Laurel is available at Citrus County Animal Services!

UPDATE: ON A SLUMBER PARTY!
With her sweet personality and beauty we have been trying to figure out why Laurel hasnโ€™t been adopted yet. Turns out, adopters are not interested once they see that she has larger teats than the other dogs. But those teats tell her story. The story that she was found roaming stray but still keeping her 5 puppies safe. She was the best mom that raised her fluffy babies perfectly, and now they have all been adopted while she is still at the shelter waiting for her forever. Will her teats shrink over time? Probably. But that wonโ€™t change her story. This mama deserves a loving home to care for her just like she cared for her babies. She is a loving girl who is ready to be pampered as someoneโ€™s baby. This gentle 98 pound beauty will be a cherished companion. With her calm and caring nature, Laurel will bring warmth and love to your life. She is spayed, micro chipped, heartworm tested, and vaccinated. Come meet this wonderful girl at Citrus County Animal Services, 4030 S. Airport Rd., Inverness, FL and let Laurel show you what a truly loyal friend she can be! ID number 57171248

URGENT: Edith Needs a Home ASAP! ๐Ÿšจ

Edithโ€™s time is running outโ€”due to overcrowding and her stress level in the kennel, sheโ€™s in danger of being euthanized. This lovely girl came to our shelter alongside her buddy Mulligan from the Croom Wildlife Management Area, and while theyโ€™re both such sweet souls, shelter life is especially hard on Edith.

Edith is happiest when sheโ€™s getting pets and treats and loves โ€œtalkingโ€ to share her day with you. The shelter environment is really stressful for her, and she needs a home where she can relax, preferably with a nice backyard to roam and explore.

Even if you canโ€™t adopt, please share this postโ€”Edith deserves the chance to be happy, free, and loved.

Unknown respiratory illness affecting dogs at Hernando County Animsl Services

โ€ผ Hernando County Animal Services (HCAS) has seen an increase in an upper respiratory illness within the shelter dog population. ๐Ÿ•โ€๐Ÿฆบ๐Ÿฉ๐Ÿ• Some of the dogs have become ill, requiring medical treatment. At this time, testing has not identified a pathogen that would explain the illness experienced by some of the dogs. In the meantime, numerous other samples have been collected and sent out for laboratory testing. HCAS is currently consulting with an infectious disease expert from the University of Florida to ensure best practices are being followed.

Shelter dog operations are suspended immediately in an effort to treat any exposed animals while trying to identify and eliminate the pathogen. Suspended operations include: adoptions, rescue pulls, and meet and greets. HCAS will update the public as more information becomes available. Emergency dog intakes will be sent to a local boarding facility. HCAS appreciates everyoneโ€™s patience as staff works to address the needs of the shelter animals.
