Today, we experienced a tragedy along side a wonderful family. *Please, leash your pets before exiting your vehicle to come in for a visit*. Anything can happen in the blink of an eye. Hug your babies a little tighter this evening in honor of the loss of a sweet little girl.

CONGRATULATIONS TEAM FISHER!!

We are so proud to be part of this! Fisher and his mom are Bark Avenue regulars who attended his first show over the weekend! He is the first and only poodle groomed for show by Kassandra and he took Best of Breed and a Gun Dog Group 2 at just 6 months old!! His breeder and handler have the hard part. We just get to polish him up a bit😁 Very excited for thier future!!

I saw this on Facebook and it is 100% true. I wonder why we have not seen a regular in a while and hope they are ok. I try to remember if I told you about a new lump or ear infection, worry that I didn't and sometimes call you the next day to tell you something I already told you. Every pup we see is important to us. Every single one.

The season is here! As much as we would love to help rid your adventurous pups of this particular odor of spring....we may not have an opening available! We have used this recipe for years with great success and thought it might come in handy😁

🦨 Skunks become very active in the spring because of mating season. With that activity comes a high risk of curious pets getting sprayed.
Fortunately, pet owners need not break out the tomato juice! A few staples that can picked up on the next grocery run are all it takes to cut the smell quickly and safely.

The “old” approach vs. The new modern approach
“Alpha” vs. “Mindful”
For years groomers have followed the philosophy of alpha training. This means dogs were forced through grooming. The customer gets what the customer wants at almost any means. Dogs were muzzled, held down sometimes by multiple groomers to get the tasks completed and keep clients happy. Neck scruffs were held, a dominating “NO” could be heard. This method got the job done while also traumatizing our pets, adding so much unnecessary risk that your dog would get hurt, your groomer would get hurt or equipment would get broken.

Times have changed. Dogs are not merely pets anymore, they are mans best friend! We know better now! We care what food they eat, we care if they get a thorn in their paw, we care if they are scared or happy.

The future of grooming is here with mindful groomers! The mindful grooming philosophy leaves room for a trustful bond to develop between your best friend and their groomer. This method does not care if the job gets done but instead helps your pet build confidence and a sense of safety. It includes warning your pet that a loud noise is about to occur, being gentle and patient, affection and breaks, bringing them back to calm before proceeding. This helps them be calm, comfortable and cooperative for grooming. Maybe every single task doesn’t get completed the first time, but with practice eventually they will be an amazing grooming dog. This will translate into better vet visits, less anxiety, safer experience and in my opinion is simply how mans best friend should be treated.

This is Maggie. Maggie was the first client to walk in the door of my very own shop, Bark Avenue in 2015. I have been lucky enough to groom her for 6 years... every 8 weeks or so. What a blessing it has been. Maggie is special to me. Her parents trusted me enough to drop her off that first day and to follow us up to Hoyt. She's slower now and a little achey sometimes but I know my Maggie and we adjust her care accordingly. Our job is a privilege. We appreciate the trust each of you place in us to take care of your pup. Hugs~Kassandra
