It's done! Well, mostly. Some babies are still in holding bins until I can get the rest of the rack bins cleaned out and prepped. I just couldn't physically do anymore lastnight. It's been nonstop all weekend getting the old carpet ripped up, walls painted, trim sanded and stained, flooring installed, 7030 disassembled and then reassembled in the room, deep clean of the black V-6 racks, and all the countless other little things that go with completely redoing a snake room.
I'm happy with the results, but man am I tired. 😴

This is the smaller of the two reptile rooms, but it's been in desperate need of a rework for ages. Nothing worse than old and ugly carpet in a room with animals. 😂
We brought home a new ARS 7030 from Tinley, which means there's a lot of rearranging to do, so what better time to do a full remodel with fresh paint, trim, outlets, and flooring! Can't wait to see everything come together!

We had a great time at the Mid-Atlantic Reptile Expo in Carlisle this past weekend. We met a ton of awesome people, and everyone got to meet our sweet boy, Norman. He handled all the attention like a pro and so many people fell in love with him. I don't think everyone realized he was looking for a new home, because I guarantee it would have happened if they had. 😅
We were joined by Raeann of Gizzyballs who was immensely helpful as she got experience behind the vendor table. It would have been a tough day without her, as our table was nonstop busy from the moment the doors opened. It was wonderful!
In the photo Raeann is handling Norman while we both answered questions and provided care information to this family who was in the planning stage of getting a snake in the near future.
(I promise my arms aren't broken. I didn't realize just how much I overextend my elbows sometimes. 😂)

🐍 Exciting News! 🐍 This weekend, we'll be vending at Mid-Atlantic Reptile Expo in Carlisle, PA and bringing along some amazing snakes for you to meet! Also for the first time we will be bringing along some mourning geckos! These tiny geckos are easy to care for and a joy to watch. They make great pets for first-time reptile or gecko keepers! My sleep was ruined lastnight. I fed the geckos, watched them come out of the woodwork to eat, and not long after turned their light off for bed. Some of the shy ones come out after the light is off, so I went about my routine and before getting into bed I shined my phone screen in to see if any more had come out only to see a huge segmented carapace hunched over the feeding cup. I nearly dropped my phone. I immediately knew it was a dubia, but thousands of thoughts all scrambled into my brain at once. I was UNWELL. 😅
I bought some dubia LAST NOVEMBER for the geckos. Literally the only time I've ever bought some for them since they are only appropriate for the adults and I worry about too much chitin. Anyway, one of them clearly survived the geckos until it grew large enough to no longer be threatened. I...am now an unwilling pet parent to a massive female dubia roach. I am still unwell, but since she's no threat to the geckos, and I will not be getting more, I've decided she can stay. (And no, it has absolutely nothing to do with my complete aversion to getting anywhere near the thing, I swear. 🥲)
Also, don't mind the dumped over feeding cups. The geckos love to cause chaos and usually after lights out they knock them all over the place when empty. I imagine if I had been using feeding ledges this whole time the roach wouldn't have survived. 🤔

This handsome sweet boy was a surrender and I've had him and another who came with him for a while now. His name is Button and he's an absolute delight. He's currently looking for his forever home as a pet only. 💙

Absolutely LOVING these two I picked up at Tinley. They were a mystery pair, but I suspected red stripe and we knew there's YB complex, just not sure if it's asphalt or YB. Regardless, they are phenomenal examples of red stripe. This is the exact kind of expression I like to see with it.

It's the first day of archery season here in PA, so things are a little extra busy. For me, this is when fall truly starts, so I had to change up the photo setup and these babies are looking great!

The blue-eyed lucy in this clutch is pretty unique. I'm seeing a very subtle pattern that I can't wait to see after it sheds.
Also as an update on this clutch, the third hatchling did not survive. It pipped on its own, but made no further progress. I checked on it to find it had passed away and was severely deformed. It would have required euthanasia if it had made it out of the egg.

As the saying goes: "Incubate until there's no debate!"
That's definitely the case here. I was 100% sure egg 1 would go back and mold after a couple of weeks. I saw zero veins and the eggshell was thin and soft. The whole thing felt sort of like a water balloon. I've seen eggs like this before, and they were always infertile, even though they looked normal. Even so, I always put them in the incubator "just in case" and this one was no different.
Much to my surprise, when I pulled the press n seal off the tub, I was greeted with three healthy-looking eggs that had begun to dimple!
While I can't guarantee the health of these babies, I can at least say they were all fertilized! So consider this a reminder that even if an egg doesn't seem like it'll hatch, it's always best to incubate them anyway until it becomes glaringly obvious it will not hatch.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for these littles ones. They should be making their appearance within the next couple of days. They're being incubated at a slightly lower temperature, so they are probably going to be a smidge late.
