Yesterday, we welcomed seven tiny kittens into our care—frightened, sick, and covered in ringworm. These fragile babies came from one of our partner shelters, where their futures were uncertain. While their lives weren’t immediately at risk, we know that in general, ringworm—highly contagious and time-consuming to treat—often puts kittens like them in danger of euthanasia simply because shelters don’t have the resources to care for them.

A few of these kittens are in even rougher shape, battling upper respiratory infections on top of their ringworm, making breathing difficult. Right now, they need weeks of medical care, special baths, and dedicated foster support before they’ll be healthy enough to find families of their own. This is exactly why Houston Pets Alive! exists—to step in when others can’t and give these vulnerable animals a second chance.

Last month, we reached out about another group of pets facing similar challenges. Thanks to you, they’re now thriving! But this is the reality of our work—it never stops. Every single week, more animals need us, and we can’t say yes to them without you.

Last week, 𝟯𝟲 𝗽𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 through our rescue program and Adopt Together program with BARC!

This week, we’re celebrating second (and even third!) chances. Tyson, Digit, and Rocco each had an unexpected detour in their journey, but thanks to our rescue efforts and Adopt Together program, they’ve finally found the loving homes they deserve. This is a testament to how some journeys take a little longer, but 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗽𝗲𝘁 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲.

A huge congratulations to all 36 pets and their new families!

𝗖𝗮𝗻’𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗽, 𝘄𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗽!

Despite two days of ice and snow closures, we’re celebrating a whopping 𝟯𝟬 𝗮𝗱𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 this week!

𝗛𝗼𝗱𝗼𝗿 (𝗽𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗼 𝟭) & 𝗚𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘆: Rescued in December with severe mange, these puppy siblings are now fully healed and have found their loving families!

𝗗𝗶𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗹 (𝗽𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗼𝘀 𝟮 & 𝟯): After being with us since November, this shy pup finally found his perfect match! A family looking for a sibling for their rescue dog met Diesel, and it was love at first sight. 𝘈𝘴 𝘳𝘦𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘣𝘺 𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘢𝘥𝘰𝘱𝘵𝘦𝘳, 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘪𝘳𝘴𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘋𝘪𝘦𝘴𝘦𝘭 𝘥𝘪𝘥 𝘪𝘯 𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘯𝘦𝘸 𝘩𝘰𝘮𝘦? 𝘡𝘰𝘰𝘮 𝘢𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘯𝘦𝘸 𝘴𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘭 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘣𝘰𝘵𝘩 𝘱𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘤𝘶𝘥𝘥𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘥.

𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗸 (𝗽𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗼 𝟰): This special CH cat had been searching for a home since May. After joining our program all the way from Galveston, a new environment at HPA! helped him finally find his person—proving how important fresh starts and exposure are for at-risk animals.

As freezing temperatures approach, it’s crucial to keep your pets safe and warm! Our team has bundled up both our personal pets and foster pets—make sure you do the same for yours to prepare for the icy conditions ahead.

𝗪𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗲𝘁 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗶𝗽𝘀:
❄️ 𝗗𝗼 𝗡𝗢𝗧 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲. Bring them indoors to keep them safe and warm.
❄️ 𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝘄𝗮𝗹𝗸𝘀 𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗳. Limit time outdoors to protect them from the cold.
❄️ 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝘂𝗽'𝘀 𝗽𝗮𝘄𝘀. Ice and salt can harm paw pads—wipe them when they come inside.
❄️ 𝗟𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗱𝗼𝗼𝗿 𝗰𝗮𝘁𝘀. Stay home if you can, but if you must travel, tap your car hood before starting the engine—cats often seek warmth by hiding underneath.

Some journeys to adoption take a little longer than others, but when the perfect match happens, it’s always worth the wait.

🎉 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗧𝗼𝗮𝗱 𝗼𝗻 𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗱𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗕𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝘆 𝗔𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 (𝗙𝗕𝗖𝗔𝗦)! His calm, well-behaved demeanor in his kennel caught his new family’s eye—thanks to the shelter’s enrichment program, which eased his anxiety and brought out his best self.

Enrichment and activity are vital for keeping dogs mentally and physically healthy in kennels. Without it, stress and anxiety can take over. Activities like physical exercise and brain-stimulating tasks help dogs stay calm, happy, and adoptable.

We’re looking to expand our team of adoption counselors to assist at BARC Animal Shelter & Adoptions and we need YOU! Since this program launched in June, our amazing counselors have helped 𝟰𝟯𝟵 𝗕𝗔𝗥𝗖 𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹𝘀 find loving homes. A growing team means even more loving homes found.

We’ll teach you everything you need to know to successfully match adopters with compatible pets. The training is quick and simple, but the impact you’ll make for at-risk animals will be enormous!

This week, we rescued 10 lives—four sweet puppies and six tiny kittens—all suffering from ringworm, a contagious but treatable condition. Sadly, many shelters don’t have the resources to care for animals like them, putting them at a much higher risk of euthanasia.

Because of your generosity, Houston Pets Alive! had the capacity to step in and give these little ones the treatment and love they need to recover. Today, they’re safe and healing—all thanks to supporters like you.

This week, we celebrated 𝟭𝟱 𝗮𝗱𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 through our HPA! rescue program and Adopt Together program with BARC Animal Shelter & Adoptions. Huge congratulations to all the animals who found their loving homes!

🐾 𝗕𝘂𝗴𝘀𝗯𝘆 (picture 2) stole his foster dad’s heart, and now he’s officially a permanent member of the family. We couldn’t be happier for this perfect match!

🐾 Shoutout to 𝗧𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗮 from BARC (picture 3), who found her match during our adoption event! A couple stopped by during the Pet Food Drive, sharing that they were looking for a companion for their dog at home after a recent and devastating loss of their senior dog to cancer. Tessa melted their hearts, and the rest is history. Fun fact: This was her second adoption event with us, and her foster mom said she 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘬𝘯𝘦𝘸 it would be her big day. Call it foster mom intuition!

This cutie in the sweater is making a special appearance at our New Year, New Homes Adoption Event tomorrow!

If he looks familiar, it’s because yes—it’s that Hodor, one of the puppies we rescued in December. When we took him in, Hodor was battling severe demodectic mange, but thanks to the love and care he’s received, Hodor is healing beautifully! Though he still has some recovering to do and a little more hair to grow, he’s perfectly safe to be around humans and is ready to find a loving home!

Come meet Hodor and other adoptable dogs (including Gilly, Hodor’s sister) at the event tomorrow!
