Typically, puppies require about 6 to 10 hours of sleep daily. Every puppy is different, with some needing up to 20 hours a day to maintain their high levels of energy. However, by 16 weeks, most breeds will be able to sleep throughout the night. Daytime napping is perfectly healthy for your growing baby dog and is nothing to be concerned about. Sleep is essential for healthy development, and creating a schedule will help your pupper get the right balance of sleep and play time. New dog? 🐶 We can't wait to meet your furry family member! Schedule their visit today at (713) 987-3237.

Puppies start teething anywhere between 3-4 months old and can last until the age of 6 to 7 months. You’ll notice an increase in biting and nipping as your puppy loses more baby teeth and adult teeth start to grow in. Most pups decrease their mouthing and biting by the time they are 8 to 10 months old, depending on the breed. To ensure this doesn’t turn into a lifelong bad habit, follow these helpful tips to stop puppy biting. Do you have questions about how to care for your pup? Give us a call at (713) 987-3237 and we can provide you with more personalized care. 🐶

People aren’t the only ones that need routine checkups to make sure everything is fine with their health - your doggies do as well! When they are a pup, every few months is recommended for examination. After they are a year old, 1 to 2 times a year is ideal if they are healthy. We love your dogs as much as you do and want to keep them as healthy as possible! Contact us at (713) 987-3237 to schedule an appointment!

Is my dog overweight? There are a few easy ways to tell if your dog could do with losing a few pounds. If you are able to feel your dog’s backbone and touch their ribs, then they are at a healthy weight. If you cannot feel the ribs without pressing, then there is too much fat there. You should also be able to see a noticeable waist between the back of their rib cage and hips when looking at your pup from above, and there should be a ‘tuck’ in their tummy from the side. If your doggie fails these little tests, then there is a chance that they may be overweight. Don’t fret – we can help get them back on the right track to a healthy weight and long life! Give us a call at (713) 987-3237 to set up a health and diet plan for them today.

Like us, it is best to brush your dog's teeth at least twice every day. For many dogs, once brushing becomes a part of their daily routine, they will begin to expect and enjoy it. Brushing three times a week is the minimum recommendation to help remove plaque and prevent tartar accumulation.

The most common acquired heart disease in cats is hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) and it affects roughly 15% of the feline population. Dental health is just as important for dogs as it is for us. Without regular dental care, dogs can be prone to yellow or brown discolored teeth, bad breath, redness and swelling of the gums, eroded gums, and loose and missing teeth. The first tip for brushing your pup's teeth is using a soft-bristle brush or finger brush specifically designed for dogs and toothpaste made for dogs. Once you've gathered your supplies, it's time to get your pup situated.

Do you have questions about how to care for your pup? Give us a call at (713) 987-3237 and we can provide you with more personalized care.
