Cat Barn Inc **INTAKES CLOSED*** NO KITTENS!
501c3 ADULT Scaredy Cat Rescue for Socialization, Relocation, Sanctuary, and Adoption. We are NOT a medical shelter.
(25)

At Risk ONLY** Amputees, Animal Cruelty, Euthanasia! All cats must be healthy! Contact Email & Appt Only! The founder started with a behavioral challenged adopted rescued cat in 2006. This cat named "BABY" hid under the bed for 2 months! Char, the founder, did not take the cat back but let Baby take her time to acclimate to her new home and eventually Baby started being social with her and a year

later started being social with the family and later started being social with anyone. Then Char had 2 more kids & they were diagnosed with behavioral or challenged disorders which also attributed her knowledge of dealing with behavior challenges. Baby passed away July 2021 & char decided to start a rescue. OUR THOUGHTS, MISSION, & INTAKES:

Some cats have behaviors, personalities, likes, & dislikes similar to people & we should respect that not knowing where they came from or what they have been through, especially being rescued from the street, injured, or coming from a deceased owner. We strive to evaluate all supposed "feral" cats that come in to our shelter to be evaluated for a minimum of 1 week to 30 days for proper placement & behavior evaluation. We do NOT place cats to Barns that are not able to be barn cats and are NOT feral. Many cats seem to mimic "feral" behavior in the outdoor environment but are in reality scared and want to be dependent upon humans as an indoor cat & life companion. We provide a second chance for the "RESCUED" cats to be able to live out their lives in placement where they want. We do NOT support what the COMMUNITY wants; we support what the CATS want & need! Evaluation is our mission! We have found that 80% of the cats that we receive as "feral" are actually social cats and were just scared to be outside. These cats do NOT need to go to barn homes! We also provide sanctuary and enclosed relocations for injured ferals (amputees, eye enocleation, deformities, etc.). We are unable to intake medically needy/sick ferals or unsocial cats at this time. However, we do take FIV positive cats.

NEW BALANCE UPDATE: NEED $155

Trying to raise $180 balance for ride on lawn mowers repair to maintain cat property areas and clean up trails for kitty feeding stations.

Hey everyone! We were blessed to find someone that was able to fix one of our ride on lawn mowers that have been sitting for years

Right before I had to go to light duty I had spent over 5 hours outside with an electric push mower and you are talking about tons of area to cover and multiple times a month! No wonder why my shoulder went out. 🙄

AMAZINGLY, one of the ride on mowers was able to be repaired and we just received the quote on this and we hope that we can raise funds so that we will be able to maintain all the cat areas and re-mow down our back trails that sit on around 3 acres that we want to install feeding stations along for the cats!

The total with pickup is $305. I paid the $50 for them to graciously come with a w***h and haul off and just received a $75 donation already towards it!

All that is owed now is $180 for us to get the repairs completed and save time, stress, labor, and much more!

If ANYONE would like to help with a donation towards this, please send via below:

Meet Taylor!

He came to us last year from Palm Beach County. He only warms up to his caregiver. He would make a sweet cat in a 1 to 2 cat household and was originally an owner surrender at the shelter suffering from fas with an EU deadline.

**CLOSED FOR INTAKE UPDATE*****
**MY (CHAR) MEDICAL HEALTH*****
**PLEASE ALL READ***

I am no longer able to over-exert myself with heavy lifting and continous manual labor daily due to doctors orders. I am diagnosed newly with myalgia in my right shoulder & neuritis on my entire right side. I have pre-existing arthritis in my back, carpel tunnel in both hands, sciatica, and a slipped disc since 22 years old and it is now taking its toll due to all the areas needing tending to daily.

My husband also works over 40 hours a week now & can't help with labor like he used.

I've experienced through the past years that It is easier to take care of free roam animals as per taking care of my free roam barn cats throughout the years vs the sheltered cats.

Also, let's just say with the recession this year we have had a decline in adoptions & barn cat relocations. And I do NOT just let the cats go anywhere and where they go is always decided with absolute confidence! I have denied adoptions, transfers, and relocations in the past years. The cats must thrive & that's why so many want cats to come here.

I am unable to continue to do relocations by myself, events, or even the monthly donation pick ups from the Brooksville Walmart. (If someone is local and has a truck or could ride with me for the lifting of any of these?)

Moving forward, we will ONLY take in (1) cat a month unless it's a dire situation and this will NOT be until November when we will have another spot open.

Donation fee ($500 total) for intake will be $250 to our vet account at Kind Animal Care that will be available next week to add funds too & $250 Chewy gift Card! The Cat MUST come with medical or additional fees for this will need to be provided and/or appointments can be made to one of our vets to take the cat as we may have lower pricing.

The Cat MUST be a scaredy or feral cat direct from outdoors!

If the cat does need further medical and needs to be transferred to a specific need rescue, then that cost will need to be provided in addition. If we know right after intake then we will forward partial of our received donation to the other rescue.

Unfortunately, due to the amount of time, effort, and what it takes to crate and socialize or decompress a cat I have to request (currently) no less than $1000 donation per cat if it needs to be evaluated! ****This takes a lot of work to do and I want to make sure it's done right and documented on my rescue page every step of the way for future education reasons. It may be a high $$ request to some, but if you know what I do then you would say my fee is not enough! Most of the cats stay here a very long time and/or are still here. The cost a month to run this rescue is around $3000-$4000.

****There will also be a donation fee for any travel, assistance, or Socialization help requested that will take me away from caregiver duties. Or volunteer work could also be supplemented if application is approved.

I would say if you absolutely care about the cat then you will pay the fee, if just trying to place then find a relocation. Continous monthly donators will ALWAYS come first for a spot to be considered, but these will be rotated and also cause for coming here will STILL be reviewed!

We will NOT take ANY friendly, deceased owner, hoarder, or indoor unsocial cats unless a lifetime caregiver & donations are agreed and written contract made! We DO NOT take kittens!!!!**

Also, to all of my partnering rescues that take our adoptable cats & want to do a "SWAP". We will NEVER do this again! An adoptable cat does not stay with your rescue for YEARS! You get an adoption fee and 90% of the time a fully vetted cat! We get a scaredy cat that needs to be evaluated and stays here 90% of the time! That DOESN'T make ANY sense! We STILL have transferred cats from 2021 and current!

We are turning into a free roam sanctuary for the outdoor feral & fas cats. All cats will still be up for adoption or relocation at all times, but will be able to free roam on our 5 acres and using some enclosures as feeding/shelter areas, some for acclimating, and others for the indoor/outdoor AC buildings. May take up to a year for completion**

I will NEVER make any promises that the cat sent here will stay here. At ANY time there are 1 out of 10 cats that will magically get out of carriers, buildings, crates, enclosures, and/or even the best secured fencing known to man. That's because they do NOT want to colonize, feel trapped, high anxiety, etc.. if an animal wants to leave, they will ALWAYS find a way! Just like the cats that are constantly running out the door..sometimes you can stop them and sometimes they are just that fast! ..like our Donte..😅

We are removing our phone number from the rescue page as of today. All inquires must be sent via email from today and future!

IF ANYONE HAS AN OPINION, DOESN'T LIKE THE POST, OR DISAGREES THEN PLEASE FEEL FREE TO UNFOLLOW IMMEDIATELY! No one should be taking care of what I do daily!

Special THANKS to My husband, daughter, son, Lee Charron Pamela Davignon Karyl Nystrom and Dee Marie for helping this past week with several needs. ❤️❤️❤️ and Jacquie for several donation pick up helps! And a few others including Susan Howland Victor when she was able.

CONTINOUS DONATORS: You know who you are and here is a huge thanks and hugs from the all of us and the kitties! 😻😻😻😻😻

Happy Wednesday! Honda is enjoying the outdoor weather.

He came to us over a year ago from a partner rescue as unadoptable. We found that he just likes to play rough and gets over-stimulated at times.

Otherwise, he is a sweet boy that just likes to have fun and attention. 😻😻😻

Due to lack of barn homes, volunteers, projects, and health issues arising for Char (myself) we are CLOSED for INTAKES! We are at CAPACITY!

We are ALWAYS in need of cleaning supplies, food, deep litter pans, $$ for vetting and VOLUNTEERS! AND....FOSTERS, BARN HOMES, AND ADOPTERS!

CONTACT CHAR (myself) via email or text for any $$ donations that can be directly added to one of our vet accounts for the kitties.

We also have our rescue listed on chewy with a wish list for the kitties here. We have only posted about an either of the cats so far.

I have been dealyed on posting currently due to nerve and back issues I have been dealing with for almost a month, which causes pain all on my right side from my shoulder to my finger tips and very difficult to do several tasks daily that use my hands and I have to delegate what is more important daily. Hope to do a video soon to talk with my followers. Till then..$1 a day helps feed a cat!

Meet Zeuss! He has been with us over a year. He was adopted out previously for foster adopt. Unfortunately, his owner passed away and he cane back to us last year.
He is still under socialized and runs from people. He had started a bond with his former adopter and we feel that if he had a home again then after a while he would form a new bond. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Macho is forever hiding in his cat condo. Better watch out when you get near, because he will surely let you know with a swipe that you are too close to his space. 🤣😅

He came to us last winter from Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center as a spicy kitty with a leg amputation (tri-pod) and has been here soaking up his freedom. 😻😻😻

We hope to let him explore the outdoors in the enclosures once the cool weather comes back around, but till then he is a resident in our front ac building.

Sweet Mia has been with us over a year. She originally came from Pasco County Animal Services as a deceased owner and she never quite fully came around after her ordeal. She had been in different indoor areas that we have here and ultimately didn't seem to do well in any of them.

This spring She was tried out in the outdoor area and is thriving. Hopefully, one day she can find a forever home and be adopted. Until then, she is cared and loved for here. 🥰🥰🥰

Hey its Char!
So...after 2 days of our home AC being out and my husband replacing the motor (thank god) it was under warranty. 🙏🙏 Then...

The water pump for the well goes out. A big shout out and thanks to our neighbor Rebecca for letting us clean some pans and fill all of these water jugs to support us while my husband is attempting to repair before we may have to spend over $1000 on well pump service.

I have been pretty busy the past few days calculating and manually entering the numbers of intakes & outcomes for reporting for applying for a grant and currently I am happy to report these numbers.

2023 Annual Reporting Information (still working):

Beginning year count: 72 residents
Annual Intake: 155 cats (FAS, Stray, Transfer, Surrender)
Annual Outcome: 132 (Barns,Adoptions, transfers, Other)
Annual in Care: 227 (Residents + intakes)
End Year Count: 95 Residents

2023 Saved percentage:
Total In Care: 95% Saved
Total Intake: 95% Saved

2023 Total In Care %:
41% Residents/Sanctuary
24% Barn Relocations
22% Transfer Adoptions
7% Adoptions
5% Rainbow Bridge***
1% Transfers for Medical Needs

***2023 5% Rainbow Bridge:
Became sick while here, came in sick, or sudden death of unknown cause. As everyone knows we are definitely a NO-kill rescue and try to the best that we can, but we are also dealing with a percentage of the cat community that is also very difficult to handle, contain, and get medical for in a decent time frame, locally, or even provided due to the behaviors of the cats here.

We also have had a few of immune difficient or seniors that fell ill in 2023 & this year and had a few of our scaredy cats pass away with no warning signs while in the free roam enclosures showing only signs of what could be cardiac issues and we call most of our cats "mystery cats".

I believe that for as limited volunteers that are available and trained that these numbers are amazing! To Believe that a majority of these cats may have ended up euthanized, alone outdoors to die, or possibly endure animal cruelty prior to our existance is something all of us should be proud to have helped support our mission!

We have turned what could have been 155 non-live outcome statistics in 2023 into 146 Saved Outcomes cats and with help from our supporters, community, partners, and especially the trappers!

NOTE: These numbers may be updated throught the year and reports for 2021 & 2022 will be generated as I go through entering all our data in a custom excel worksheet that I am creating due to low adoption numbers making it frustrating to use adoption focused animal welfare program platforms that charge $$ for outcomes when this rescue is primarily supposed to function on a flow system of transferring out the adoptable cats and saving the scaredy cats to be relocated to safe areas to extend their life instead of the alternatives.

I'll keep searching for those grants that will match our mission until then thanks for your support and we are still supported by community donations in goods, services, and monetary in order to continue our mission.
