Raven Needs Her Angel Meet Raven, our beautiful girl who’s been in boarding for 202 days and will soon mark a year in rescue next month. Despite her incredible spirit, Raven has never received an application or any real interest. She’s a senior, deaf, and needs to be the only pet in the home, but she’s amazing with people, housebroken, smart, and even a little sassy. Raven’s been living at Sonoma's Haven where we’re doing our best to cover her boarding costs—$32 per day, every single day, even with the rescue rate. It’s a significant expense, but we believe that Raven is just as deserving as any other dog. We’re not giving up on her, and we know her forever family is out there. One of the best parts of my day is walking my boy every morning. It’s a quiet, peaceful time—just the two of us, taking the same familiar route. He loves these walks, especially the fresh smells and the cool breeze that graces us right before Houston turns into an oven. In a life filled with uncertainty, these walks are a constant—a reminder to slow down and appreciate each moment. A senior dog like Jack has shown me the beauty of living life one step, one smell, at a time. His companionship is the gift that keeps on giving, and I’m forever grateful for it. Senior dogs, special needs dogs, hospice dogs—underdogs everywhere—you have my heart. But as I sit here after our walk, I can’t help but think of the many dogs whose mornings look very different. Too many start their day scavenging for their next meal, heads buried in trash cans, dodging cars in traffic until their luck runs out. Some start their day at home with their family, only to be dropped off at a strange, unfamiliar building, unaware it’s their last day with the people they love. This is the heartbreaking reality we face every day. The requests for help are constant, yet foster and adoption applications are few. The need is growing, and our hands are tied—we can’t help without you. It’s only with your support that we can keep our doors open for the next dog in need and continue to care for those already in our program. Unless the need is immediate, donations have slowed considerably. But there is hope. This problem can be fixed, and it starts with each of us doing our part. Together, we can change their reality. A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by and supported our rescue at this year's Houston Dog Show! We had an amazing time, made so many new friends, and met many new faces. Our dogs enjoyed every moment, and we were thrilled to show them off. None of this would have been possible without the help of our wonderful volunteers. A simple life with senior dogs. Still no adoption or foster applications for them and funding as it always does has slowed. But somehow we keep going, for now at least. It feels often times like once they come into rescue, we are their final stop because no one wants them. As much as we promote both online and in-person, it almost always results in nothing. Everyday I worry about this rescues future but in this moment, I keep pushing forward. This Saturday we went to Natural Pawz with Petunia's litter in the hopes for finding forever homes. No applications but the pups had a blast. I would like to thank our wonderful volunteers for giving up their Saturday's to come work our pop-up. This could not have happened without your help! I will never tire of sharing Dan's incredible journey. From a stray dog on the streets of Houston, unable to use his hind legs to literally running circles around me. We are so proud of this guy. Petunia and her babies are thriving in their foster home! Babies are getting chunky and Petunia is slowly but surely coming out of her shell. Next week we plan on starting vaccines and deworming. We will begin taking applications soon so stay tuned.
