!!HELP!! Donations are needed to cover the bill for three kittens posted on NextDoor that were in need of medical assistance. The good samaritan who originally found them thought they were just suffering from a bad URI (Upper Repository Infection) and flea infestation so we were NOT expecting a bill for $325. We got them to the vet last Thursday and discovered they had multiple issues and were in need of multiple medications.

Their eyes were so bad, that there was concern they might lose their eyesight. They are still recuperating, but we can see their pupils now, and their stuffiness from the URI is gone.

We appreciate any donation amount, no donation is too small! Donations can be made using the following Paypal link paypal.com/us/fundraiser/charity/3494284

We appreciate your support by sharing this post as well!

Meet Crowley:

Crowley made the decision to run across the street one night when we were looking for other TNR cats. Once we realized he was a kitten we couldn’t leave him outside. He was sitting under the cars crying at us. He was so scared, but so hungry he finally ventured out and into the trap and we brought him home to start his new life. He’s missing quite a bit of hair on his head from mites, but we’re treating that now and he’s already feeling much better. He is still learning how toys work, but I’m sure he’ll be a fan of them in no time. He’s a vocal guy who loves to be held while you pet him and loves to snuggle up with you.

Meet Lilith:

Lilith was hard to catch and evaded our efforts for many weeks. Once we finally trapped her she was very scared and hissed at us every chance she got. Over a week we pet her while she ate and she realized that she’s in a safe place, so now she loves to be pet all the time. She enjoys playing with toys and the other cats, but most of all she loves getting attention from humans. She’s a huge cuddle bug.

Meet Sam and Dean:

Dean is fearless guy who isn’t scared of much which is what makes him such a great big brother to Sam. He also likes to play with toys and snuggle Sam on their hammock. Dean is very independent and loves to play with the other cats or toys. Dean is the handsome grey boy.

Sam is a guy who’s kind of shy, but warms up quickly. He loves to run and play with his big brother Dean. He likes to play with toys and snuggle up with Dean on their hammock. Sam is also very independent and loves to play with the other cats or toys. Sam is the handsome tabby.

Update On Amara:

By the time we got to the ER Amara was too painful to be handled, so we gave permission for sedation. Once she was sedated they took x-rays of her to see if we could find any broken bones. Amara’s x-rays came back indicating that she had a chip fracture on hip. We opted to wait for the official radiology report to come back before we went forward with anything else since she may need surgery to fix it. When the radiology report came back it indicated that surgery was not needed, but Amara was still acting pretty painful and not neurologically appropriate, so we decided to monitor her for a few more hours while we considered our options because the Dr. indicated that there could have been head trauma that was causing her aggressive behavior. We wanted to bring her home and give her a chance at recovery to be adopted out, but Amara was going to have to be tolerant of us giving her pain meds through her recovery. After several more attempts of trying to handle her it became apparent that she either had some sort of head trauma or possibly a slipped disc since she seemed to be more painful around her neck than anywhere else. With that information we decided that it would be best to have Amara put to sleep. Thank you for everyone contributed to Amara’s care.

Meet Amara:

I was driving my daughter home from her little gym class when my mom called me to say there was a cat that we had helped TNR at Mamacita’s that they thought had got hit by a car. Naturally I said I would go over to see how bad she was and if I would be able to pick her up on my own.

When we got there I walked along the patio to see where she was hiding and I found her next to one of their huge pots. I walked inside to ask if I could go onto the patio to see if I could pick her up. They were very nice and helped me get to her. As I approached she showed no signs of aggression so I decided to scruff her to see her response. She was very unhappy and clearly in pain, so I decided it was best to leave her there while I went to get a carrier from home. We left and came back 20 mins later with a carrier. I asked again to go onto the patio and they once again helped me get to her, but this time there people eating just on the other side of the wall she was behind. She seemed unbothered by them and unbothered by me as I approached. I placed the towel over her and picked her up as gently as I could and placed her into the carrier, the poor baby cried out in pain so loud.

We have taken her to an emergency animal hospital to be evaluated. When we arrived she was very unhappy and growling, so she’s being sedated so she can be examined and they will do x-rays for her to see where we should go from her. If you would like to help contribute to Amara’s care please considering donating to us or you can share this post to help others see her story. I’ve posted the PayPal link below. (We are not using facebooks donate feature at this time because it takes 30 days to receive the money donated.)

We will update as soon as we can.

Who remembers Dixie?

Today is the one-year anniversary of her rescue from Bear Creek Park! Since we failed to announce her adoption when it occurred, we thought we would share an update from her wonderful family. Dixie now Sissy has come so far in year!

Dixie was in our care for five months while we treated her leg injury with weekly bandage changes and crate rest to let it heal. After we knew her leg was on the right track, we tackled her Heartworms which required more crate rest! She was champ through it all! Even Dr. Ray at Jersey Village Animal Hospital mentioned several times what a wonderful dog she is! And finally, she was spayed and ready for her forever home who was anxiously awaiting her arrival!

Sissy is living the life all dogs should with her new mom, dad, four-legged brother Bravo and even a little four-legged cousin who is 10 years old and a little set in her ways 😊 Sissy takes it all in stride. We are so excited for Sissy and her family as she celebrates her first Christmas in her forever home filled with love, and stocking goodies!

Bonus photos in the comments! It was hard to pick just a few, they all just make our heart so happy

Good morning everyone! I am sure everyone has been wondering where we have been and what we have been up to since we haven't posted lately. We want to apologize for disappearing, but we have been working behind the scenes and to say we have been BUSY is an understatement!

You see the "D" in M & D Rescue Duo, had a baby and our rescue has grown by two feet! Kylie was
born 6/30/19 7:29 AM at 7 lbs. 1 oz and 20 inches long (picture in the comments).

I am sure some people are thinking golly no post for months because of a baby?!? Well you see our home is really set up for the comfort of our personal and foster pets, if you have adopted from us you are probably aware of this because you have visited our home.
When your home has been transformed for animals for so many years it takes some time to get things to be able to accommodate a baby, cats and dogs while causing the dogs and cats the least amount of stress possible. Of course, while all the changes were going on in our home, we were still working our "regular" jobs and working behind the scenes on adopting out dogs and cats in our care, caring for our own pets’ during their illness and helping out where we could in the community despite our intake being closed.

Our intake will remain closed as we catch up on our expenses and adjust to life with a new baby in the house. As is common with animal rescue our expenses exceed income but we have some handmade items, including a couple of quilts, made my one of my wonderful friends that we are going to try using eBay charity auctions to auction off. While we work on getting that up and running, we will be posting to get you caught up on adoptions that have occurred while we were on a Facebook hiatus and showcase Oliver our remaining cat who is still looking for his forever home.

Thank you all for your support and understanding during this time of transition!

Good morning! I am sure everyone is wondering where we disappeared to? Don't worry we are still here!
We will have a post updating details on what we have been up to soon!

In the meantime we are hoping everyone will help us share the article Byline Houston wrote about our sweet boy Oliver who is still looking for his forever family.

We love it when adopters share photos with us!

Denny was a cat we trapped for TNR, he wasn't doing well after his neuter so we brought him inside unsure of what to expect, turns out he was love bug who surely belonged to someone at some point. Denny had some tummy issues and was FIV positive but one of the sweetest cats ever! We got him healthy and he was adopted in February and is now living the comfy live indoors as it should be

PQ aka Paul Quinn was found in February and had a potential adopter before we even had to post about him on our page!

We found him one evening while we were out looking for another dog. He had no collar, tags or microchip :( so we posted on several pages in the area he was found attempting to locate his owner, and while we didn't hear from anyone claiming PQ as theirs we did have several people express interest in adopting him

We have had several adoptions the past few weeks and we are a little behind on sharing the wonderful news!

Dewy's adoption is official today! The little guy we found at the Pepsi plant in La Porte has a wonderful furever home with a mom, dad, kid and even a cat! They said he has basically been the perfect dog since day one

Look! No splint! Dixie is such a good girl just watching the squirrels at the park. She is still on restrictions while she completes her Heartworm treatment and will have at least one more xray of her leg, but she is taking applications for her forever family!
