Excited to introduce our newest associate, Dr. Tacam!

Dr. Tacam graduated from the Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2022. She also obtained her undergraduate degree from Texas A&M. After spending a few years in the Austin area, she is excited to return to her hometown. She is looking forward to building bonds with patients and their owners. Dr. Tacam enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine, but has special interest in soft tissue surgery and cardiology. In her free time, Dr. Tacam enjoys running, visiting museums, and attending live sports.

Due to ongoing weather conditions and concern for the safety of our team members and clients the clinic will be remaining closed for the day. We've received the following noticies from nearby emergency clinics.

VERGI- Is open but with very limited staff. Services should be reserved for true medical emergencies.

Veterinary Emergency Group (Houston Heights)- Currently open but may close soon due to unreliable power.

Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists- GCVS emergency services are currently closed

07/08/2024

In light of current weather conditions the clinic will delay opening until 10am today. If your pet has an appointment scheduled with us before 10am we will reach out at some point today to reschedule. We continue to hope that everyone in our area remains safe.

07/07/2024

We are monitoring the weather and will wait to see what happens overnight to decide if the clinic will have a delayed start, forced weather closure, or resume business as usual. Once we've assessed things in our area we will provide another email update around 6:30am tomorrow with a decision that is safest for you and our team members. We hope for the best and that everyone remains safe.

The power has gone out in our area. All pets currently with us, including our surgery patients, are doing well. However, we are without phones and internet. This means we have very limited communication. We are looking for updates from CenterPoint and will pass them along as we have them.

UPDATE: Power has been restored. We are working now on listening to voicemails and returning phone calls.

The clinic is without power. If power does not return by noon we will close for the remainder of the day. Unfortunately, we are unable to receive calls at this time. If your pet is in need of emergency or urgent care VEG has power and is able to see patients.

Yesterday was a sad day for us. We had to say goodbye to our clinic cat, Pigpen. He was a beloved member of our team for over a decade. He will be missed dearly. Thank you, Pigpen, for your companionship- you were so loved by many.

After over a decade of using the same practice management software we have made the switch to a more advanced program. We are very excited about the increased efficiency in workflow this software will bring. Additionally, with this update comes a new patient portal that provides clients access to complete medical records including vaccination history, medical notes, and diagnostic results. Clients will also be able to access all invoice and payment information, which is helpful for those using pet insurance.

Please email our Client Service Representatives at [email protected] if you would like us to create your pet’s patient portal!

Current WHVC app users-
This patient portal will be replacing our clinic app effective 5/1/23. Please contact us if you would like us to create your pet’s new patient portal!

This week is recognized nationally as veterinary technician week. However, at Washington Heights Veterinary Clinic, we use this week as an opportunity to recognize our entire staff. Without them, we would not be where we are today. While we strive to show the staff gratitude and appreciation every day, we love taking this week to shower them with the extra rewards that they deserve. For those of you that work at Washington Heights Veterinary Clinic, we hope you feel our love and gratitude every day, but we especially hope you enjoy the week we have planned for you. For our clients, next time you come in, please remember to recognize all the wonderful people you encounter within our walls. They are, quite simply, the backbone of this practice. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to our kennel technicians, veterinary assistants, veterinary technicians, client service representatives, and veterinarians who have chosen to call Washington Heights Veterinary Clinic home. And a huge thank you to our management team for putting together an amazing week to recognize all that you do.

There is exciting news for cats with osteoarthritis (OA). Solensia, the FIRST and ONLY FDA-approved treatment to control cat OA pain, is now available through your veterinarian.

OA is a type of arthritis that happens when the protective tissue in the joints (cartilage) is worn down, causing bones to rub against one another. This results in chronic/continuous pain.

Solensia has demonstrated great efficacy in helping to manage OA pain and improve quality of life.

In our 13 years of practice, we have never been compelled to promote an FDA drug on social media. However, we feel this is important information to share as so many senior cats quietly suffer from OA pain. We are excited to now have this once-monthly injection as a safe, targeted, and effective option to help our feline OA patients.

If you are in a position to help, please consider making a contribution to The Florida Veterinary Medical Association Foundation (FVMA). These funds will help support those who have lost so much in the aftermath of hurricane Ian to obtain needed medical care for their beloved pets. The Florida Medical Association Foundation supported the Houston area during hurricane Harvey. It would be wonderful to return that support in their time of need.

I have been looking forward to making this post for a little over 4 years now. It is with great excitement that I get to announce Carter McAdoo (son of Tracy McAdoo D.V.M/owner) has graduated from Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine. He will be returning to WHVC as our newest associate in June!

Carter, your WHVC family is so incredibly proud of you!
