Graham says "look Mommy filled a nice clean cool pool for me to lay in. I should go play in the mud instead." Such typical little kids! We fill the pools a couple times a day because of all the splashing and mud and they still find the one mud hole in the yard to bury themselves in. Some people have asked WHY little Polly needed rescued. When we first took her in she was 10lb 4oz and lethargic from being nearly starved fighting her siblings for milk. She also had infectied bites all over her ears from her siblings chasing her away from mama. In 10 days, with proper care and antibiotics, Polly put on EIGHT lbs! That's almost doubling her weight. Our poor skin and bones baby became active and lively due to the care she received. Left in her herd, she would have faded away and this sweet little life would have been lost. Please consider helping her on the next step of her journey.

After being so TINY compared to her siblings, our little Polly, as in Polly Pocket, is finally healthy enough to be spayed!! We need your help to raise the funds to do so. At the end of the post are additional ways to donate. Every dollar counts!

As many of you have heard me complain, the cost of spays is skyrocketing, but that doesn't stop the importance of it. In fact, it may be more important for her, as Meishans were originally brought to the US so colleges could study their large litter sizes. This beautiful little baby was originally meant to be bred repeatedly so that her children could become food. Luckily one of our fosters saw her in the back of a truck at a Lowe's store and convinced them to give her to the rescue, because she wasn't thriving. Gallons of goat's milk (a huge thank you to Samantha), some antibiotics, and a ton of love later and she is now thriving, if a bit sassy.

We have one of the cutest special needs pigs ever! My daughter named her Phoenix because she rose from the ashes of being underweight due to her deformed upper jaw. Her bottom jaw is straight but the top curves to her right, causing her tongue to always hang out. It took a while to learn the best ways to feed her, but now she is plump and happy and only special needs because she has to be fed alone in a tray and given lots of time to eat.
She is still a bit shy but loves soft treats and is very gentle. She's on the smaller side and doesn't have a potbelly because she is part Ossabaw Island hog.

With all the piggies that keep running loose in Swansboro, we decided maybe the Swansboro police cadets should learn how to trap and flip pigs. We've also got them cleaning their nails getting them ready for their hoof trims. Watch out piggies, The next generation of police are coming for you. (For those of you not local, we have a couple habitual offender pigs who are great at escaping and who the police will catch and take home. This way they can corner and then hold the pig till a vehicle can get close enough to load.)

Rocky is being such a brave boy letting me get even this close, but when humans have used you as a BB gun target, it must take a lot of forgiveness and bravery to even be near a human. He still doesn't want to be pet or confined in a small area, but at least he's starting to trust enough to take treats from people. That's a huge amount of growth after being so horribly missused!
