Part 2: RIP my sweet Gulli. 2009-2022. Gulli came to us as a tiny tiny kitten that we had to bottle feed and he was the sweetest cat. He grew up to become the biggest, fluffiest, cutest and sweetest orange cat. He and his sidekick Grasa are now reunited in kitty heaven. We miss them every day when we go into our barn and don’t see them. But rest my sweet sweet Gulli. We will miss you so.

Today was both an amazingly joyful day celebrating life - and a bittersweet day - celebrating life as well. Today we celebrated the two birthday girls: Ellie (who turned 4!!!!) and Amma Gu-gu in Iceland. Lots of birthday celebrations today and both birthday girls had a great day. But today was bittersweet for us here at Thor too because our beloved Grasa left us this morning and went up to that big place in the sky. Grasa, we will miss you so much - you were the queen of the barn and our constant companion. You were one hell of a cat! So today we celebrate life! Love. Live. Tolt. Meow.

You will be sorely missed by the entire Thor family. From the time you were a spunky kitten running around our barn when it was first built, a great mouser, our constant companion, the barn boss, the best buttered-toast eater, and the sweetest most vocal kitty. You've gone for the big rest. We will miss you. Until we see you again...

Foreign dignities visiting Iceland are sometimes treated with a horse show, especially if the visitors are known to be keen horse enthusiasts. Such demonstrations are not only to entertain the guests but also to make the Icelandic horse known to the media crowd that is covering the state visit. When in October 1986 a summit between the U.S. president Ronald Reagan and the Soviet premier Mikhail Gorbachev was held in Reykjavík it was seen as an golden opportunity to demonstrate the Icelandic horse to the international press that had rushed off to Iceland for the occasion. Many of Iceland’s best horses and riders took part in the show and the initiative got quite some coverage around the globe. On the picture below the famous Hrímnir frá Hrafnagili and Sólveig Einarsdóttir are leading the parade, followed by Sigurbjörn Bárðarson and Kristján Kristjánsson. Picture by Valdimar Kristinsson.
