This is a good opportunity for those needing their horses done sooner than I’d be able to come out to your place. Please pm or text 903-563-4992 if you like to reserve your spot!

I’ve had many clients call, text, message, to see how we are doing and I can’t thank you enough. We are both doing well and very much enjoying our time as a new family of 3!

Some of you already know, but for those that don’t, we are expecting a little boy due February 2nd! We are very excited about our growing family and cannot wait to see what the future holds.
With that being said, my schedule will be changing here pretty soon. Starting October 15th I will no longer be taking new clients until after maternity leave in 2023. This will ensure I can take care of my current clients and their equine partners. If you are a current client and your horses are due for annual or biannual floats during the months of January, February, or March please get in touch with me at your earliest convenience so we can get a game plan together.
I feel so blessed to have such wonderful clients that have been so encouraging and understanding as we navigate this exciting time in our lives.

Now that we are back I thought I’d share a few pictures. We took off for a few days to have girls trip. Some of you may recognize one or both of these lovely ladies with me. Chances are if I’ve been to your place in the last 6 months, one of them have been with me. I can’t express how grateful I am to have them working with me. They make my life so much easier and there’s never a dull moment. I’m so blessed to have these two not only as my helpers but also my friends❤️ Thank you Christa and Savannah! Y’all are the best!

I had a client’s daughter wanting to cover equine dentistry for her career day so she sent me a few questions. I thought it was pretty neat!

Equine dentist

Do you like your job?
I absolutely love my job❤️

What is your favorite part of your job?
I get to meet a lot of great people and build relationships. I also get help horses be able to live and eat comfortably, and perform to their full potential. I really wanted a job where I could help horses and people. Being an equine dentist allows me to do both of those things. Also, I get to help educate others about how their horse’s teeth work and why it’s so important to get their teeth done annually.

What procedures do you do the most?
A routine float is removing sharp enamel points and balancing to the mouth. That includes taking down malocclusions such as, waves, ramps, hooks, and protruding molars and premolars. I also do extractions pretty routinely. Those include wolf teeth, caps(baby teeth), molars and premolars.

What is the most challenging part of your job?
Telling people no. I can’t always get to every person’s horse. I have to be smart because it is a business and for it to continue, it has to be profitable.

Do you need to have insurance to do your job? You don’t have to carry insurance, but it is definitely recommended.

Is continuing education required?
Yes. In the state of Texas an equine dentist has to be certified through the IAED or EDPA, and licensed through the Texas Veterinary Board. In order to keep a current valid license, I have to complete 6 hours of CE annually.

What expenses do you have as a small business owner?
Employees
Equipment
Equipment repairs
Gas
Food
Medicine
My vehicle (because I’m mobile)
Insurance
Annual fees for licensing and certification
Continuing education
Taxes

This monster was our trophy of the day yesterday! This is a number 410 tooth that proved to be very challenging to extract. We are thankful that the mare this tooth came from was very sweet and cooperative.

This was our first session with this 20 year old mare. She had a massive caudal hook protruding into the upper gums causing her a great deal of pain and discomfort. She also had a significant wave in the lower arcades of teeth along with sharp points. We were able to get her feeling much better and back on the right track to having normal/functional teeth. Here’s before and after.
