Ah, National Puppy Day, a time to reminisce on the joy and innocence of our furry, four-legged friends. I remember the days of coming home to a wagging tail and a wet nose, ready to play and cuddle without a care in the world. There's something so heartwarming about the unconditional love and pure happiness that puppies bring into our lives. From their clumsy antics to their adorable puppy eyes, they have a way of melting our hearts and leaving a lasting impression. Today, let's celebrate the precious memories and the endless joy that puppies bring. ❤️

~ TIP TUESDAY ~

When making tasty treats for your furry friend, here are some things to consider...

The Flour: Some dogs are allergic to flour/wheat. If you want to make treats wheat free, you can use rice flour of coconut flour as a replacement. These alternate flours will work but might change the consistency a bit.

The Peanut Butter: Some peanut butter brands include xylitol to cut the sugar in their peanut butter. DO NOT use any peanut butter containing xylitol as it is toxic to dogs. Just check the ingredients or go for a natural peanut butter.

Honey: While honey contains many vitamins and antioxidants that are great for your dog, there are a couple of things to note. Avoid giving honey to immunocompromised dogs and dogs under 1 year old as it may contain bacteria that can be dangerous for them. Honey also should not be given to diabetic or obese dogs as it is high in sugar and calories.

Just because National Train Your Dog Month is coming to an end doesn't mean you should stop! If your dog has good manners at home, let's take it up a notch and test them out in public. One of the most frequent training goals our clients have is teaching their dog how to greet people politely. Teaching a dog not to jump requires a lot of practice in a lot of settings! So when you are ready to take your dog from a good dog to a great dog, let us know! We would be happy to take them to the next level! https://buff.ly/3Ftlg98

Today is Change a Pet's Life Day and there are so many things you can do on this day to change the life of a pet, not all of which include bringing one home. By donating your time to a shelter, you are helping animals get the care that they need to be happy and healthy. If you don't have a lot of time to spare, you can sponsor an animal or make charitable contributions. Spread awareness about how people can help a shelter, and make sure to give your own pets the love and attention they deserve today and everyday! 😘

January is Weight Loss Awareness month! One way we can maintain a healthy weight is through exercise. This goes for our furry friends too! Swimming is an excellent form of exercise for your dog – and for you! It does wonders for overall health, providing an aerobic workout that also tones and strengthens muscles. It can be especially beneficial as therapy for dogs who are rehabilitating from an injury or surgery, have joint problems, or are older or overweight. Plus, diving in with your canine companion can be a great way to foster the bond you two share. Here are the top 5 Benefits of getting your dog in the water! 💦

1. It Improves Overall Health
Swimming is one of the best, most complete forms of exercise for your dog. Just one minute of swimming equates to four minutes of running!

2. It’s Joint-Friendly
Swimming is low-impact, non-concussive, and non-weight bearing, meaning it allows your dog to enjoy all the benefits without putting stress on their joints and tendons.

3. It’s Stress-Relieving
Not only is swimming great for your dog’s physical health, it also improves their mental well-being.

4. It Can Be Pain-Relieving – Warm Water Swimming
Swimming in warm water can be an excellent form of therapeutic exercise for dogs, aiding in the recovery process by strengthening joints, facilitating circulation, and helping fortify muscles.

5. It’s Great for Overweight Dogs
In the case of overweight dogs, it can be difficult to provide them adequate exercise on land without overworking already-stressed joints and muscles.

If your new years resolution included being more active, let your dog join in the fun! January is National Walk Your Dog Month! Walking together is a great time to focus on training your dog and strengthening the bond between you. To get the most out of your time together, don’t walk and talk on the phone. Use this time to focus on your pet. Make the walk pleasant for you and your dog. Oh, and always carry bags for cleaning up and disposing of doggie p**p. Leaving dog waste is not only a health hazard but in many cities, you can actually be fined! Don’t forget to hydrate, carry water for yourself and your dog, especially in warmer weather. But most of all, have fun!

Today may be a day perfectly suited for your pooch! Cheer up the lonely day is a selfless holiday for showing people you care (family, friend or strangers). Although not all dogs want to be bombarded with attention, if you have a well behaved and attention loving pup, consider taking them out and allowing people to greet them! Love from a friendly dog can brighten any animal lover's day!

Also, for those attention loving pups, consider getting them trained and tested for the Canine Good Citizen before enrolling them as a therapy dog! Hospitals, nursing homes, schools and many more have programs that can use dogs to cheer up those who may be a little down or lonely.

Some of us have jobs that make it easy to become a workaholic! After all “when you love what you do, you never work a day in your life,” right?

Well today, reflect for a moment on how much you do for your job and maybe take a day to yourself to appreciate your own dedication and hard work by:
1. Taking a day off
2. Extending your independence day
3. Binge watching your favorite shows

Although work is important, please always remember that your social life is just as important and keep an eye open for those signs of pesky stress. Always keep in mind, your pooch would love to help you destress for a day!

Happy Independence Day from our Walks of Life Family to yours! Enjoy your celebrations but please be safe and responsible!

Also please remember that many dogs are fearful of fireworks so be respectful of dog owners and take some of these precautions with your own pooches to keep them from becoming too fearful or running away!

For more info, feel free to visit:

The lead up to Bonfire night can be traumatic for many dogs. The loud bangs and flashes created by fireworks are often very frightening.

Your dog may or may not be a big fan of this daily “home intruder” but be sure to thank all of the men and women who work tirelessly 6 days a week to ensure that we receive all of our mail! Maybe leave them a little note or gift in your mailbox if you’d like to show some extra appreciation.
