Ellie's 10-year anniversary 🥳💕

When Ellie’s fur mom first met her, her heart melted, carrying Ellie like a baby! Ellie has been charming everyone with her sweet puppy-dog eyes for a decade now!

She has the most adorable howl to announce when it’s time for breakfast and dinner. She’s also an amazing big sister to her fur siblings!

Her family says:
"We are so thankful for Ellie every day and are overjoyed to celebrate this milestone with her. She’s our sunshine and brings so much happiness to our lives." ☀️❤️

The Houston Humane Society Young Professionals Group Houston Humane Society Young Adult Professionals Club is back in full swing. 🐾💪

THANK YOU to all who joined us at our 2025 YAP kick-off party!

With the help of our incredible new YAP leadership team, we relaunched a new era for Houston Humane Society’s Young Professionals group (YAP)!

We kicked things off with a painting and beverages donated by Tejas Brewery & Taproom event at Painting with a Twist welcoming a sellout crowd of 50 new faces and raising $1,760 to support our mission.

What can you expect at an event?
Networking, raffle prizes, and maybe even a group sing-along to some favorite tunes with a community of young professionals who care for and value animals.

This success wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication and support of our amazing leadership board, committee members, partnership, and volunteers. Thank you for making this re-launch so memorable.

ATTENTION CAT LOVERS! 🚨

Fix Felix Day is almost here, and we’re offering FREE neutering for male cats in the Houston area to help reduce overpopulation and improve the health of our feline friends!

Here’s what you need to know:

📅 Date: February 19, 2025
Address: 14700 Almeda Rd. Houston Humane Society
💳 $10 deposit (applied to rabies vaccine)
🐈 Limit: 5 cats per person
🏠 Feral and domesticated cats are welcome!
🛡️ Safety first: All cats must arrive in a plastic crate.

💡 Why Fix Felix Matters
Each neutered cat can prevent hundreds of unwanted kittens from being born over their lifetime. This effort helps reduce the number of cats entering shelters and living on the streets, giving more felines a chance at happy, healthy lives. Spaying and neutering also decreases the risk of certain cancers and unwanted behaviors, making it a win for their health and for our community.

Our Bat Rehab Team in snow action! ❄️

The team braved the cold temps checking in on our Houston Bats!

This winter storm was tough, but our Houston bats proved their resilience! 🦇❄️

Our Mexican free-tailed bats survived during the winter storm.

With this being the third hard freeze in just over two years, it seems our bats are learning to adapt to Houston’s unpredictable weather. Some may have migrated to warmer climates or better roosting spots, while others engaged in large feeding sessions before the freeze to prepare for the harsh conditions.

These incredible animals show us the power of adaptation and survival.

🌿 Fun Bat Fact: Bats are nature’s pest control! 🦇 One bat can eat up to 1,000 mosquitoes in just an hour, helping to reduce pests and protect crops naturally. They’re also pollinators for plants like bananas, mangoes, and agave (used to make tequila!). Cheers to our eco-heroes! 🌎💚

Our foster pets had an UN-FUR-GETTABLE time experiencing their very first snow day! ❄️

From excited sniffs to full-on zoomies in the snow, they had the best time ever living their snow day dreams. 💙

This heartwarming moment was made possible thanks to our fosters, who helped create space at the shelter by temporarily housing some of our adoptable pets. This allowed us to prepare for the expected influx of stray, lost, and abused animals after the recent freeze.

If you housed a stray animal during the freeze and can’t keep them, we’re here to help.

Intake services will be available by appointment only and can be scheduled by emailing,

🚨 Weather Update: Prioritizing Safety and Animal Care 🚨

For the safety of our staff, volunteers, and animals, the Houston Humane Society will remain CLOSED TODAY (Wednesday) due to hazardous road conditions. We plan to REOPEN TOMORROW (Thursday).

Here’s how we’re staying proactive:

Caring for Our Animals: Our dedicated team is working tirelessly to keep every shelter animal safe and comfortable during this cold snap.

Addressing Overcrowding: With the help of our incredible foster families, we’ve temporarily placed some long-stay animals in foster homes. This allows us to make space for homeless pets and animal cruelty cases in urgent need of shelter.

Managing Intake: When we reopen, intake will be BY APPOINTMENT ONLY to ensure proper care. Priority will be given to homeless/stray animals and animals from cruelty cases.

To make an appointment please email [email protected]

We are currently experiencing a high volume of reports. Please be patient as we work to respond to each one accordingly.

Thank you for your understanding and support as we work to keep everyone safe! 💙

Rosie (formerly Petunia) is living proof that love and patience can transform lives!

When Rosie was rescued by Houston Humane Society in January 2022, she was part of a cruelty and hoarding case. Understandably, she was terrified of everything—including human touch. But her adopter saw past her fears and gave her a chance at a brighter future.

The journey wasn’t easy. It took six months of gentle care and trust-building before Rosie felt safe enough to let her mom touch her. Fast forward three years, and Rosie’s transformation is nothing short of remarkable. Just last month, she hopped on the couch to cuddle for the very first time! 💛

Thanks to her loving adopter, Rosie is living her best life, soaking up the sun, and sharing her sunshine smile with everyone around her.

Cheers to three amazing years of Gotcha Days and a lifetime of love ahead! 💕

A snow day at the Houston Humane Society looks a little something like this...

Our shelter pets are safe, warm, and cozy in their heated rooms. The pups enjoyed being tucked in with blankets, thanks to our amazing friends at CUDDLY ❤️. We’re so grateful to provide our animals with the comfort of indoor kennels, keeping them snug and away from the harsh winter weather.

Due to the weather conditions, Houston Humane Society is CLOSED (TODAY) Tuesday, January 21st. We are monitoring the weather activity and are evaluating conditions for Wednesday, January 22nd. Any updates will be published on our website.

If you see an owned animal left outside without shelter, report it immediately to Harris County Animal Cruelty Taskforce OR Houston SPCA at https://s.mtrbio.com/zzrwmrgnut , https://s.mtrbio.com/pnsdklvgkj

🦆 Frozen wildlife?

Don’t pull them off the ground—it can hurt them.

Pour warm (not hot) water around them to free them.

Do not offer food or water—just place them in a secure container with a dry cloth.

Help Keep Neighborhood Strays Safe This Winter ❄️

Cold weather can be especially harsh for animals without a warm place to call home.

Here’s how you can help:

Create a shelter: Use straw instead of blankets—straw repels moisture and stays warm, while blankets can freeze and become unsafe.

Provide food & water: Wet food is easier to digest, but dry food won’t freeze. Refresh water bowls twice daily or use heated bowls to prevent freezing.

Check your car: Tap the hood before starting your engine. Cats and wild animals often seek warmth under cars or in the wheel wells.

Report neglect: If you see an owned animal left outside without shelter, report it to Harris County Animal Cruelty Taskforce immediately.

Stay safe Houston 💙
