Now healed, I seek a forever home, eager to share my affectionate nature. Despite my past, I’m a loving and trusting companion, craving cuddles. I’m a true lovebug, longing to nestle in your lap. My time outdoors left scars, and I’m FIV positive, so I may need some extra time to warm up to my surroundings, but I’ll thrive with tender love and care. I’m chatty and playful, but I also enjoy being lazy and taking naps. If you’re ready to give me your heart, please consider adopting me.

The month of February is National Pet Dental Health month! In recognition of Dental month we will be offering 20% off the cost of a dental cleaning for the month of February! Please give us a call today to get your pet's dental health evaluated!

Periodontal disease is the most common dental condition in dogs and cats – by the time your pet is 3 years old, he or she will very likely have some early evidence of periodontal disease, which will worsen as your pet grows older if effective preventive measures aren’t taken. Early detection and treatment are critical, because advanced periodontal disease can cause severe problems and pain for your pet. Periodontal disease doesn’t just affect your pet’s mouth. Other health problems found in association with periodontal disease include kidney, liver, and heart muscle changes.

It starts with plaque that hardens into tartar. Tartar above the gumline can often easily be seen and removed, but plaque and tartar below the gumline is damaging and sets the stage for infection and damage to the jawbone and the tissues that connect the tooth to the jaw bone. Periodontal disease is graded on a scale of 0 (normal) to 4 (severe).

The treatment of periodontal disease involves a thorough dental cleaning and x-rays may be needed to determine the severity of the disease. Your veterinarian will make recommendations based on your pet’s overall health and the health of your pet’s teeth, and provide you with options to consider.

*Discount applies to the cost of dental cleaning including anesthesia. Bloodwork, extractions, additional medications and other oral surgery is excluded from this promotion.

He’s super playful and needs a family who will put in time to play with him. He is a great all around tiny kitty with the sweetest, friendliest personality!! Are you looking for 2 kitties?! Hello my name is Dynamo and my foster mom says my stare will melt your heart!! I'm a calm, easy going boy who loves b***y scratches and play time. I’m all purrs when people pet me and I seek out affection. I came to my foster family as a scared stray but I showed them very quickly that all I wanted was love. I warm up to new people quickly and my foster mom tells me I’m a sweet soul who is going to make someone very happy one day! She says I’m the perfect balance of confidence and calm. I would love to have a playful sibling!! I am also very close to my sibling, Cosmo. We play, groom one another, cuddle together. Interested in adopting 2 kitties?! Consider Dynamo and his brother, Cosmo. Meet Ms. or Lady Griddlebones! Named for a character in Cats (musical), she cannot get enough pets and affection. She will rub and roll and rub against her human for more. She likes her food, too, and has a bit of a cute pudge around her middle. She hardly seems to shed. This young lady is OK with other cats but would also be OK as a single kitty - queen of her domain. Her favorite lounging place is on top of her cat tree looking out a window into the world. She will play independently and is quite content to chase her own tail on occasion despite having a array of toys, but, once her human is back, she really just wants affection more than anything. When she came to AJL, she had a very bad skin infection and some digestive issues. Turns these were caused by a food allergy. It took some time and trial and error to find the right food. She is on a limited ingredient rabbit formula and is thriving. This food is available over the counter (not prescription) at Chewy, Petsmart and Petco. Interested in meeting this sweetheart? Please follow the link below to fill out the Adoption application on the AJL website.

Unlike dogs, cats tend to hide signs of illness, so it’s important to pay close attention to any physical and behavioral changes. The most common signs and symptoms of feline cancer include the following:

Bumps or swellings that persist or continue to grow
Skin sores that do not heal
Enlarged or changing lumps and bumps
Swollen lymph nodes
Bleeding or discharge from any body opening
A foul odor from the mouth
A cough that won’t go away
Appetite changes, chronic weight loss, or weight gain
Difficulty eating or swallowing
Trouble breathing, urinating, or defecating
Hesitation to exercise and loss of stamina
Extreme fatigue or lethargy
Persistent stiffness or lameness

Keep in mind that the above list is not comprehensive, and not every one of these symptoms indicates cancer. However, if your cat demonstrates any of these warning signs or if you have any concerns, talk to your trusted team at The Cat Veterinary Clinic. We will evaluate your feline friend’s health and work to uncover any underlying problems.

It is with love and sadness that we report the passing of Dr. Billie Pennings, the founder of the Cat Veterinary Clinic in 1973.

In her 101 years of life, Dr. Pennings broke barriers and built her own successes which include being the first woman hired by the National Weather Service, the fourth known female WWII U.S. Merchant Marine Veteran, the seventh woman to graduate from Auburn College of Veterinary Medicine, the founder of the first feline-only veterinary clinic in Texas, a mother, a grandmother and a great-grandmother.

A true trailblazer and inspiration, Dr. Pennings will be missed greatly by all who knew her.

You should really come meet this trio of boys! Rocky is the definition of a lovebug, he will be everyone's best friend! Everest and K2 are a little more reserved, but very sweet boys once they get to know you. All three need forever homes, together would be divine but if you have room for one (or two) please let us know!

Hello, we’re the Professors! We were abandoned by our mother and left alone when we were only a few weeks old. The smallest of us was in pretty bad shape, but the CVC team fixed her up and now we're a healthy and happy trio.

We do have to let you know that we have all tested positive for FIV. There is a chance we only tested positive because of our mother’s antibodies, which means there’s a possibility we’ll all test negative in the future. FIV is a disease that would compromise our immune system, but not our ability to provide love and companionship to you! FIV would only be spread to other kitties by a deep bite wound, so it is usually safe to keep us together with other cats in the same household.

We’re super friendly and energetic, but it can get lonely here without a true place to call home. We would love to come home with you and fill your home with magic, fun, and all cuddles you could imagine!
