Winter Weather Tips for Pet Safety ❄️🌨️

Houston friends, as we reflect on the big freeze from two years ago, let’s prepare to keep our pets safe during cold weather emergencies. 🐾

𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗶𝗽𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝘂𝗿𝗿𝘆 𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀:

𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝗪𝗮𝗿𝗺: Bring pets indoors and ensure they have a cozy, draft-free spot to rest.
𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗣𝗮𝘄𝘀: Watch out for icy sidewalks or salted areas that can irritate their paw pads. Wipe their paws clean after walks!
𝗟𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘁 𝗢𝘂𝘁𝗱𝗼𝗼𝗿 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲: Short potty breaks are best during extreme cold. No dog wants frostbite!
𝗛𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 & 𝗙𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗹: Cold temps burn more energy—make sure they’re fueled up and have fresh water.
𝗘𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗽: Stock up on pet food, meds, and a backup power source for their needs.

Holiday Plant Safety Alert for Pet Parents! 🐾🌿

The holiday season brings beautiful decorations and festive cheer, but it’s important to know that some popular plants can pose serious risks to our furry friends. Here are 8 common plants to watch out for:

1️⃣ Mistletoe – Highly toxic, mistletoe can cause vomiting, difficulty breathing, and even heart problems in dogs.
2️⃣ Tulips – The bulbs are especially dangerous and can lead to stomach upset, drooling, and even heart irregularities.
3️⃣ Amaryllis – Known for its bright blooms, this plant can cause vomiting, diarrhea, and lethargy in pets.
4️⃣ Hyacinth – Particularly the bulbs, which can cause intense irritation in the mouth, drooling, and severe stomach discomfort.
5️⃣ Cyclamen – Ingesting this vibrant plant can cause drooling, vomiting, and potentially fatal heart abnormalities.
6️⃣ Foxglove – Every part of this plant is toxic, affecting the heart and leading to life-threatening symptoms.
7️⃣ Daffodil – Beautiful but deadly, the bulbs can cause severe vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and heart issues.
8️⃣ English Ivy – This plant may look innocent, but ingestion can lead to vomiting, abdominal pain, and drooling.

For pet parents, prevention is key! Keep these plants out of reach or opt for pet-safe alternatives to decorate your home. If you suspect your pup has ingested any of these, contact your vet immediately.
