Early mornings and late nights.
4 days ago, 6 days before her due date, 3yo 2F Void kidded without any notice. I fed the babies their last feed at 4am, by 10am there was a kid just standing in the Sr. pen. A quick check and it is not the doe we were expecting, but Void. And then I see it. A blob behind a round bales. I quickly run over to check and it is cold and gone. As I picked it up not one but two placentas were underneath this kid and both were attached. Speaking with one of my vets it appears that the last kid died in utero, placentas separated and Void went into labor early. We are lucky to even have one. A strapping buck kid. It took him a full 3 days before it finally clicked and he came around, but he is healthy and thriving.
Then, Saturday evening, as we were coming out for chores, I knew Doe B was getting close. She and another doe were fighting so I seperated her and got to milking. With no progress after chores I took a feel to find a thick sac and a kid having troubles making it through. It was a tough pull for Doe B but we managed to bring a decent sized buck kid into the world just as it was turning midnight. With no progress after.30 mins I once again go in and find a kid at the bottom and upside down, this one is also in an extra thick sac. It takes me a few but I manage to break it, flip the kid, get the head between the legs and pull. This one is a bit bigger than the last so it was a pleasant surprise to find out this gorgeous red chamoisee is a DOE!! Does B gave me just shy of a half a gallon of golden colostrum. All kids are fed and warm.
We are still waiting on Cafe who is 4 days overdue, Drama has hit her due date today, and Bungie is due in 2 days. We are getting close!!!
