Porter is here to remind you that sweater weather is here and these are a few important things to remember: ❄️

-If you are cold, it is more than likely your pet is cold too.
-Consider a warm dry coat but remember if it gets wet it can make your pet colder.
-Clean and wipe off paws to protect them from the rock salt to prevent injury: such as cuts and abrasions, and accidental ingestion (large amounts can become toxic). Booties can be useful to protect their paws.
-Knowing signs of Hypothermia: trouble walking, difficulty breathing, slow heart rate, and confusion are just a few.
-Checking under the hood of your car is often missed, but kitties often like to go there seeking warmth.

Everyone meet Kai! This 10 week old sweet boy came in for his first wellness exam with Dr. Zoccoli where he received his first of the FVRCP series. Here's some information on why we recommend this vaccine for cats, and the recommended schedule in order to give your furry feline the most protection.

The American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) recommendations for the FVRCP vaccine for all cats and kittens:

The FVRCP vaccine protects cats from three highly contagious and potentially life-threatening diseases: feline herpesvirus, feline calicivirus, and feline panleukopenia. It's one of two core vaccines that are highly recommended for all cats, regardless of whether they spend most of their time indoors or outdoors.

Vaccination schedule
Kittens should get their first FVRCP vaccination at 6–8 weeks old, followed by boosters every 3–4 weeks until they are 16–20 weeks old. After that, adult cats receive this vaccine at 1 year of age, and should receive a booster vaccine every 3 years.

We will see you in four weeks, Kai!
