ADOPT OR FOSTER A NEW FRIEND!
MEET PANCAKE! She is a 2–3 year old, female Sharpei-mix, and is looking for a new fur-ever home! She would also love a foster family in the meantime while we find her new family.
First and foremost, Pancake is a lover—a bright, playful spirit with a deep desire to connect, engage, and find belonging. She craves human companionship and is open to interacting with other dogs, though she may need time to feel comfortable in a new environment. Pancake will likely take several months to adjust to a new home, so a patient, knowledgeable owner is essential to set her up for long-term success.
She shows a strong interest in smaller dogs and cats, so caution is advised during the first few weeks of introductions, especially if there are smaller animals in the home.
Pancake appears to be potty-trained, but due to her initial apprehension in unfamiliar spaces, she will do best with leashed walks to a designated bathroom area until she gains more confidence in her new environment.
Pancake enjoys walks and does well with a slip leash or martingale collar. With some training, she may adapt to a harness, but currently, she tends to try to back out of collars if she feels scared.
While Pancake has shown some signs of resource guarding, she communicates her discomfort appropriately and gives clear warning signs. We recommend feeding her in a separate space and avoiding toy sharing in the short term. With time and stability, I believe these guarding tendencies will improve. Pancake also has a mild disability, but nothing she can’t overcome.
Above all, Pancake seeks human companionship, belly rubs, and snuggles. She loves the warmth of a soft dog bed and will greet you with enthusiasm. Given her desire for human attention, some separation training will be necessary as she builds trust. Crate training is suggested to help with this process, as she may bark initially when left alone.
Ideal Home for Pancake:
Pancake would thrive with an adopter who has a regular, dependable work schedule and no more than 1–2 other pets. Ideally, the home should be cat-free, but with proper introduction and patience, she could potentially coexist with them. Her ideal home will be one where she can get regular walks and plenty of physical activity. Due to her size and energy level, an adopter who enjoys occasional bursts of high-energy play will be a great fit.
She is currently at Memorial Veterinary Clinic, so please give us a call or stop by to meet her.
