GREAT NEWS – SENATE HEARING GRANTED

The Office of Animal Protection bill (SF 1163) has been granted a hearing in the Senate Judiciary and Public Safety Committee on Friday, March 21st.

Hearings begin at 9:00 am. We believe the bill will be heard in the afternoon, anytime between 1:00 pm and early evening.

Eggs prices WILL come down... if you get baby Chicks- yes they are cute.- now,- BUT - they will NOT give you any eggs until 6-8 months ..depends on the breed..( now not so cute) they only lay good for 2 yrs, then egg production goes way down... now you HAVE chickens but not many eggs... what are you going to do now? is it WORTH IT?? i have had chickens for 30 yrs... i have 28 now... some are older- i only get on average- 14 eggs a day... but they all still need feed, 17 are my older friends with an egg here and there... when chickens molt- they do not lay- BUT still eat... if you care for the chickens right. - good hen house, feed, chicken yard, keep it clean, it is a LOT of work! be sure your set up is VARMENT proof- for weasels, skunks, raccoons, dogs, birds of prey, what are you going to do with the "left-overs" aka droppings? do NOT put it in the garbage!! You have to keep the chicks under a heat lamp until they feather out... do you know when that is? Have you looked into ALL that is needed having chickens.... i sure hope there are MANY chicken rescues out there... to take all the chickens people are getting now... and realize the work does NOT equal just going to the store and buying them...... PLEASE PLEASE REALLY REALLY THINK ... BEFORE you get chicks.... THANK YOU :)

** In Memoriam: Sweet Milo was found deceased today. Please keep his family in your thoughts.

Milo is a young male Golden Doodle who recently escaped his fenced yard in Apple Valley, MN. He is likely running scared and possibly hiding. Please quietly check your properties, under decks, stairs, sheds, etc-anywhere a scared pup may hide. If you have security or trail cameras, please check the footage, lost dogs often travel at night when they feel safer. If you see Milo-PLEASE do not shout out, follow, or chase him. This could put him in a dangerous situation. Just call or text with sighting details asap. Please share to expand awareness. Thank you!!

It’s happening!

We just got our first baby raccoons of the season, and only the day after we got our first 4 infant squirrels too! These little ones are only a day or two old, and will have much better chances of success if they grow up with mom. Thankfully the client who found them is going to monitor the little ones at the spot they were found this evening and attempt to reunite them.

This year, several hundred young raccoons will be carried through our doors that cannot be reunited with their mothers for a variety of reasons. To take care of them we have the knowledge, dedication, and compassion covered, but there are aspects of raccoon raising that are impossible for us to cover without your help.

Keep a close eye on your inbox this Thursday when we will launch an initiative to replace old and worn-out wooden raccoon caging. We want to keep our patients safe, and this will be your chance to make a lasting impact on our nursery for years to come. Also, we plan on sharing a ton of cute and educational raccoon content this weekend, so stay tuned and share our posts to help spread the word!

Great news!

The Minnesota Office of Animal Protection (OAP) bill (S.F. 1163) was re-introduced in the Senate this week. We are currently waiting for the bill to be re-introduced in the House. Minnesota's 2025-2026 legislative session has had many twists and turns, but we have been busy at the Capitol lobbying legislators to keep things moving forward. This is exciting progress!
