would like to take moment to shout out these three lovely individuals, who have been helping out so much at the farm this fall: Van, Hussein, and Hamida. They were introduced to us by the inspiring folks at , (specifically the dynamic , who is PIF’s Farmer Education Manager) and are working with us for a six month internship program.

They all hail from Burma (Myanmar) and, though we are meant to be the instructors in this whole arrangement, have taught us a great deal about the world and brightened up the farm for the last number of weeks. We’d like to give our thanks to for running a fantastic organization…please give them whatever support you can, as that support results directly in folks like Van, Hussein, and Hamida being able to spend time exchanging experiences with us .

This will be the last weekend before Thanksgiving, so come on out to any of the following farmers markets this weekend and stock up for the annual fall festival of turkey and starch (and VEGETABLES)!

Whaaaat?

Is that lettuce actually growing in a hydroponic greenhouse quite literally built to grow hydroponic lettuce? Why yes. Yes indeed it is.

While we must manage your expectations and say WE WILL NOT HAVE LETTUCE TOMORROW…we can quite happily say that we will have lettuce NEXT WEEK, and will be returning to a few more farmers markets with the leafy greens that you guys have all come to expect from us, and to love.

Small amounts of these babies are, however, going out this weekend, specifically for our lovely FarmBox customers, who are getting the first of the season taste because, well, we love our FarmBox customers!

After a week like we’ve had, it might be that this little frog has the right idea. Amphibianism may be the way forward for us all.

As we have just passed the summer solstice, replete with a full 14 hours of daylight, we would like to introduce you guys to Jimmy Nardello peppers, which thrive in such extended daylight hours.

These peppers are all sweet (SUPER SWEET!) even though they have a look reminiscent of cayennes or various other types of scorchers. Be not afraid, they are like candy and want to be your friend.

Whelp, folks, it’s been a hairy few days, but here is a hope-filled picture for you all. Disregard the fact that your humble photographer was doing his best to capture the many bolts of lightning that were striking just behind the rainbow pictured above!

is pleased to report that our relatively light-duty greenhouses weathered the storms, and we have power and working pumps and refrigeration, and so we’ll be at all our normal markets tomorrow. Our dry storage, fences, and the rest are another story. We had four or five 40 foot trees come down from neighboring lots at the back of the property, one of which did a pretty serious number on the lean-to under which we store a lot of our dry goods, growing media, and the like. Check out our story to see the “tree that shouldn’t be there” in person.
