March is women’s history month and we are taking a quick trip back to the 1950s. Lis Hartel was a Danish dressage rider who is credited for being the inspiration for therapeutic riding. She contracted Polio at the age of 23 which led to loss of sensation below the knee and weakness in her arms and legs. Her silver medal win at the 1952 Olympic games led to the awareness that people with disabilities can benefit from horseback riding.
Jumping back to the present day, there are over 873 PATH Intl. centers helping riders of all ages and abilities. We want to give a shoutout to all the amazing women who are helping riders inside and outside of the arena. We could not do what we do without you!
